  1. I was hoping no one would ever bring him up, so not to jinx it. But that's exactly what I see Torreyes becoming, minus a little speed.
  2. How are you defining "best arms"? It might sound like a small difference, but I can buy top 10, but not sure about top 5. Maybe ... but Bundy, Cole, Tailion, Walker, Fernandez would seem to have the quality of Bradley's arm while being more polished. If you just want to talk raw arm ability, Luis Heredia is probably in the discussion. If we're talking uniqueness of arm, a lefty like Skaggs is arguably a "better arm". Touche. I didn't actually list guys out, won't argue any of those guys, and I'd throw Bauer in there too. Top 10 still should make our case pretty solidly.
  3. Wait, how's that the polar opposite from me? I've never argued against the hit tool as being ... illegitimate? Polar opposite's not the right wording there obviously. I know you don't think the kid sucks or anything. I'm just much more sold he winds up as our longterm 2B than you are.
  4. Dew, in case you didn't know, Bradley is one year out of HS, was one of the top QB prospects in the country, and throws in the high 90's. His upside is the single highest of any player I just mentioned and it's probably not all that close. I understand wanting someone closer to the majors, but Bradley probably has one of the 5 best arms in all of the minors.
  5. I'm the polar opposite of Toonster on Torreyes: I think the hit tool is totally legit. I see him as a solid defensive 2B, that can hit .300 in the majors consistently, with 35-40 doubles and close to double digit homers in his prime.
  6. Yeah, I'm right there with you. Oh wait, Randall Delgado K'd 10 in 6 innings a couple nights ago in AAA. So, maybe not. In fact, I was hoping Pujols took him deep multiple times tonight.
  7. He's gonna be good. How's his defense? I was excited when we got him and it took him some time but he's really come around. I wonder if he will sniff AA this year... probably start there next year. Solid defensively at 2B, he's played SS a bit this year, but doesn't have the range or arm to play there in the majors.
  8. I just want to thank, little 8 pound, 6 ounce, baby Torreyes, for all the hits he's been bringing us.
  9. I doubt Atlanta's going to be looking for a SP in the offseason though. They've got Hudson, Maholm, Hanson, Minor, Beach due back at some point, and Delgado, Teheran, and Gilmartin in the wings. With Chipper retiring, they MAY need a 3B, if they don't move Prado there. If they DO move him there, they'll need a LF and Bourn is a FA, so they may need a CF as well.
  10. All I know is I find myself hoping we revisit Delgado in the offseason with Atlanta. Maybe if one of Brett or Vitters comes up and does well, they could lead a package for him.
  11. Yeah, so Villanueva hit a HR his 2nd at bat too.
  12. Surely, there's not a single person here that would rather have Pujols or Fielder, with the contracts they just signed, than Rizzo, at this point? Right?
  13. The final was 116-48, but I remain convinced the original Dream Team could have held Angola scoreless.
  14. Washington just said the plan is for Olt to play 1B and DH. Against lefties. Awesome.
  15. First off, they're not going to "give" him away for salary relief. They wanted bigtime prospects in return a few days ago AND for a team to pick up the vast majority of his salary. Trading for him, to trade him again makes zero sense. Wouldn't surprise me to see the Dodgers claim him and offer up Zack Lee and more for him, to see if the Phils bite. They may be about the only team out there currently that has no problem taking on his contract. At least among contending teams.
  16. He also traded James McDonald+ for Dotel, and Josh Bell+ For George Sherrill(Bell turned into nothing, but he was a top prospect 2 months later, and he got a terrible return for him because he's dumb) The Dotel trade was awful. I would have preferred getting McDonald and Andrew Lambo for Lilly and Theriot and I'm confident that those guys, had to be on the table, because they were more valuable than Dotel obviously. That said, McDonald needed a change of scenery. They gave him chances out there and he wasn't getting it done. Don't get me wrong, they should have gotten much more than they did, but he had lost quite a bit of luster. Lambo was the guy everyone was shocked about being included, because he had been a top 100 guy just a season before, if I remember correctly. But had 2 strikes on the drug policy already. I hate defending Ned, by the way, because I don't consider him a good GM. But he's done OK with what he's been given. Some good trades, a couple bad ones, and a spotty FA record. Below average? Yes. But not bad enough to run your franchise into the ground.
  17. You could be right. But Aramis just flat out said he didn't want to be dealt. I respect that. DLee turned down a trade, but I think he changed his mind and decided in August to go to a contender. Plus, who knows how thorough Hendry was in that type of situation. Lee may actually HAVE been blindsided. I have my doubts as I can't imagine another player holding a team up until 15 minutes before the deadline, before consenting to allow more than one team to get him.
  18. Oh, we'll never sign anyone to a deal longer than 5 years? At least we'll have a highly rated farm system I guess. Nah, just meant it's hard to see anyone else being as much of a douche about things as Dempster was.
  19. I actually like what the Dodgers did. Why are they inclined to want a player just because that player wants them? My guess is if they need a pitcher, they'll get one in August anyway. I can see them claiming Beckett and paying his salary, getting him for free. By the way, evidently Hoyer was on WSCR and said that this is NOT how trades are supposed to go down, inferring to Dempster waiting until 15 minutes before the deadline before opening it up to more than the Dodgers. Makes me think the return was that much more solid, because our leverage was completely lost. Luckily for us, we won't be put in this position again by anyone else.
  20. You'd only be "OK" with Corbin/Bradley? I'd jump for joy if that happened. One possible team you leave out are the Dodgers. I could see them pursue a big time starter. The new ownership seems to want to play big. Maybe not Zach Lee, but I could see Webster and another arm as a possible offering, and that would fit in line, value-wise, with some of the offers you have. oK was slang, in a way. My two favorites were trades I don't really see getting that much for him.
  21. I'm much more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt now, than before. When he got here, AZPhil liked what he saw. It's possible he got sick earlier than when he was taken out of the rotation. New to the country, just signed a big contract, possible he wanted to just try and get through it, since he's supposedly a high makeup guy. Pure speculation by me though. That said, I hope he comes back better than Simpson did.
  22. Dew, a few trades I'd be OK with for Garza over the offseason: Hutchison and Syndergaard, Doubront and Barnes(iffy), Odorizzi and Ventura(my favorite), Delgado and Gilmartin(doubt Atlanta's looking), Corcino and Cingrani, Perwz and Buckel, Corbin and Bradley(another favorite).
  23. Ned is old school, but he's been handcuffed bigtime out there up until now. He's handed out some bad FA contracts obviously, but his trade track record probably doesn't look all that bad. The Blake for Santana deal is what everyone points to and it WAS bad. But my guess is if you judge him on his entire body of work, he shows up as utterly average, in the grand scheme of things.
  24. Well, damnit, I like Brett and will continue to convince myself Sveum will fix him. Even if others points make sense.
  25. I think I actually take that as an argument FOR me, right? Since he started performing better afterward again?
