  1. Unless I'm misreading his tweet, Law thinks Ward WILL be in 2013 draft, as long as he goes to a JC. That said, he also said he's NOT a first rounder. So, that kind of makes it a bit harder to imagine him signing, if he's drafted outside the 1st.
  2. I threw that out there since Callis mentioned him as a 11-20 guy. But after looking at Sickels preliminary lists, I'll retract what I said. I guess it's possible he could move past Bogaerts with a great showing, but he's not passing Profar, Myers, or Taveres. And pitching has lots of depth, with 7-10 guys that are all likely to be ranked as high or higher than him. I'll say top 15 though and feel comfortable about it, after looking though.
  3. If he crushes in the AFL, he could be a consensus top 10 prospect heading into next year.
  4. On Ward, Chris Crawford, of MLBDraftInsider(I like his stuff quite a bit) doesn't see Ward as a top 25 talent in 13 or 14 right now. Thinks there is a ton of hype going, but he's not there yet. As for Rodon, conceivably he could transfer and be eligible, but his parents are very education oriented, so I doubt it happens.
  5. The Royals evidently have 20-23 mill to spend this offseason, after arb raises. I can't see them (or anyone else, for that matter) giving up anything of value for Garza, when there are plenty of pitchers on his level, or slightly below, as FA, that are currently healthy. The Royals probably need to sign one guy like a Sanchez, Jackson, Marcum, McCarthy type and use their system to add another one in trade. Just can't see it being a guy with one year left on his deal and that has elbow issues.
  6. We're not giving this thread nearly enough talk, but AZPhil thinks Nathan Dorris has been a nice surprise that coukd develop into a quality lefty SP prospect. He thinks Maples, Lang, Underwood, and McNeil all get left behind at EXST, but that Blackburn likely begins at Kane County. Says he doesn't throw hard, but is very smart, even pitches backwards, countwise, keeping hitters completely offbalance. Johnson probably begins there too, he thinks Paniagua can start off in Daytona.
  7. The Royals two best tradable pitching prospects are Jake Odorizzi and Yordano Ventura. Zimmer can't be dealt yet. Montgomery's stock dropped a ton this year and we already took a flier on a TJS guy, with Vizcaino, doubt we want another one thats yet to pitch since the surgery. Kyle's right though, Garza's going to have to pitch and pitch effectively, before a team gives up anything of value for him. If he'd take a 3-4 year extension right now, it'd probably be the best possible outcomeWe'd still have the ability to trade him, if warranted, and we'd have his best years locked in too. But I doubt he's ameniable to that right now, because if he does stay healthy in 2013, he's likely to get 100 mill on the open market from someone, or close to it at least.
  8. I threw him out there because Arizona almost definitely will be trading an OFer and theres been speculation it'll be him. He'll be making 8.7 mill next year, has an 11 mill team option after that and has some power. Which Sveum said he wants anyway. I doubt he'd cost us much, in terms of prospects, and has had some solid seasons. I figure he's a decent stopgap for us, while we're rebuilding.
  9. Sappelt looked solid in his short time, but everything up until this screams 4th OF. I'm perfectly happy with him getting 250-300 at bats in that role, but thats the max I want to see him. My guess is we trade for a Chris Young type in CF, add a couple of SP in FA and a bullpen arm or two. A trade or two woukd be interesting, but thats all I really see us doing. Soriano stays and Valbuena and Stewart give us an underwhelming 3B. Better pitching and progression fron Castro, Rizzo, and Castillo get us to 70-73 wins next year, even after a couple of selloffs at the deadline. I hope for more, but thats all the activity I actually see this offseason.
  10. Oooh, I forgot about Chen. He'd have been an excellent find.
  11. Why did no one give Chipper some tooth paste?
  12. I think you give Wells too much credit. I'd put it at 50/50 he ever pitches another major league game.
  13. If Mike Trout had played in the MWL this year, his MLE was a .489/.598/.952 slash line, with 41 doubles, 15 triples, 53 homers, 232 runs scored, 149 RBI, and 74/78 SB.
  14. I think Bauer is realistic. With Shark on the table. Not sure what I'd do there.
  15. ABTY made mention that Beane looks at Barney as a SS. Even if it weren't for Anderson, Oakland has plenty of very interesting pitching.
  16. I put this in a different forum, but it belongs here. Other pitchibg we've inquired on already includes Jason Vargas, Hichevar, Ubaldo, Wade Davis, Casey Kelky, Anthony Bass, Derek Holland, Chacin, and Brett Anderson. He also said he was told Carlos Villanueva is expected to be a Cub. Again, all from ABTY.
  17. There is no way Trevor Bauer is going to bring back the type of package David Price would.
  18. David, probably the wrong place to put this, but some other things he's mentioned: Was told to expect Carlos Villanueva to be a Cub. Also have inquired on Corbin and Young with Arizona. Have also talked about Jason Vargas, Hochevar, Ubaldo, Anthony Bass, Chacin, Wade Davis, Derek Holland, Brett Anderson, and Casey Kelly.
  19. I figure Villanueva gets dealt at some point personally. And if ABTY is right and we've checked in on Trevor Bauer, Baez could be a goner too honestly.
  20. He evidently got a bit plump during the season. Prior to that, Mike Newman was thinking 2B was a real possibility. Hopefully, it was an aberration and he harnesses it, because he'd be very intriguing as a 2B prospect.
  21. Theo said yesterday he sees FA as the least valuable way to improve the team. My guess all along has been the bulk of big moves we make winds up being thru trades. I wish like hell we had gotten Cespedes. At this point, I wish we had gotten Puig. I'm still not going to be sold on Darvish until he does it a 2nd season though.
  22. Is it 5 mill per WAR on the FA market still? Soriano has been worth 20 WAR so far as a Cub.
  23. Jackson turned down 3/27 from the Pirates, because he was wanting 5/60. At that point, signing a one year deal with a contender was certainly a better option than a rebuilding team.
  24. I figure we have Marmol, Russell, and probably Camp as far as the pen goes. My guess is we'll see two guys out of a large group also make it, out of Dolis, Cabrera, Beliveau, Chapman, Bowden, and a few others. Then we'll sign a pair of vets to one year deals. And with the volatility of pens, my guess is ours is relatively solid next ywar, by doing that.
  25. Nate, thanks a ton. Kane County has some huge shoes to fill around here.
