  1. Manute Bols' kid plays for Southern. Not sure why I think thats cool. At any rate, with 13 minutes to go, Southern is hanging in.
  2. Gooney's right. But I would have taken Prior over Teixeira. Thought there was solid amountbof separation in talent. Just as this year, I'd definitely take Appel and Gray is 50/50 for me right now, over any hitter in the draft.
  3. I'm optimistic obviously: 21 and 35.
  4. Over/Under 55 for combined Castro and Rizzo homers this year? I'll take over, barely.
  5. They're coming off of having Valverde as their closer. For as good as the rest of their team is, they evidently want someone who's not going to give you a heart attack. More consistent. You pretty much know what Street will give you.
  6. Isn't Shipley a bit smallish? Toonster, what don't you like about Gray?
  7. Brad Jones and Karlos Dansby are still out there in FA for MLB. I'd take either over Urlacher, at this time of his career. If we prefer filling OLB, Daryl Smith, Nick Burnett, Thomas Howard, Justin Durant, DJ Williams, and Leroy Hill are all still available. I feel pretty confident that we can add one ghy from one of these 2 groups, and spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on the other and be as good or better off than we were in 2012, between the 2 spots.
  8. And I'm disappointmentness he's not a Bears.
  9. I would have liked to have him back, but I think 2 mill was a fair offer honestly. Hopefully we find a starting LB via FA somehow, so we're not looking for 2 of them during the draft. At this point, I really hope we find a way to trade down into the 30's. It'd help us fill holes easier.
  10. Yeah, that was my thinking too. I'd think that if we were healthy, our rotation as a whole, would rank upper half. With only a select group of teams being head and shoulders above us.
  11. Fangraphs just ran a hybrid mix that calculates expected WAR value out of each position for every team in MLB. Unsure whether they attempt pitching as well. The Cubs ranked 24th at C(3.0), 5th at 1B(3.8), 19th at 2B(2.4), 4th at SS(3.8), 29th at 3B(1.8), 17th in LF(2.3), 23rd in CF(2.8) and 21st in RF(1.7). Overall, I didn't count DH in the AL obviously, the Cubs ranked 20th. Interesting notes-the Rockies ranked 1st overall with an expected positional WAR of 31.4. The Mariners actually ranked last at 13.3. The Astros were at 15.3, Marlins at 16.3. We were last in our division, Reds at 29.4(3rd overall), Brewers at 26.6(8th overall), Cards at 25.3(12th), and Pirates at 23.4(15th)
  12. Of note, neither Jose Rosario or Josh Conway have limited activity next to their names. Oversight? Or on track, I wonder?
  13. That means nothing. Alcantara is in Iowa currently. JCP is still unaccounted for. Thats the biggest thing I'm taking from the early list. But I would guess VISA issues will be problematic for him, based on his unknown past.
  14. http://www.suntimes.com/18969116-761/wrigley-aldermans-pitch-scrap-famed-scoreboard-for-video-version-as-big-as-you-want-sources.html What a stupid [expletive]. Can this guy please just go away? I'm surprised its gone this far.
  15. Loosen, Rusin, and Rodriguez.
  16. Javy's first at bat in minor league camp: Gone.
  17. The Angels just either traded or traded for a guy named Mike Cisco. The return was nothing. Not cash, PTBNL, literally nothing. Didn't know that was even possible.
  18. If a new ballpark cost a billion, but the move alone saves the Cubs 100 mill per year, it ought to be considered, shouldn't it?
  19. Has Bogusevic ever played 1B? If so, I'd take him over Clevenger.
  20. Its not just the Astros. Look at the Marlins, Twins, and Rockies. We're playing for 5th.
  21. I'll put this here, but probably should go elsewhere. Olney says MLB is willing to make major concessions to the union, in order to have an international draft. Among the concessions: Higher minimum salaries AND lesser time until players hit arbitration, plus more.
  22. I'm really starting to think Gray is in the top tier. Or Appel is alone and the second tier is just Bryant and Gray.
  23. If it costs a billion to build the park, I wonder if Joe would do that anyway. This is just posturing, but I wonder if it even DID come down to it, if he could be convinced to come off that kind of cash.
  24. I missed your edit. Happens more often when I know I'm right. Then get proven wrong.
  25. I'm not a fan of the idea. But I'm all for other locations making offers. Closest reasonable location, any ideas?
