  1. This is the most upside we could possibly have taken. And he's a good kid too. Favorite pick for me honestly.
  2. And he was wrong. We [expletive] rule. LOVE Underwood.
  3. Yeah, Callis has said he expects HS kids to basically go through the 2nd round, then really fall off bigtime after that, due to signability. Yeah, we'll get our share of Austin Reed, Colin Richardson, Ryan Hartman types at some point, but there's very few HS guys that sign for between 200-400K, it seems. Maybe we can take a HSer in the 3rd, but that's only because our 3rd round slot is still close to 500K. My guess is we'll take one more inside the top 10 rounds.
  4. Callis says teams are allowed to call time outs today, while picking. Weird.
  5. Twomey, Virant, Underwood, and Lovegrove are the 4 guys I really would like to see us take one of. Buttrey or Pike would be very nice as well. If we go hitting, Kelly or Mathisen, my guesd is they're very expensive though. Mitch Brown's really good too as far as HS pitching goes. I think we'll take Agosta myself and that's not bad either. I've got a list of 40 guys I'd like to see us get 2 of somehow.
  6. I'd put Almora 2nd, behind Rizzo. I'd go ahead and slot Johnson in as our top pitching prospect personally. Because he's considered a mid to late 1st round guy on talent. I probably put Blackburn right behind McNutt too. He may not have the upside of Maples, but it's close and his floor is much higher. I love the fact this regime IS taking upside guys, just not ones with huge bust potential. Yeah, someone like Weickel or Smoral would have been great, but the floor is probably higher with Blackburn, in my mind. And taking a guy that can possibly wind up as a 2 or 3 with both our supp picks is just fine with me.
  7. I'm sure Boras has let teams know beforehand what his clients wants and needs are. He's a hardass, but he would have been shuffled away by now if there wasn't some give and take involved berween him and GM's. Plus, he wants and needs(and has) a great relationship with the Cubs. And Theo as well.
  8. I was entertaining the thought of Appel at 6 while he was dropping. If his pricetag is 6-7 mill, it's not nearly worth it. we got a future stud CF that everyone raves about at 6. We got great value at 43 because of an injury issue that the guy has already come back from. Hell, Johnson was rumored to go 11 to the A's earlier yesterday. And my favorite pick was actually Blackburn. Shot at 3 plus pitches, good control and command already, athletic, with projection. So far I've got us at either a B+ or maybe even an A-. We've done VERY well.
  9. David, it's on Twitter. Can't link from my phone. Conor Glassey of BA just said the 4 winners of day 1 were the Jays, Pads, Astros, and Cubs.
  10. McDaniel said us, SD, and the Astros have had the 3 best drafts so far.
  11. I went through the PSD thread. The only other guy Marlin mentioned was Martin Agosta. Said it'd be Johnson or him at 43. So I would think he's a possibility at 67. Although I figure we'll either take a position player or a LHP at 67. Nolan Fontana would be a nice pickup if we take a bat. If signable, Virant is my top choice tomorrow. I also like Kyle Twomey a lot and Alex Wood too. Agosta is solid, but doesn't seem to have a big upside. I love Duane Underwood and like Kieran Lovegrove quite a bit as well. Ty Buttrey or Mitch Brown would be damn solid picks as well.
  12. I don't want to sift through that whole thread. Anything from him about tomorrow?
  13. Wyatt Mathisen, Carson Kelly, Trey and Nick Williams, and Hunter Virant seem to be the big overslots left to me. All would be bigtime pickups, my uneducated guess says that both Williams' will be nearly impossible to sign. Virant is headed to UCLA and he will be very tough as well. Kelly's going to Oregon and Mathisen to Texas. None will be easy. All have first round potential in the future.
  14. As far as Smoral went, he's going to be a very significant overslot. Toronto had two firsts and three supplemental picks. Much easier for them to absorb his demands than us.
  15. The guys I had on my mind were Smoral, Weickel, and Hunter Virant. He's still out there anyway. Johnson can stick as a starter or certainly will be given every shot to do so. I love Blackburn. Projectable, hits 94, has really good control and may wind up with 3 plus pitches. Excellent pick and I can see why they went with Johnson, to leave a little extra money towards Blackburn.
  16. Nice pick. Not really the guy I really wanted, but there's still 3 I'd be thrilled with. As it is, Johnson is a guy we got later than he should have gone too. I do like it, but I'd love a couple of others.
  17. There are tons of pitchers all lumped together at this point. Yeah, there's a few left I really, really would be thrilled with, but I'm superstitious about this kind of [expletive]. but even if they go away, there's 20ish others that I'm hoping we get 3 of at 43, 56, and 67.
  18. He's an ESPN guy and he actually IS one of the best out there.
  19. Bullet dodged. Appel unavailable for call with Pitt media lol.
  20. Cardinals either are cheap as [expletive] or are saving money to get McCullers later on.
  21. In all honesty, this system benefits the guy who probably had more input than anyone else. Reinsdorf.
  22. Nats don't have the budget for Giolito. Here's another team about to play the penalty game.
  23. There's no reason at all to rush Almora. my guess is he spends a little time in Mesa, most of his season in Boise and gets a couple of weeks in Peoria, if he's played well.
