  1. Bats probably available at the deadline: Carlos Quentin, Seth Smith, Marco Scutaro, Carlos Lee, Justin Morneau, Denard Span, Josh Willingham, and Ryan Doumit. And at this point, I could even see Minnesota holding tight. To me, counting Minnesota, thete's 7 teams that are sellers. Not everyone else is buying, but it sets up very well for us to get at least a borderline decent return for Soriano, because there's just not that much that's going to be out there.
  2. Vitters and Baez each have a walk. I wish I didn't feel like that's worth posting.
  3. Honestly, Lebron's just kind of douchey. Wade's an out and out prick.
  4. Maybe they want to reward Kyler by letting him pitch in the ASG and if so, I'm fine with it. As long as he's booked on the next flight to Daytona, as soon as he's done pitching.
  5. We need to somehow finish pure last with awesome performances from longterm assets ruined by horrible performances from shortterm gets. Yep. The bullpen, every single one of them currently in the majors can blow game after game as far as I'm concerned. Really need to see Shark bouncr back, for some reason, I think his continued development is the key to what we ultimately do with Garza.
  6. I hate saying this, but I'd rather go 62-100, than 81-81. We'll have much more flexibility going forward this way monetarily and have draft and IFA advantages to go along with it. I just want Shark to come back strong and for Rizzo to be solid when he comes up. Whether we trade Garza and/or LaHair is up to them. Better get Soler though, no excuses on that one at all.
  7. Well, it looks like the suckitude from the majors is trickling down today. Acosta went 0-3 , 3k's. Did walk twice. Malave 0-4 1k. Brett is 0-3, 2k's. Torreyes is 0-2, 2k's.
  8. Serious question: Our bullpen has 16 losses already this season. Even though individual wins and losses is prett much meaningless, does the number attributed to the entire bullpen mean more? 16 seems like an inordinate, unsustainably high number to me.......
  9. OK, what was your offseason plan then?
  10. IMB, truly sorry to hear about your loss. I was pulling for them anyway, but even moreso now. SSR, good luck tonight, definitely hoping your guys find a way somehow. OKC all the way though.
  11. He said something else negative about Castro, so I told him I hope he realizes he only criticizes Latin American players. He called me an idiot, I responded by saying a hateful, immediate response kind of proves he's a racist and the blockage happened.
  12. https://twitter.com/bigmacmark2112/status/210873415630995457 Jake Drossner supposedly signs. Supposed to have been a tough later round guy.
  13. In a run depressed environment like it is, I could see a team giving up a top 20ish guy from their system, or perhaps a pair of top 30 guys, for Soriano, if we actually eat the 90% figure that's been mentioned before.
  14. Soriano's fWAR went from 1.4 to 1.7 after the 2 homer night. Was wondering how much a hitter could gain in a game like that.
  15. Austin Pentacoste has signed or will very soon anyway. http://www.tri-cityherald.com/2012/06/06/1973531/chicago-cubs-draft-kennewick-high.html https://twitter.com/IU_CMART_37/status/211162446516322304 Chad martin is signed. http://www.kolotv.com/home/headlines/Wolf_Pack_Catcher_Escobar_Drafed_by_Cubs_157344785.html Escobar plans on signing. http://www.sanluisobispo.com/2012/06/05/2093977/nipomos-mcneil-drafted-in-third.html McNeil wants to sign, negotiations take place in a week. http://cubs.scout.com/2/1192714.html Heesch is a lifelong Cubs fan, so he'll be signing obviously. http://cubs.scout.com/2/1192714.html Bruno may have signed. Got these from Yagyu, over at PSD, who's doing a phenomenal job keeping up with this, by the way. Big ups to him on this for sure.
  16. That's a very interesting point. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that this is kind of like throwing stuff up against the wall and seeing what sticks, in their way of trying to find whatever the new "market inefficiency' is.
  17. What I consider value to be for Soriano is something like a top 20 prospect from an average system. If he can go to an AL team and DH, I think that's doable.
  18. Knees still hobbled...still crazy expensive...still Alfonso Soriano...value not changing. If we're actually willing to pay 90% of his contract, I could see an AL team giving us SOMETHING of value back.
  19. If Hendry had read that, it'd be his new offseason theme.
  20. I've not paid much attention to Gretzky, but I think he's a 3B/OF for the most part.
  21. Yeah, there's others that could sneak in as well. We could sign a top July 2nd guy, Concepcion, Rosario, Vogelbach, a trade piece for LaHair possibly, Amaya, Malave, Acosta, Burke, Kirk, Silva, Alcantara, who knows? Not all of them even make our top 30 is what's fun. The depth is already there, adding a few top 100ish types vaults us past quite a few teams.
  22. Heyman evidently said we've offered to pay 90% of Sori's contract and there's been no takers. He's probably worth 4-5 mill to a contender THIS season.
  23. Potentially, our top 10 heading into next season conceivably would include Baez, Almora, Soler, Brett,(could easily come up in September and keep rookie status) a guy we've received for Dempster, and possibly 2 guys we'd get for Garza. Add in Szczur, and it'd only leave 2 spots. Probably filled by Lake, McNutt, Vitters, Pierce Johnson, Blackburn, Underwood, Candelario, Hernandez, Torreyes, Wells, Whitenack, Maples, Jensen, or Dunston Jr. Basically, after the group of 8, our system has plenty of guys that have a serious chance to step up. But if we do sign Soler, keep Brett down, and trade Garza and Dempster, we could wind up with between 6-8 guys on BA's top 100 next year. Definitely a top 10 system, possibly much higher.
