  1. Not even counting the PTBNL, this is a damn good return. Edwards is likely to show up on a top 100 list or 2, Olt still has upside, and Grimm could slot into the back of the rotation longterm. Personally, maybe SNTS, but I'll have Edwards 6th on my Cubs prospect list, with the hope that Olt gets enough ML AB's to not have to try and rank.
  2. I'd like Leonardo Molina as well if we're going to take the sign everyone approach.. Encarnacion too. August 1st and 9th on those two I believe. I'd love it, but it seems like we changed course midstream on going all in. My guess is we upped our offer to Eloy, after Texas came in last minute with a huge offer. Encarnacion looks like he's headed to the Phils and Molina to the Yanks. But who knows, maybe we'd come in and pull a Texas with them. I would bet that we'll get a few late "pop up" types in the 500k+ range, late in the year and early into next season. By going over the max, the key is to gobble up as much as possible, since next year's restricted anyway. Hopefully another pitcher or two shows up on the radar.
  3. Did anyone say that had something to do with it? I thought it was reported he just loved Sosa as a kid. There's not a quote from Eloy or anything, but I'm at least going to think it had something to do with it. I do think it can easily be a deciding factor on guys where the offer is close. I do think I remember something about Eloy's parents valuing education though. The classrooms and all inside the academy surely couldn't have hurt with them.
  4. Awesome job building trust here. The new Academy is already paying off. That said, with us evidently ready to sign Tseng as well, I hope we aren't looking at IFA money as anything important to get in trades, since we're going to blow past the 15% overage as it is. As a throw in, to help lower our penalty is fine. I really, really want the 19 year old Cuban RHP(Leandro Linares) to be good enough to warrant a mill plus type bonus. He wouldn't be worth it for another team to go "all in" on, so our only competition could be Texas.
  5. Again, Underwood was considered raw to begin with and just turned 19 yesterday. I'd temper expectations on him for a while. He's a guy that likely is just going to take longer to develop.
  6. Are you drunk? Nah, when I posted that, he had just been removed and was hugging guys in the dugout, according to Twitter. But yeah, it was a stupid post and wish I had being hammered as a legit excuse.
  7. I can't imagine Texas is blowing other teams offers out of the water. If the deal was Edwards, Olt, and Ramirez, with one rumor adding Russell on our side and Sardinas on theirs, the value is very solid. Much more than a comp pick. Using our own system as a value guide(not necessarily same exact type players) I'd compare Edwards to Pierce Johnson, Olt to post 2012 Brett Jackson, Ramirez to Alberto Cabrera, and Sardinas to Candelario. I may be in the minority, but if it were that exact 4 for 2 swap, I would have been very happy. Surely another team is fairly close to that value as a return.....
  8. In connect the hugs, Alex Rios was removed in the 5th and hugs commenced. Alan Henson was removed around the same time. That'd be a nice return on Rios and it takes the Pirates off of Schierholtz, if this deal happens.
  9. I guess Ramirez seems likely to be the holdup. If we actually chose him over Jackson, maybe its a relatively easy fix. I'd love to wind up with Sardinas or Alfaro as the replacement, if the other 2 are Edwards and Olt.
  10. Sweet. Candelario and Amaya also have HR's. Amaya is on fire.
  11. They've got AJ Cole, who's a top 100 guy and Giolito, who's coming back from TJS. Outside of that, I'm not a fan.
  12. I seriously doubt Ramirez is the centerpiece. Hell, he hasn't even been scratched from his start yet tonight.
  13. how hard has he been throwing this season? FB sitting 90-94, touches 97.
  14. The Rangers Plan B could be Bud Norris. Of course, even with the extra control, he's not the same caliber of pitcher, in my opinion.
  15. He's just re-linking his post from 6 hours ago, which means the info is even older than that, as ridiculous as it sounds to call 6-8 hour old news irrelevant. Ah cool, I've been on a plane most of the day, so just getting caught up.
  16. Meanwhile, I agree completely with Craig. Edwards and Jackson is great value, getting Olt as a third piece would be just fine.
  17. Meanwhile, in Mooney's latest, he hears Rangers don't like Cubs asking price and are well down the road on Plan B......
  18. These comments would be funnier if they were getting less than 1 out of every 30 guys they went after. The dig isn't at them. Then I think I need a translation. Limited funds, perhaps?
  19. Sounds like he's throwing harder now and may have had some health issues his last few years in the league.
  20. Why do you say that? Because he's lazy, smug, and pedantic. If you spend so much time sarcastically harping on plate discipline, you should probably make at least passing mention to Baez's vastly improved walk rate or Almora hitting for an insane average. He's addressed the walk rate as too small of a sample to count on. You can nitpick any of the evaluators we get info from, but I think Law is easily one of the best, whether he's condescending or not towards people.
  21. Why do you say that? Because he's a colossal [expletive]? What exactly did he say in those reports that wasn't correct?
