  1. Good question. I'll take the less popular of the two, in Geiger. He's younger than Rock, has a lesser K rate and is playing at the higher level.
  2. Oh well, Badler confirmed IFA money can't be dealt for until July 2nd. I thought it was available now, so unless it can be used as a PTBNL, we won't be getting any for Bowden. I do think he'll get dealt still though.
  3. One, teams have varying IFA allotments. Some slots aren't even worth 200k. Two, some teams don't spend money down there to begin with. Three, there aren't many bullpen arms available at this point and time and there are teams currently looking. Four, Bowden has put up a relatively decent ERA since the middle of last season. Five, there are still dumbasses that may think that matters that actually run baseball teams. Six, after seeing what Arizona gave up for Tony Campana, its entirely plausible to think a team that won't likely spend their entire allotment anyway, could trade a small portion of it for what they perceive could be a bandaid of a bullpen piece. Personally, I thought Raley getting pulled from his starr today could have been for the same reason. I think its pretty reasonable to think acquiring a fringe major leaguer appeals to some teams over a crapshoot on 16 year olds. Our situation though, trying to get impact guys down there, makes it very easy to see why we'd look at it in the opposite way. Its just a difference in how to allocate money.
  4. IFA space is exactly what I want. Right now, if we've got the money to basically go get the two top guys and we're looking to add impact, I'd love to scrounge around and find enough to add a third premiere talent. If Bowden somehow gets us 300-400k towards that, I'd be very happy.
  5. I'm not scared of Javy's numbers in Daytona at 20. I still look at him as a top 25 prospect, even before this hot streak. But I can't see any parallels with Cabrera. Cabrera went .274/.333/.421 with 38 walks and 85K's at 19 in the FSL in 545 PA. Then, at 20 in AA, went .365/.429/.609 with 31 walks and 49 K's in 303 PA.
  6. If Bowden gets dealt, instead of claimed, I'm fine with it. Otherwise, even if they're close to the same guy, you stick with the younger one.
  7. no idea who tweeted or retweeted them? Sorry, I've been busy as hell today. Without checking Twitter, I think NotTomRicketts retweeted a pic of them down there today. Maybe CCO(Chicagocubsonline)has a story or pics? Sorry, I honestly can't remember though. It may be morning before I have enough time to do a proper search. Check those 2 though, surely one is right.....
  8. Saw some retweeted pics earlier. Jed and Theo were there.
  9. Iowa is postponed and Daytona is delayed in the 6th.
  10. Just realized it hasn't been mentioned, but new Cubs Dominican Academy officially opened today. Cool stuff.
  11. Kyle is like magic. Well, still good, but now boxscore shows a double and only one RBI. Soler K'd.
  12. With other teams needing bullpen help, I guess there's a slim chance a team trades for Bowden. I could see the Braves, Phils, or Tigers potentially giving up their 3rd or 4th IFA slot for him possibly.
  13. At this exact moment, I think I'd take Trea Turner 1st overall.
  14. Baez is 20, the talent outweighs the stats right now. Yes, his season has been disappointing, but not altogether unsuspected either. Plenty of time to make adjustments. No, I have no idea if he will or not, but his status hasn't dropped that much at his age. Anyone obviously could have said he's going to have to make adjustments. Better its happening now than 2 years from now. We've got the coaching to do it, if he decides to listen-he'll still be elite.
  15. Hendricks went 7 6 3 3 1 3 with a 12/3 ratio.
  16. But when is enough? If you wait til signing deadline, the trade deadline is less than 3 weeks after that. Personally, I say lets go for it June 1st.
  17. Looking at who may wind up as sellers, or our competition, this is what I come up with. Toronto-But after going "all-in" I'm not sure how much they'd sell off, they may prefer to wait and see what happens if they were healthy, plus they'd be selling very low on some guys they just paid a premium for. White Sox- After Peavy, I'm not sure what they have that anyone would want. Twins- Maybe Willingham and Morneau. Correia has pitched decent enough to get a dumb GM to give up something maybe. Angels- Again, I just can't see them trying to sell though, even if they need to. Mariners- If they sell, Iwakuma seems like the only guy they'd move. Astros- Norris, maybe Altuve and Harrell? God, they suck. Mets- Ike Davis possibly? They really don't have much that makes sense to sell off. Marlins- Nolasco, maybe Stanton? Although my guess is they wait on him til the offseason. Brewers- Aramis, Weeks, Hart Dodgers- Honestly see them making a run once they're healthy, but they could deal Ethier, I guess. Pads- Maybe Headley and Quentin. Some bullpen possibly? I see everyone else either standing pat or trying to buy.
  18. Even though I know its wrong, I like having at least one lefty in the rotation. I'm sure they'd listen on him, but I can't imagine a team thinking this is the real him and overwhelming us enough to trade him. Of course, there are some stupid GMs out there, so maybe I'm wrong. But, I'd want a nice haul to move him. A top 100 SP prospect thats ready to pitch in the majors in 2014, another guy that has legit top 100 potential that is a ways away and one other top 15ish type from a normal system. Too much? Not enough? From our own team, it'd be like getting a healthy Vizcaino, Candelario, and Amaya or something like that. Hell, after looking at it though, I may want slightly more actually, but maybe I'm overvaluing Wood.
  19. Well, I'd like to see him extended, but that ship has probably sailed, since the reason you give someone an extension pre-arb is to get a nice discount. I think he'll have 4 arb years and with them starting next year, you'd be negotiating at a slight point of weakness. Not only is he pitching great, he's getting a nice raise next year under any circumstance. No, I don't see his current rate as being sustainable, but I do think its possible he could turn into something better than a back end type. If you buy out his arb years, you almost always try to get a FA year or two as well, so giving him a 5 or 6 year deal, unless its cheap, doesn't make a lot of sense. And I doubt he'd do it when he's pitching like this anyway.
  20. I guess the lack of K's keeps him from getting any pub, but Tayler Scott is having a very nice start to his season.
  21. Pretty slippery slope Boras has to navigate thru with 2 of the top 3 guys. You know Houston wants to know what it'd take to sign both of them. Same with us. Are their prices different? If you see Houston take Appel, for instance, at slot, but WOULD have taken Bryant at a mill under slot, the the Cubs take Gray, it leaves the Rockies with plenty of leverage on Bryant, or he could fall further and lose more money. Unless his guys go 1-2, I think one or the other could get screwed here. Just seems like a conflict of interest to represent both.
  22. Still early enough in season for Baez to turn it around, but I doubt he leaves many top 50 lists just because of the talent and he's still young. Most top guys are given at LEAST one mulligan, sometimes more than that. Its disappointing, no doubt, but I think it'll take more than this(at this stage) to drop him that far.
  23. Look at this again, after the season is over and I'm very certain your opinion will change. Between trades, the draft, and possibly even IFA, our pitching will look much, much better. No, we won't be catching the Cards anytime soon in this department. Everyone else though from a total organizational standpoint? I think we'll pass them by the beginning of the 2014 season. As for the prospects you listed, Jenkins won't be in the majors by 2015 for the Cards. Stephenson is a stud for Cincy but my guess is thats about his ETA. Corcino has less of a chance to stick than Vizcaino does and Travieso isn't remotely close to contributing by then. Cole and Taillon are studs, I'd love to have a pair of pitchers like that coming up. Heredia and Holmes are eons away. None of that group from the Brewers does anything for me, if any of those guys develop into anything more than a 4, at best, I'll be surprised.
