  1. Is it really? I tend to agree with the World Anti-Doping Agency on this point that believing you are taking something that will enhance your performance is "clearly contradictory to the spirit of sport" which would make it cheating. It might be that they aren't actually helping themselves but by doing something they believe will give them an (unfair) advantage they tainting the sport.
  2. This report was the featured story on slate.com today. I found it interesting.
  3. Don't expect one. I've learned from other experiences, that the paper does as it pleases and doesn't think it must answer to anyone. I think that is a result of being the only newspaper in town. On all fronts, that paper has an agenda. The only people they answer to are the big bosses at Gannet. Well, if you want to track down a way to complain to Gannett, count me in. Also, there is about a .002% chance you could report the incident to media-watchdog Matt Drudge and he'd run it. That would surely draw the ire of their bosses at Gannett. The only way Gannett Corporate would care is if you could get national attention, just calling them won't do a thing. The only thing that can get their attention is if you can hurt their bottom line. You could always call the publisher of the paper that could cause some headaches for the people in the sports department, and its my belief that most sports guys could stand to be taken down a peg or two.
  4. How many years has it been since Hill was an everyday shortstop?
  5. It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm just out driving for myself I'm usually 5-15 over. If I'm going to an assignment its the same unless its spot news and them I'm driving like a bat out of hell. If I'm feature hunting I'm usually going under the speed limit so I can see what's going on in the neighborhoods and I'm usually waiting for the people to call the police to report a suspicious vehicle with a man in side of with cameras that have really long lenses.
  6. This has always been one of my favorite Farnsworth memories. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/LAN/LAN199908290.shtml
  7. Even when your boss is the same way?
  8. I agree. either he sucks at it, or the camera really sucks... btw... I HATE TROLLS! :x It was both.
  9. He was actually a Cub twice, the end of 2003 and briefly last year. la-la-la-la I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!
  10. I'd rather keep thinking that Tony Womack was never a Cub, thank you.
  11. If he had waited a week, he would have received the full $5M. Instead, he gets nothing. Classy move by Foulke. How many years do you need to get the full pension and it's perks? I believe it kicks in at ten years.
  12. Tell us how you really feel, Rotoworld... Rotoworld: Attention Nationals fans: You suck I think they already knew it. And why did I think Cleveland signed Belliard earlier in the off season?
  13. I think things are healing. He did afterall, do the convention last month. I think Grace's beef was more with MacPhail than anyone. Seeing as how it was Andy who was the GM when Grace left.
  14. He didn't say that someone should be put on the roster only as an emergency catcher-he just asked if anybody currently on the roster could serve as an emergency catcher. While it may not come up during the season, it's still a good thing to know. It may not come up but could easily happen. Pinch hitter for the starter then the back up gets hurt. Presto you need a 3rd catcher. Like I said earlier, when is Blanco going to be pinch hitting while there are still players on the bench? He's the worst bat on the bench. I think he's talk about a situation where Blanco is starting, is pinch-hit for then Barrett is injured. For the record my money is on either Ward or Theriot being the number three catcher.
  15. He just waited for the hitter to doze off before he delivered the pitch.
  16. Did Lynch ever go to arbitration with a player? I was thinking that MacPhail had never gone to arbitration as a GM or President (which would go back to his days with the Twins I believe).
  17. Doesn't he already have ten years of service time? That would give him the ol' golden parachute, right?
  18. I don't understand what that means. It looks like one paragraph contradicts the other? How do they contradict one another? The first paragraph says he wants to "acquire a share of the company." The second says he "has no plans to acquire [the company] outright." Seems pretty straight forward to me. He wants to become a partner in the Tribune Company but not own it all by himself.
  19. As well as Newsday and the Baltimore Sun. I think one interesting thing will be what happens to the NY Post. Murdock's long coveted Newsday and federal rules prohibits him from owning both. The question becomes who buys the Post, I don't know if Gannett and McClatchy (the two most likely newspaper companies to buy a major market paper) or any other buyer is willing to jump into the New York media bloodbath, I mean market.
  20. UK and Australian media outlets (including the Financial Times) are reporting that News Corp. is joining with the Chandler family in a $7.6 billion dollar bid for the Tribune Company.
  21. ESPN ranked their top five yesterday.
  22. If the Cubs are reviewing his medical records it could take awhile.
