  1. I want no part of an extension with him unless it's EXTREMELY team friendly obviously. If he comes back and pitches well next year, I'm not sure you roll the dice and give him one or trade him at the deadline and hope for an Annibal Sanchez type package that still nets you a top 100ish type arm. But letting him play out the year and waiting on a comp pick is certainly not an option. Or at least a very dumb one. This is two straight seasons with an elbow issue. He's never had TJS, so the likelihood of him needing one is probably magnified. If he does have to have one within a year or two, you're wasting that money for 2 years basically and then getting him back in his early 30's. There are and will be pitchers out there that are as good as him available, probably with less risk moving forward.
  2. There's no way we count on him as a rotation guy next year. First, he's young as hell, second he's coming off of TJS, and third, most importantly, the max innings he's EVER pitched in a prefessional season is 113 and he blew his arm out doing it. I hope he's in Tennessee or Iowa next year with possibly a September callup, if things have gone well.
  3. Yes and he's already mentioned the Delgado, should have been ours-thing too.
  4. It's early and I havnt had my coffee, so the answer to this question is likely an obvious one: who the hell is Perez? Martin most likely.
  5. Yeah, Hutchison was one of my guys. But at this point, Garza almost definitely goes into next year as a Cub. Hope he pitches well and go from there.
  6. Assuming Garza's here and pitching, I guess it's possible to have him, Shark, Wood, and one youngster we can find in a trade, along with a vet stopgap.
  7. so again, why does one "gotta think" that the worst case scenario - blows out elbow in spring training after presumably undergoing a thorough physical before signing - will be the one that comes through? please phrase your response in a format that does not include "it's the cubs." I just said I took the doom and gloom approach. I figure that kind of explained itself.
  8. And sniping commences again.
  9. I just listened to his interview on the Score from earlier today. He was quite annoyed that this story has blown back up in his face. What'd he say? At this point, I really wonder if he even had a source or juat threw some [expletive] at the wall.
  10. Iowa's going against Bauer.
  11. Worst case scenario. Blows it out in ST next year, after agreeing in arb.
  12. Yeah, admittedly it's the doom and gloom approach. But this is two straight seasons with an elbow issue and he's yet to go under the knife. Obviously, I hope I'm wrong.
  13. Well, it was officially a bad gamble not trading him over the offseason. Gotta think we're going to be paying him next year to rehab from TJS.
  14. Honestly, I'm not expecting much, but he's got more of a shot at contributing longterm than any of the other options.
  15. Keep in mind, the initial accusation was from a Paul Sullivan article and there has yet to even be a quote attributed to anyone from the Dodgers.
  16. Brett hitting first against a lefty is interesting. Glad to see them getting him as many AB's as possible.
  17. Yeah, Castillo's there. The more I think about things, I'd say there's at least a 25% chance both Brett and Vitters are dealt and well over a 50% chance at least one is.
  18. By the sounds of things Vitters probably won't get the AB's to lose his status. If you count him still, my guess for the rest of BA's top 10 are Villanueva, Candelario, Johnson, Vogelbach, and Alcantara. They'll still be really high on Maples too, is my guess. Amaya could possibly sneak into their top 10 as well.
  19. I guess there's not a place out there with that info, I was hoping someone had it too. I asked Callis a couple of Torreyes questions this morning. He does NOT see him as a top 10 guy in our system, one potential plus tool and so small.....(As Toonster lets out an "I told you so".) Also said Altuve is the dream on what he becomes.
  20. Cautiously optimistic at least.
  21. We'll never know, but supposedly the Cubs had Dempster call Colletti. To hear it from him directly. I have no clue what kind of etiquette is involved in a situation like that. At any rate, it certainly puts the other guy on the spot. That's probably what they're upset about. It still goes back to Dempster being a complete douche throughout the entire process. It takes a lot of audacity to walk into your bosses office so you can oversee what they're doing.
  22. McNeil is a bit of a project too. I thought he was definitely projectable, but already had a solid feel for pitching anyway?
  23. Well, he's rusty. In all honesty though, I think of him and Maples as projects. While I kind of expect Johnson and Blackburn, maybe even McNeil, to move quicker.
  24. please jesus let it be rusin. we need to secure the #3 pick. coleman all the way. Colorado is still in my sites at 2. I was relatively high on Rusin at one point, but I have serious doubts as to whether he's any more successful than Coleman has been. We've got the open roster spot, so my guess is it's him.
