  1. I'm pretty sure they have, although I can't find any quotes. That said, if they use him strictly in the pen this year, it won't surprise me obviously. In fact, I think that may have been a quote from Hoyer at one point, that they want him to be ready to start in 2014.
  2. If Garza has one more minor league start, he'll then have 13 starts between now and the deadline. The FA SP available in the offseason are putrid. My guess is they'll weight offers versus what he'll sign an extension for and go from there. He wants to be here evidently. If he gives us a nice discount and shows he's healthy by pitching well, I see no reason not to keep him. That said, I kind of wonder if we truly want to lock in 4 spots of our future rotation with Shark, Garza, E-Jax, and Wood. It leaves us one of Appel or Gray for the eventual 5th spot, but I kind of think they'll really attempt to add another young guy via trade, as ABTY mentioned at PSD.
  3. There was a quick blurb in a Garza article by Mooney tonight that mentioned Vizcaino as being "weeks away" from pitching in the minors. That sounds promising, I guess?
  4. Villanueva with a HR after a Torreyes double off of Taijuan Walker. Contreras HR, his 5th, also a single and a steal.
  5. Where will Gray's FB sit when he's pitching every fifth day instead of once a week? Same applies to Appel obviously.
  6. He also gave Gray's FB an 80, along with McPhearson an 80 grade in speed. I think he's way too anxious to give out 80's.
  7. Not really sure what happened here, but I basically agree with Kyle. This is a last gasp effort to use him as a SP, he still needs to get better.
  8. 10 years ago, I was the same as Kruk. I'd look at stuff on here and go post on my old Cubs site how moronic this place was.
  9. Yeah, he went 0-4 with a walk, but since coming back from injury he's K'd 2 times in 23 plate appearances.
  10. Travis Wood may be the guy I want extended the most.
  11. A tad surprising that Roney Alcala didn't make it stateside, at least for EXST, he put up very solid stats anyway as an 18 year old in 2012.
  12. Any interest depending on the cost, assuming they're ready to move him? With the emergence of Valbuena, Chisenhall is really kind of redundant. Yeah, I wanted him prior to the season, now I think he'd be a downgrade.
  13. Wasn't sure about that either. I"ll ask Badler. I think they were the top 2 for Kiley.
  14. Thats not a bad article, kind of surprising actually. But outside of Bruce(Miles) and Mooney, there's not a reason to bother reading anyone else. And I think that Sullivan, Levine, Rogers(both of them) wallow in so much stupidity, its no wonder the national media gets the majority of our scoops.

    Rondon

A bit wild at times, but unlike Castillo last year, he looks like he should be in the majors. Inconsistent, including his velo. Solid movement from my untrained eye. I think we've got a longterm addition with him.
  16. Gota admit I'm really hoping for a bigtime pitcher, but getting the top 2 guys period, would be pretty damn sweet. Where in the world is Maykky Perez? Thought he was far and away the best pitcher in the class? At any rate, I'm all for adding more IFA money. I've been expecting Vitters to be traded for some for a while now, for some reason. I understand not spending huge money on 16 year old pitchers, if we sign a bunch of projectable, cheaper types, its probablt the best strategy anyway and what they did last year.
  17. Badler's article is up, anything new in it?
  18. I love David Price, but this would be much smarter. I wouldn't trade Moore and I doubt Tampa will, but there's quite a few other intriguing young arms to deal for.
  19. Is there anyone they need to keep LF open for (assuming Soriano is moved before 2014)? No. The only possibility we'd have is if we acquired a guy thru trade this deadline.
  20. C Castillo 1B Rizzo 2B Barney SS Castro 3B Valbuena LF Soriano CF Ellsbury RF Schierholtz/Hairston SP Shark, E-Jax, Garza, Wood, David Price Pen Fujikawa, Russell, Rondon, Bowden, Villanueva, a guy from our org, and a FA Its not bad at all. Probably a .500+ team anyway. Plenty of flexibility moving forward too.
  21. The Cubsden guys dug around a bit after Rosenthal mentioned extending Garza and they said it really is a possibility, not necessarily just a ploy. Given his current situation, he could actually take a discount to stay, especially since he wants to be here. I like it. As for spending, my hope is we add money thru trades, the FA class is just too weak. I'd prefer Choo to Ellsbury as well, but I kind of think Cincy keeps him. That extra 25 mill a year coming in seems earmarked for him.
  22. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1291189.html Great stuff from Kiley on 2014 SP.
  23. His arb years would have gotten very expensive. Look at Ryan Howard, for instance. Plus, the two option years are great to have. If he becomes what we think he will, I could easily see those 4 arb years going 4,8,12, and 15 mill, with a 15 mill 1st year FA on the low end for each season. Great, great deal.
  24. No clue who that is or whats going on, but the dude beside her and the lady to her right's reaction is understatedly awesome.
