  2. You can't lock up the young guys, unless they want to be locked up. Honestly, I think they've each looked at Rizzo's deal and decided to go year to year, plus most use Boras anyway..... If you get Gray, you may be giving up Monty as part of it. You're going to spend some money on Arb raises, some on 3-4 pen arms, a 5th SP that could be expensive, a depth SP too, and I can definitely see us looking at Lorenzo Cain in the off season too.... Rotation- Lester, Quintana, Hendricks, Gray, 5th, 6th Pen- Edwards, Strop, Grimm, ??????? C Contreras, 1B Rizzo 2B Zobrist, Baez SS Russell 3B Bryant LF Schwarber CF Cain, Happ RF Heyward I'm saying this, based on Gray costing Almora, Monty, and guys from the minors..... There's plenty of AB's to satisfy Javy and Happ not being listed as starters. I figure they'll go after Cain though, good defensively, solid offensively, veteran presence, etc..... Guesses on bigger FA acquisitions......Jake McGee, Tyler Chatwood, Cain, Bryan Shaw No clue where that puts us financially, I'll look later....But, assuming we stay under the LT this year, I figure we'll go over next year.
  3. Is Sandoval the worst contract ever signed? He got 5/95 and put up a total of -2.6 WAR for his time as a Red Sox.(-2.0,-0.2, -0.4)
  4. Kaplan, long known idiot, wrong again.
  5. Hatch finishes 4 6 3 3 2 6, on 84 pitches. Need him to get back to being economical.
  6. Its a numbers game. Its not an absolute necessity that kids only spend a season in the DSL. Nunez is only back there because he can get a full seasons worth of AB's there, and couldn't, if he had moved over to the US..... Perez is raw, catchers move and develop slower in many cases.....Kelli was raw too. Just glad to see them play well. They'll get another look in Arizona after the season. I'd say that MOST true prospects only spend a year there. But, sometimes guys develop later. Sometimes there's a better shot at PT down there. I just wish there were scouting reports that'd pop up during the season from down there on occasion.
  7. I love seeing we're still after Gray, and its Beane, so who knows what he's looking for? My complete guess is we're sniffing here, but unless we're able to get him for spare parts, our goal is to drive up prices for others..... Anyone in the minors is available, plus Monty, Almora, Caratini, and Butler..... Don't think we'd include Schwarber, Happ, Javy, or Russell here. Don't know that we'd need to either, with Billy.... Monty, Almora, and Caratini seems like a package he could actually bite on. But, Candelario, Zagunis, Alzolay, Hatch, kids like Albertos, Ademan, Amaya..... Yeah, Theo's getting Gray too.
  8. The system seems very thin. I'm not concerned at all. We've got ML depth to trade from, if we feel the need to make ANOTHER blockbuster. We've got average to above average depth in the system currently. We also have a fair amount of high upside, breakout types. As much as I love prospects, I don't give a horsefeathers if the system is outside the top 25. We can still make a blockbuster. And we've got plenty of stuff to get us smaller additions too. Still kind of in shock we pulled this off. Sets us up soooooo horsefeathering good for a few years.
  9. I really can't see how anyone doesn't love this. Sets us up so well heading into the offseason. My guess is we'll probably buy a high end guy, instead of trading for another one. The deadline probably turns into us looking for a C, maybe a CF, maybe a LHRP. The true question I've got, is who falls out of the rotation? You've got Lester, Quintana, Arrieta, Hendricks.....Butler falls out. But, its going to be fucked up if Lackey is the 5th and not Montgomery...... Just keep Lackey on the DL for a while. Or use a 6 man, because I doubt they'll take him out of the rotation.
  10. Mekkes goes 2 1 0 0 2 5.....
  11. Rucker finishes 7 1 0 0 1 7. So glad to see him bounce back with a great start.
  12. Not that you can take anything from it, but Theo called it a "procedural" issue. Considering the amount they gave him, my guess is whatever it was, it wasn't too significant. I think they had the ability to sign Velázquez and Estrada, without inking him.(could be wrong) And if that's the case, my guess is they'd have definitely passed on Lange, if it was important. May have anyway.
  13. I was 100% against this, now I'm not so sure.....5 and a half back, at Baltimore for 3, at Atlanta for 3, and 3 at home versus the Cards, coming out of the break. With the Brewers having 3 at home versus Philly, 4 at Pitt, and 3 at Philly...... It gets tougher for them after that, but still..... I want Davis here next year, but I'm kind of open to pulling what the Yankees did last year with Chapman....
  14. MEKKES WATCH..... 2 0 0 0 0 4. I deduct an unknown amount of points for not K'ing the other two helpless batsmen.
  15. Hatch with a solid start, 5 6 1 1 1 5, on 85 pitches.
  16. I just don't want Otani coming over this year. If he does, I can't see him taking 300k from us(or the Dodgers) and bypass the close to 10 mill the Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, or whoever can offer him now.
  17. It'll be interesting to see how Theo operates closer towards the end of his deal.....It ends at the same time as KB, Rizzo, Russell, Javy, and Schwarber.... He very well could just start going for mega talents, missing picks, and leaving when these guys are all FA with him....Not sure he'd do it, since Jed probably takes his role at that point....But, who knows? Maybe Jed bolts too.
  18. I remember seeing quotes from Madison or McLeod mentioning they expected Paredes to struggle early on, due to the cold....In April, he went 18-81(.222) and since is 50-180(.278) May be nothing, may be worth noting. At any rate, he's definitely hitting his stride, as an 18 year old in A Ball.
  19. What's sad is I was just happy he didn't walk anyone. Guess I prefer walks to the "meatball down the middle" approach that he took today evidently.
  20. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mlb-draft-signing-deadline-looms-but-few-surprises-expected/#SlgDpDx4o7OQ6PiO.97 Inside here, it says Tampa wants their draft pick, based on how Rasmussen fulfilled his MRI stuff for the draft....He MAY be granted FA, but will go back to school otherwise.....
  21. Very nice class. But yeah, we need to add one of those two. Hell, both of them lol.
  22. Yeah, I think BA got to the bottom of things before Calli's could...... The only reason I hold out ANY hope on Meredith, is he said if they met his money at the last minutes he'd sign.
