  1. I hope from here on out we use the take it or leave it approach some other teams are doing. I'm about as confident in this happening now as in us signing Hamilton.
  2. Our own beat writers must have zero relationship with the FO. It seems anything we do is either broken nationally or by an announcement on Cubs.com.
  3. Its like we sneak up behind someone and at the last second, we step on a twig.
  4. The dual fronts crowd just went silent. Stealth ass [expletive], Theo.
  5. Holy [expletive]. I'd say this deserves its own thread, right? Wow.
  6. After holding on to Castillo all year, I guess they're not ready to attempt passing him through yet. Personally, I think Campana is dealable for a nonroster flyer. Clevenger? May or may not pass through, but we'll likely need a 3rd C at some point. Rusin isn't even eligible yet to be DFA'd. We just picked Rosario up. Likely will try same thing with him Texas and Boston did(we know he'll clear AL now anyway). Concepcion? No clue if language in his deal even allows him to be dropped. Bottom line: We need to make a trade or two that clears 3-4 spots somehow.
  7. He'd have been about my 6th choice Yeah, he wasn't my top choice either. If he clears though, it looks like we'll have him, Putnam, Gutierrez, likely Rosario(assuming we try what everyone else has been, but succeed) and maybe Chapman as guys we can roster at any point. We'll likely just have a revolving spot or two, to help combat the lack of flexibility due to carrying some guys we basically know aren't seeing the majors in 2013.
  8. We DFA'd Beliveau, according to Rotoworld.
  9. I want the Rangers to sign a FA, not trade Profar+ and get Stanton.
  10. The Dempster deal is solid.
  11. Bourjos will cost more than Marmol, I'd think. Plenty of teams will be inquiring, thats for sure. If we pay Marmol's deal, I guess I could see something like Marmol and Szczur and/or Vitters for him.
  12. Bourjos would be a nice fit for us, if Angels get Hamilton.
  13. That scenario also figures in another terrible team in 2013 meaning we have to make up 25 wins in one offseason in order to not punt 3 consecutive years. Can someone set that up? I laughed my ass off. But come on, I'm not and never have said this will take us forever to accomplish. I do think we'll be sellers in 2013, which sets up 2014 as having the big IFA budget and high picks. That doesn't mean we can't compete in 2014 though, depending on what else happens between now and then. And it doesn't mean we have to sign high end players this offseason either. But damn, I'm fully aware I'm a broken record. That was phenomenal.
  14. SSR, I'd think its around 15 or so, that have the upside arms that we do. And I'd add that not a single team added as much pitching as we did in the past season.
  15. That scenario also figures in another terrible team in 2013 meaning we have to make up 25 wins in one offseason in order to not punt 3 consecutive years. One, we're likely to be a 70ish win team in 2013. Two, adding a SP like Price or Felix and a hitter like Upton or Stanton, puts you halfway to that 25 win area on its own. Do they go further and add an Ellsbury or Something in FA? In this scenario, do it. Still though, you don't have to do everything at once, some could come at yhe deadline.
  16. So 1 guy who'll crack the BA top 100(maybe?) this year. Considering they didn't even spend their top draft pick on a SP, thats pretty good. With legit possibilities of multiple guys from my list becoming those type prospects at some point.
  17. Upton will obviously cost much less than Stanton, not sure we could have much left over if he dealt for Price AND Stanton, but once you factor in another high pick in 2014, large IFA budget, and any talent we acquire in selloffs between now and then, its a possibility.
  18. Hypothetically, we "could" add Price or Felix and Upton or Stanton next offseason. Wouldn't even be clearing out the minors, in order to do it.
  19. This group took over an organization with basically zero pitching in the minors at any level. In one year, they added Vizcaino(ranked 40th by BA, pre-TJS), Paniagua(definite breakout candidate that likely hits AA in 2012), Pierce Johnson(2/3 upside thats likely to hit Daytona in 2013) Paul Blackburn(midrotation type thats advanced for his age and could move quick), and Duane Underwood(very raw, but plus makeup and likely the highest ceiling of anyone in the system). Hell, we've added more than that actually, that have chances to hit the rotation. At any rate, one more year of us adding another class like this and plenty of teams will be envious of our young pitching.
  20. Obviously, I like the direction. The second part of Olney's quote had us possibly being ready to trade for David Price, next offseason. I'm all for making bigtime moves at that point, but we need to make an impact move(adding prospects or very young major leaguers) or two over the course of this offseason.
  21. I have to admit that I was very high on Maples back when we drafted him(although, it could have just been excitement of us spending). That said, he's older, has iffy at best mechanics, and may or may not even begin the season in Kane County, it'll be a while before he's under consideration for me. Likely in the 15-20 range, but he'll get enough votes to hit our top 10 on here most likely.
  22. Villanueva gets my vote, seems safer than most of whats left, albeit with less upside than quite a few.
  23. It wouldn't surprise me if Trevor May and/or Vance Worley were our targets and they're in Minnesota now.
  24. Yeah, I'm fine with giving Paniagua 7 and starting the vote on 8, maybe with a provision that moving forward, if a vote is within 3, a runoff is done with both guys getting next two spots. If vote is within 5, both spots taken as well?
  25. Marlin says we're not interested in him. Their system is crap, if we can't get Biddle from them(very unlikely) then they've got nothing else I'd be interested in.
