  1. Wasn't Scott that made me say that, it's the thought of getting Warmack or Cooper.
  2. We re-signed Jonathan Scott. Personally, I like it. Decent swing tackle, gives us 3 options at RT. If we do somehow land Cooper or Warmack, I think the line is top half in the league anyway.
  3. Considering Theo says they want impact, I'm glad to see a connection to a high dollar guy, even if the report attached is underwhelming. That said, even if its wrong, I want Perez. Or Ho.
  4. Crawford has Shipley going 8th overall now. Anderson 9th. Andrew Mitchell moves to 11th. Andrew Thurman from UC Irvine is at 17. First time I've heard him in the 1st round area. He's got Ziomek at 29 and Windle at 35.
  5. McKirahan is extremely religious though. Possible it was just a passage from him. But yeah, its what I'm thinking as well.
  6. But by the late 2000s, they still had a strong farm system, and it was built during a time when they were winning WS. I don't see why we need to be bad to build a farm system. Until you acknowledge that the changes in the CBA actually matter, you never will. And we've been over this way too often as it is, so I don't want to do it again.
  7. This thread isn't about Theo.(or Kyle) Again, my issue is that I think the reason Theo's plan is what it is, is strictly catered to the fact that Ricketts couldn't(or at least wouldn't) ante up for Fielder and Darvish or other bigtime FA, until he had more revenue coming in. No one seems to question Theo's intelligence, so if he had the ability to do things like I just mentioned, there's really no reason why he wouldn't be doing them. To think he's sitting around and expecting to grow a full World Series contender is assinine. He wins a World Series here, he's likely getting voted into the Hall. I can't imagine he's chosen this route unless it made the most sense.
  8. Well, yeah; if there had been a group like the one that bought the Dodgers trying to get in on it with [expletive] you-money I'd be all for that...but was there? I thought maybe Utay? Maybe not. I was like everyone, pulling for Cuban. We may have gotten the best available owner, at the time. But that doesn't mean he's a good owner(currently). Once the renovations happen, new TV deal is on the books, I'll have no concerns. Hell, maybe I'm nitpicking even. I just think that things could be on a quicker pace and I blame Ricketts, not Theo.
  9. I'm referring to actually pulling it off though, not just the fact that they hired someone "saber-friendly." Was it actually hard to pull off though or just great timing? Theo already having multiple championships, a bad relationship with Lucchino, and a team starting to fade surely made it easier to get him. Thrilled to have him, but I'm not sure it was all that hard to get him. What? Are you forgetting how long it took to sort out the Theo compensation? That took a freaking eternity. Yeah. Theo wanted to come here, but making that actually happen wasn't easy by any means. That was Lucchino(and Henry, to an extent) being dicks. You give a guy a promotion, he accepts, you have to let him go. They just tried to milk us for as much as possible.
  10. I find it hard to believe I'm aligning with Kyle somewhat here. But I think Ricketts is overleveraged, knew he'd be cutting payroll, but is smart enough to hire a group that may be able to work well under those parameters. Where Kyle and I disagree, is I think that if Theo could have 150 mill payroll currently, he'd have it. And thats why I'm not a fan of Ricketts- at least not right now. I don't think he's willing to allow for that until we're adding our new TV contract into the mix. And to me, if you're buying a major market team, you better be able to act like one, without additional help. He ain't McCourt obviously, but I have to think one of the other groups could have been better equipped to own the Cubs.

  12. Being saber-friendly includes getting Theo to me.
  13. The only thing I'm impressed with so far from Ricketts is taking a saber-friendly approach in hires. Outside of that, I don't care that he seems like a nice guy. I think we had to have other options out there that would have been better positioned to spend as a major market team should. They mangled getting any outside help for funding part of the renovations. Which now means we're counting on Theo and Co to be smart enough to compete without having the advantages he should have.
  14. Chris Crawford has his 2nd mock out and has us taking Gray at 2. His mock goes through the supplemental round and the first thing I noticed is that both Jonathan Crawford and Bobby Wahl are not listed. If they somehow made it to us at 41, that'd be great.
  15. I'm with imb. Maybe not AS emphatic, but there definitely was a replay on it that made me think that it was the right call. They showed it twice. Again, I'm not sure it was conclusive, by any stretch, but that one angle did make it appear they got it right to me.
  16. Raisin, guys from British Columbia are draft eligible, correct? I was looking at a Bleacher Report(consider the source) article on the top 10 IFA's and they have a C/SS named Tyler O'Neill as the 3rd ranked IFA. He's an Oregon commit, for what its worth. But, unless somethings changed, these guys aren't IFA's right? I know we drafted Darvill anyway......
  17. We'll see. My guess is they prefer a 1st/2nd round OG to Moore or Booth. Or maybe just expect to keep Louis. But I don't think the O-Line is done being addressed. You certainly have a good point about the extra bodies, I'd rather have Moore or Booth over Anderson, Zbikowski, and Collins. I'd take the starter upgrade over depth, but again, I think its getting addressed in the draft.
  18. And I'll say this: I'd rather still have an offensive minded draft this year. Our D is old, but solid. I would spend our 1st and 2nd on a WR and an O-Lineman. Spend your 4th on a LB, grab a CB late and just expect next year will be an almost(maybe all) concentration on getting younger on the defensive side of the ball. Extend Melton, maybe Peanut or Jennings, draft LB, and CB early. Maybe DE too, depending on what shakes out with Peppers at that time. Hopefully, with the cap moving up a decent amount next year, it allows us to spend on a FA or two, as well.
  19. Raw, I think we need bodies though. Personally, I'll take Williams/Anderson being as productive as Urlacher/Roach as a whole. I like the flexibility, although I agree Moore or Booth would have been excellent additions. I'm not sure what our line is right now. Improved for sure. My guess is that by just signing Bushrod, it improved LT, likely gives us better play at RT as well, since Carimi was bad there last year, and improved a guard spot, since Carimi likely winds up moving inside for good, where he was much better anyway.
  20. I'm not very hip. What does that mean? I'm trying to figure it out too. My guess is its in response to Amanda Bynes(troubled former Disney actress) saying last week she wanted Drake(a rapper) to murder her vagina.
  21. Actially, it looks like the Yankees may be paying 13 mill of whats left. At any rate, the difference in asking price of the prospects coming back would be quite different. (Wells has had a decent ST, but still......) Personally, I think the Yankees will finish last in that division this year. No need for them to give up a decent to good return for Soriano, when its likely they're not even a playoff team this year. Wells is just a body, but could conceivably have a season close to what Sori does, if they get lucky.
  22. Law is at Fitch Park today. Mentioned that Vogelbach "drake'd" a ball out to RF. Also mentioned Whitenack is sitting 85-87. Petition to drop him 10+ spots on our list.
  23. There's a pretty good LHP(top 10 round talent) who's name is Tyler Nurdin. Name alone makes me want us to take him.
  24. Well, the Baker thing sucks. Hopefully we get him on another one year deal next season if he finishes up the year healthy.
  25. Solid depth. Excellent 4th LB, decent enough to start, if we need him to. Gives us that much more flexibility for the draft. Williams AND Anderson for same cost as Urlacher? I'll take that all day long. Damn good bargain shopping.
