  1. Don't have Law's, but Sickels midseaaon is out too. Javy at 14, Almora at 18, Soler at 23, and AA at 57. New draftees weren't included.
  2. I'll be interested in seeing how much he actually signs for versus how much Garza makes in FA. If our financial situation keeps us from upping payroll this offseason, Gonzalez appears to be in the 4 or 5 year, 10-12 mill per, range. Which would basically replace Garza's 10.5 mill salary slot. At 26, if he DOES have frontline capabilities, he's a must-get for us, in my mind.
  3. Boston could be holding things up waiting on Buchholz, to see if he's healthy. Toronto is another possible holdup. They're 9 out of the 2nd WC, but have a 10 game homestand to begin the 2nd half, beginning with 3 against Tampa, who they may need to sweep in order to consider themselves buyers. They also have 3 against the Dodgers and 4 with the Astros. I was kind of hoping for a trade over the break, but those two teams could be holding us up, if they're possibly ready to send us something better than what we're getting from Texas or others.
  4. Hoffman is generating a bit of 1-1 buzz from Piliere today, hitting 98 in the 5th or 6th.
  5. In what could be something we factor into trading season, the competitive balance lottery was held today. Picks 32-37, in order, are Colorado, Baltimore, Cleveland, Miami, KC, and the Brewers. The 2nd rounders are San Diego, Arizona, Cards, Tampa, Pirates, and Mariners.
  6. Damn, thats risky, ala Vizcaino, but it'd be much better talent than I thought possible.
  7. Yeah, no clue what to believe anymore with our involvement on any of the IFA's. Hell, Keith Law mentioned recently that no one other than the Dodgers bid more than 10 mill for Puig.
  8. Dalier Hinojosa, another RHP, also cleared and eligible to sign. 27, throws in the 90's, has a slider and curve. Red Sox, Yanks, Dodgers, and us are linked to him.
  9. TR Sullivan, a Rangers beat writer, says Perez won't be dealt for Garza.
  10. No reason to be discouraged on Underwood at all. He doesn't turn 19 until the 20th of this month. Maples, on the other hand.....Ugh.
  11. According to Bowden, its Texas, Boston, Washington, Arizona, and Colorado as the teams on Garza, with Cleveland in to a lesser extent. Siting a source, he also says its 80-20 he's dealt before his next start.
  12. Don't remember the particulars, but if we keep him down until a certain date, we gain another year of control on him. Whatever it was, it made me think he'd stay in the minors for July and part of August.
  13. I have no idea how long it'd take to convert him, but if it was longer than half a season in the minors, I'd be surprised. What I meant was that it's not even his target destination necessarily. He's still trying to stick at SS, and the regime has said they see him as a 2b as much as a 3b. I don't see how you can pass on other 3b prospects because of a guy for whom 3b may not even be in his top two most likely positions. That comment was made prior to Alcantara putting himself in this position. And no, I'm not saying he's on Javy's level as a prospect, but I am saying if he looks like a legit starter himself, you find a way to get all of them in the lineup. Which would likely mean Javy goes to 3B. Again, this could change if AA is dealt, but I think its looking like both him and Javy will be given shots here before that happens.
  14. Look, I agree from that standpoint. But I think our owner may be near applying for wellfare and we need the youngsters to work out.(only half kidding)
  15. I have no idea how long it'd take to convert him, but if it was longer than half a season in the minors, I'd be surprised.
  16. Well, hey, as long you're being realistic in your expectations. Obviously prospects don't always work, but I'm a big believer in Javy. AA has done quite a bit this season to put himself squarely into our plans. Looking at Olt as a stopgap 3B and Valbuena as an everyday 2B for a year, year and a half doesn't seem all that unrealistic to me. Neither does trading Barney as he hits arbitration, considering his production.
  17. I think Bryant was unnecessary, as far as filling out an IF anyway. As I see Javy as our longterm 3B and Alcantara at 2B. That said, I could see Olt vetting a fulltime shot next year, with Valbuena moving over to 2B and Barney getting dealt.
  18. While it may not excite everyone, my guess is the holdup is trying to get Martin Perez in the deal. Personally, I'd be very happy if we somehow got him for half a season of Garza. Even moreso, if Olt or Jackson came along with him.
  19. Gonzalez cleared by OFAC. Could sign somewhere this week or next.
  20. Well, my guess is nothing goes down tonight or tomorrow, due to Selig not liking interruptions and all. I'll stick to my prediction that if its the Rangers, it'll be Olt, Luke Jackson, and Neil Ramirez.
  21. Think he was signed for 250-300k or so.
  22. Profar? Can't remotely see that. They insinuated Perez may still be on the table though. Depending on how you view Olt currently, a guy like Luke Jackson could be thought of a larger piece.
