  1. AZPfil guessed Shoulders would be at Boise and Vogelbach in Arizona. Disappointing for Vogelbach, but he's certainly struggled in EXST. He said he thought Arias would be a "bubble guy". Probably an acclimation thing, because he's been phenomenal in EXST.
  2. Szczur was put on the DL, I think it's a sore knee? Daytona is in another damn delay, messing up Whitenack's start. 2ip 3h 1r 1er 0w 1k.
  3. I read somewhere Alford's going to get around double slot. 800ish or so. But Goldsteon says he won't get but 60-70 games a year in, unless he chooses baseball completely, so it could wind up being a big waste, I guess.
  4. http://tagsgf.com/2012/06/08/podcast-msu%E2%80%99s-pierce-johnson-talks-mlb-draft/ Link to an interview with Pierce Johnson, after the draft. Sounds like an easier sign.
  5. Prieto signs for "projected" 250,000. http://www.newssun.com/sports/FRI-6-8-12-Corbin Hoffner signs as well. Bonus not listed. Tim, my fault on littering this thread for the last page or two, so figured I'd post something relevant for a change of pace. :D
  6. Yeah, LaHair isn't a 22 year old still learning to hit. He's close to 30, most likely is what he is, at this point. And since he mashes righties, that's quite all right.
  7. Soriano has put up 1.4 fWAR so far this season.
  8. I have noticed that PriortoTheo.......has been missing from here as of late. Not sure whether he got some time off or what, but he does have like 800 posts in a week over at PSD. I'm putting my official guess down as this being him.
  9. Toonster, just curious, why do you like Hernandez that much more than Torreyes? Same age. Torreyes certainly played well in A ball last year and even though he's struggled mightily in Daytona, his K rate hasn't changed at all. Lending hope he' s possibly been unlucky. Is it just the position thing? Body type? I'm sure both play a part here, but I wouldn't think that's it either. Especially since Torreyes can conceivably put up solid offensive numbers at a position you usually don't get it from either.
  10. I'm beyond confused. Is this Bruce?
  11. I think a lot depends on who's analysis you look at, when it comes to Almora. McDaniel thinks he can be Beltran and is the best player in the class when all is said and done. I asked Chris Crawford if a line of 300/375/475 with 20/20 was too unrealistic for his prime years and he told me no. I've heard 70 hit tool thrown out there for him from a few guys. I like Hernandez a bunch myself and have had him in my top 10. But even though he came on late, his early season struggles do resignate with me somewhat. Let's see how Almora does, assuming he signs obviously, but I don't see Marco winding up in his area of prospectdom, to be honest.
  12. I know he started year off hot. I thought he came back much earlier than that. Oh well, the Brett comp is a good one either way.
  13. Granted, I went too far to mention the Rangers actually doing the forging. But it's definitely likely they did some shady things here, even if it can't be proven. And hell, for all we know, it still will be proven. It's the last time before the new rules kick in and a team may have went much further than usual, to try and get an advantage. I just don't see how it's not conceivable to think the same thing can happen with the draft.
  14. I've been to the Derby a few times. It's a great time anyway.
  15. It's still quite a bit different than what MLB has going on. Players ARE drafted in accordance to talent here, unlike baseball. That's the main point.
  16. Bradley went to South Carolina. Was considered a top 10ish type prospect, started his junior season off very well, broke his wrist, came back and struggled. Status dropped and he wound up going in the supplemental round. Excellent defensive CFer, good discipline, should hit for average, with decent(15ish HR potential) pop and decent speed. Great makeup guy, team leader type. Top 50? Possible, but he probably needs to be promoted to AA and play well there as well to jump THAT high. But he's an excellent prospect. Not a ton of ceiling, but a very high floor.
  17. Yeah, that's pretty scary and I have no clue why Paver would lead him down that path. Something else worth mentioning though, is Armando Rivero and Omar Luis also became eligible to sign, the same time as Soler did. Rivero is a 23 year old righty, who throws up to 98 and profiles as a potential closer. Luis is a 19 year old stocky lefty that can hit 93 and has back end of the rotation possibilities. My guess is neither gets Concepcion money, but both get multi million dollar deals.
  18. Am I? I'm pretty sure there is a slot number that can't be exceeded, right? I guess teams can fall under it, but tge main point is players get drafted in accordance with their talent level(short of getting in trouble beforehand) because they're firmly IN the draft, without other true options.
  19. I'm guessing the new Dominican facility is included this year. That's 10-12 mill anyway. Even then, it's still short.
  20. I agree with that. But with things changing, all it'd take is one.....
  21. Truffle, I certainly hope you're right and definitely respect your position on this. I guess what's got me thinking the worst has to do with the whole IFA game. Who knows what Texas may have done in the Jairi Beras situation, for instance? They could have forged a birth certificate possibly, hid him from every other team, acted honestly and the kid did it all, or who knows? But it's fishy. If things get crazy with IFA's, I guess I automatically think it could get bad with the draft as well.
  22. To me, the difference is there's been a cap in place for a pretty long time. Caveat being, I know absolutely nothing about hockey at all, so I can't speak for them. Since there's never been a cap in baseball, on any real level(luxury tax is the closest thing) I can see a much different reaction to playing under completely new rules.
  23. Hopefully, we have Soler on our payroll. If so, we'll likely be around 60 mill, counting Alf, DeJesus, Stewart, Castro, Shark, Marmol, Russell, Soler, Concepcion, and the minimum salary guys. Garza could take up to 15 or so, if we extend him. Hell, maybe they pay him more in the 1st few years, to give us more flexibility later on. Maholm has a pretty team friendly option. If he's not dealt, I can see them keeping him. I don't see us keeping Volstad, Soto, or Wells, unless they really come back strong. Lots of flexibility for sure, depending on what we want to do with it. My guess is BJ Upton is a big focus, maybe Annibal Sanchez. If we go get Upton, I could see a trade involving Brett or Szczur and more, bringing in a SP. But I doubt we take the payroll much above 100 mill until they think of us as being contenders. But who knows? Keeping Garza, adding Upton and Sanchez? That, plus getting help from the farm may be enough in our crappy division as it is.
  24. No clue about some of the perks like what Kirk got. Goldstein said the education packages don't count against the monetary cap. You csn't immediately be added to the 40 man. I guess that would obviously change if you actually brought the kid up without putting him in the minors at all. Kind of doubt they could tell you that you can't do that. No idea if you can set a target time or not though, as far as that stuff goes either.
  25. Truffle, there's a much different leverage here. Football and basketball both have true rookie slotting scales. It's much more cut and dry. You get picked 8th, you get THAT money or you don't play. Baseball gave teams the ability to allocate more money to different picks, if they choose to. They also don't have a cut and dry system in place that says if you're in the draft, that's you're only option. Yeah, an NBA player can technically go overseas and play, but it's not a regular development, by any means. This is MUCH different than the NFL or NBA. I have little doubt we'll get Almora, Johnson, Blackburn, and Underwood signed. We'll get it done, one way or another. But this system is fucked up. If it wasn't, players would be drafted in an order more in tune with their talent, rather than by signability.
