    It is amazing to me that he is getting a ton of grief on this when Bryce Harper is on the team. Do people even look at at statistics? Is he? He’s 0.2 WAR behind Albies with 76 less plate appearances. And he can play SS and 3B. Hardly an outrageous decision by the fans.

    It's an extremely cautious timeline, which I am fine with, but this injury shouldn't be a 2 month ordeal like this. They don't really need to push him though and this should keep him fresh for October. We shouldn’t be surprised. They are prolonging the inevitable, he’s gonna go under the knife again - if not now, then in the off season. Say hello to 2020. Yeah, just pump him full of cortisone come playoff time and hope for the best.

    What...are you one of those weird people that has something against Strop? I love Strop’s consistency and what he brings to the team. But I’m somewhat concerned about the declining velocity and K rate. He’s pretty similar to Cishek though.

    Get Hand and Trienan. I want a super bullpen for the playoffs. Have the starters get us through 4 innings and hand it over to Cishek, Edwards, Hand, Trienan and Morrow.

    The 7-figure bonus overslots under this regime were Underwood in the 2nd round in 2012; Sands (4th), Steele (5th) and Cease (6th) in 2014; Hudson (3rd) and Wilson (4th) in 2015; and Estrada (6th) in 2017. Let's not mention the other ones that didn't work out... Yeah, I know -- Underwood is still a prospect and has a chance to reach the majors. I'm not high on the other guys on that list. Eh, Underwood should reach the majors and Cease was a hit. Even if Hudson and Estrada are busts, you have to think 2 out of 7 is a pretty good hit rate for prep prospects.

    I don't think they're looking for the "next" anything. They have a certain type of player-strong contact skills/ hard worker/up the middle potential/ previous wood bat success if applicable-and that profile has landed them Ellsbury, Pedroia, Betts, Schwarber, Almora, etc.

    Since 2015, Russell is 12th among SS in WAR. Machado appears to be well on his way to another 6 WAR season this year. The unique thing about the Cubs is that they also have the 13th ranked SS in Baez. So even if Machado doesn't resign, you've got a replacement in Baez and the ability to insert another starting caliber MIF in Happ. However, given the Cubs' recruiting abilities, I think the ability to show Machado the organization over half a season holds some real value in the ability to resign him as a free agent. So the front office really has to evaluate whether Addison Russell is worth a 3 WAR upgrade at SS this season + an enhanced ability to sign Machado in the offseason. I don't think that's worth dismissing outright.

    Here's my question to you. Would you draft Nelson if he could have the same trajectory as David DeCastro, but at LG? 2 1st team All Pro, 1 2nd team, and 3 straight Pro Bowls in his first 6 years. I think a lot of people are expecting that he will be as good as DeCastro, if not better. We'll see if that's true or not in a couple years. I believe he will be so I think he's worth picking in the top 10. I think he’ll step in and immediately be a top 5 guard in the NFL. As a Notre Dame fan, I think he was much, much better than Zack Martin in college, and Martin has been excellent for the Cowboys. And I’m not trying to be bias as an ND fan. FWIW, I don’t think McGlinchy will be that good in the NFL.

    -Heyward is benched by June and both Almora and Happ gets over 500 plate appearances -Alzolay makes at least one start for the team and is a Top 50 prospect by the end of the season -Javy hits 35 homeruns and is an All Star starter -Edwards leads the team in saves -Hendricks leads the team in IP

    I'd guess we draft an O-lineman with one of our top two picks. It's probably something like 50/50 (maybe higher?) that Nelson is there at 8. There's also a bunch of other guys that currently are slated for the end of the 1st round, and one or two of them are bound to slide to our 2nd round pick. Nelson is my top choice. If he's not around, I'd go for Edmunds or another defensive player and wait for an O-lineman later in the draft. As an ND fan, I was never that impressed with McGlinchey.

    I'd think it's a lock a pitcher is happening, I just wonder of what caliber. Santana for Salazar or Tehran I bet Salazar would make a lot of sense for both sides.

    Saw that too. It's funny that they think Theo doesn't plan ahead for both. Luckily, Stearns is 30 steps ahead.

    I know he's a guard, but I'd love to trade down and get Quentin Nelson. He's going to be an All-Pro the minute he steps on the field.

    As an ND fan, I think Hiestand was far away the best coach on that staff. Olin Kreutz was on the Score last week and said Hiestand was the best OL coach he's ever had. I think it's a great hire.

    Why would they have to be traded? Almora continues to crush lefties and Happ takes on the Zobrist role.
