  1. I really don't have any complaints about the guys left(Suppan, Marquis, Batista). None of them are lights out but they are all solid low rotation guys. The thing I like most is that they are all durable which is something that I think has been important all offseason. Durable guys who can be counted on are something we haven't seen to often besides Z-man. I would still prefer Suppan or Lieber but Marquis and Batista have had good years recently and would make solid and durable starters.
  2. Thats a lot of money for a guy who just had TMJ and was bad last year when he came back. Remember when everyone was complaining about Howry and Eyre getting $4mil. Oh, how the times have changed
  3. I would think the Phils would be more willing to trade Burrell. What if Hendry packaged a deal of Jones, Eyre, Marmol for Lieber, Burrell. Cubs take all of Burrell's money. The Phils would love to trade Burrell, but he's already said he'll only approve a trade to the Yankees, the Red Sox, or a west coast team. That would put Soriano in CF which is where he is most valuable anyways. However, that brings us to our being to right handed again. I think Lieber could be possible, but I don't see Burrell being included in any deal.
  4. Lieber likely will be traded: Lieber, entering the final year of his contract, will earn $7.5 million next season, making him an attractive trade candidate. The Phillies likely will seek bullpen help in return, and the Astros are one team that could be a match.-Rosenthal Would they take on of our arms not named Wuertz or Howry? Maybe Ohman we don't need 3 lefties. He has been OK in that bandbox in Philly. He has been durable and only walked 24 guys last year. That is amazing. We could use a guy who won't walk a lot of batters
  5. So does that mean their offer to Batista is now off the table?
  6. They have a new GM now and I believe you are thinking of the old regime down there. The new group is a little more willing to work out deals.
  7. I think those talks are dead. I now look for us to go after Suppan and Marquis.
  8. Apparently they were talking with the Braves about a Baldelli for Chuck James swap. If that is the case I am sure they would ask for Hill therefore making the chances of Baldelli coming 0%.
  9. Extend Zambrano Touche my friend Touche. That would be the best money spent all offseason
  10. Now that the meetings are over and Meche has gone to the Royals it is time for Jim's other plans. We still have a spot in our rotation that is unsettled. Here are the likely options: Fill it in house- with Marshall, Guzman, Marmol, Mateo, Miller, and Prior all in house someone may be able to step up and pitch well at the back of the rotation. I don't like this idea as much because Hill is still kind of an unknown and having 3 unknown spots is a little to much. Sign Zito- I don't think this option will happen, but he is still out there and the CUbs seem willing to spend plenty of money right now. Sign another 2nd-tier guy- There is still Suppan, Mulder, Weaver, Marquis, Batista put there. I think that the best option would be Suppan who has been above average and durable the past few years. Batista and Marquis may come cheaper, but they both have there flaws. Trade- Westbrook and Jennings don't appear to be happening. Penny and Hendrickson from the Dodgers could be out there. Depending on the price I would like a move to get Penny. Lieber and Hudson are said to be on the block and both would make good mid-rotation starters. All of that being said I want trade for Hudson, if that can't be worked out sign Suppan. Hendry will most likely sign Marquis or Batista I believe. What do you guys see from here on out? Who would you want to get?
  11. I'll be shocked if Soriano isn't at least .340 next year. Shocked? Are you kidding me? Shocked? You'd be shocked if he had an OBP that wasn't higher than his OBP in every season but 2006? I'm shocked any reasonable person would think this way. There's no way a .335 OBP can be a surprise to anybody next season. Soriano is going to draw his share of IBB next season. Izturis/DeRosa aren't exactly threats. Soriano's OBP will be fine. I'm not sure we'll see many IBB from someone at the leadoff spot with Lee and A-ram behind him
  12. What would be the question? I don't think it's crazy to predict an OBP over .340, I just think it's darn right silly to say you'd be shocked if he didn't surpass .340. Don't forget about Gerald Perry and his new philosophy guys
  13. I don't get why the Cubs would want him. Piniella has said all offseason that he hates when his pitchers walk people. Marquis gives up a buttload of walks. Last year he almost walked as many as he K'd. Give me Suppan or Batista please
  14. I would much rather have Suppan or even Batista than Marquis. I don't see deals for Lieber or Penny going down either. Teams want way to much for SP right now.
  15. Maybe this opens the door to Mr. Consistent, Jeff Suppan
  16. ESPN updated its article, the deal is 4/40 not 4/44
  17. They just said it on WGN Sportscentral. They think it is exhaustion as well
  18. Bye-Bye Freddy have fun with C-Patt
  19. Hi Ned, since you like former Cubs so much, We'll give you Jones and some prospects for Penny Think Jones+Marshall would get it done? Probably not but its wishful thinking
  20. Hi Ned, since you like former Cubs so much, We'll give you Jones and some prospects for Penny
  21. According to Jerry Crasnick: Now that the Dodgers have added starters Randy Wolf and Jason Schmidt, they have enough depth in the rotation to trade a starter for a bat. Two baseball people said the Dodgers are shopping right-hander Brad Penny.
  22. I thought all along he would be coming. It seems like Lou and Hendry went after him early, and Lou made a few phone calls to his old buddy.
  23. Suppan over Lilly. Suppan was very, very, good over the second half last year.
  24. After that deal I think maybe Marshall or Blanco would do the trick
  25. Update at 4:00 ESPN.com's Jayson Stark is hearing that Gil Meche is leaning toward signing with the Blue Jays. Meche to the Blue Jays and Ted Lilly to the Cubs still look like good bets. The Cubs and Royals are the other two finalists for Meche. His decision could come on Wednesday night.
