  1. As for the Cubs draft, it'll be interesting to see if anything changed today. If Lange was set for slot, the savings would then have allowed the Cubs to offer slightly over 400K to a guy today.... I'd be thrilled to get Meredith, although he had wanted 700k, I think. Doubt Ruth would take that either. But, Karp and/or Vines seem like solid possibilities, if we did find our way into some extra cash today.
  2. Yeah. I'll play devils advocate though. I'd say there IS a "chance" that these guys are allowed to sign, unrestricted by the draft. Have no idea what MRI Program consists of. If for no other reason, the player is screwed by teams having all their money tied up already....Giving them that "opportunity" isn't much of one..... So, I'll hold out a slim bit of hope they're true FA.... On Conlon, it sounds moot, as he seems headed to A&M.... Devils advocate on that: Why wouldn't certain players then game the system and get numerous teams to bid them up to a 7- or 8-figure bonus? Yeah, I agree, that this can be a very bad look.....Conlon, likely agreed to sign for a mill or so, fails his physical, hits the open market, and triples his ask....
  3. That's why I'm torn on what it truly means too. But what else can he be called? He's not a UDFA, because he was obviously drafted.....I can't remember the last time I've heard of a Restricted Free Agent in MLB..... That's why I'm still kind of thinking it means just as it says.....Unrestricted. If it were tied to draft bonuses, he'd be Restricted....

  5. Question - They can only go to $125K without potential penalty though, right? Edit- Raisin's reply seems much more palatable, than what I originally had here.
  6. https://twitter.com/hudsonbelinsky/status/883435901862412288 Between him and Rasmussen, the Cubs need to get one of them.
  7. If Velázquez is signing for slot, it'd actually still have given us a bit to play with.....We could conceivably offer a guy a bit over 450k, after saving a decent amount on Lange.
  8. Logically, if you're willing to sign for a mill, it'd be really hard to walk over 100k.
  9. I hope it doesn't kill off Velázquez and Estrada as well. That's a big chunk of draft talent.
  10. Well, me too. But, until we know the particulars, I'll stay positive and think its possible to get both out of this.
  11. Jeez, you called it. Granted, it could actually work out and us add an extra player, because of it. (Glass half full obviously)
  12. I'd think there's just going to be one announcement for the rest of the class. I think we would have heard something, if anything was actually wrong.
  13. I don't THINK Karp will sign. But, he'll be a 4th year Junior after next year. And still is far from guaranteed he's even got a rotation spot next year. To me, he's a prime candidate to get, if there's ANY money left from Lange/Velázquez/Estrada.....
  14. Yeah, I'd easily give up Eloy, Cease, plus one or two of the Candelario/Caratini/Zagunis bunch for Stroman.
  15. Unfortunately, I think his stuff backed up quite a bit, once he got moved to the rotation. Might as well keep him in the rotation, but I doubt it sticks.
  16. I'm not completely sure of the rule, but for some reason, I think they've got to offer him 30% of slot, in order to recoup the pick. My complete guess is they think that medicals change that, and don't want to offer him even that, thinking he'd accept.
  17. Let's play IS HE HURT OR IS THERE A TRADE
  18. Nobody knows anything about de la Cruz. He was warming up for his last start(probably May 30ish or so) and they pulled him. No info at all. Its frustrating we can't find anything out on injuries. Alec Mills came back from his foot/ankle injury, pitched a couple innings, and has been missing a month or so. We had no idea why DJ Wilson went on the DL. Same with Sepulveda. Wish we could find these things out.
  19. Hopefully, he's better than Hedges has been.
  20. Damn, he may not be going there. They're "regrouping" supposedly.
  21. They've got Estrada as a rental and Happ with just a year left, I think if you really want Stroman, its going to cost Eloy, one of Schwarber, Happ, or Javy, plus more. I don't think they're in need of moving him.
