  1. I dont know much about Cecchini. He has a weird offensive profile for a 3B, is that where he's gonna stay? Defensively, he's definitely able to stick at 3B. With Middlebrooks and Bogaerts ahead of him, he's probably got to hit for some power to play a corner OF spot in Boston.
  2. I like Zach Lee and Joc Pederson. LOVE Julio Urias, but no way in hell he's going anywhere. Chris Reed would be a solid 2nd piece to go with one of Lee or Pederson. Really like Seager, but he's not going anywhere either. This being said though, I don't see them trading actual prospects for a rental. They've said that already. In fact, Kasten said they've addressed the major league team about as much as they're going to for the near future and now its time for them to upgrade their minor league system.
  3. If the Cubs can get Tseng for 1.5(assuming Jimenez is 2.8), then acquire the max slot space they can, they'd be at the very upper end of the 10-15% penalty. Which is a 100% penalty on the money overage. Which would be under 700,000. They wouldn't be able to pay over 500,000 for a player next year either. Is that worth it? I'd be completely fine with spreading the money around next year, or even trading it away. That said, if you're already going this far, go all the way, and sign a couple more big bonus guys. This IFA class could be extremely memorable and I hope we're in "sign them all" mode.
  4. Awesome. Be interesting to see how they handle him the rest of the season.
  5. Replace Blach with Clayton Blackburn and I'm in.
  6. We're not getting our asking price obviously. I doubt they want to stretch this out. Between what happened last year, him throwing up a few clunker outings, and other pitchers entering the market, its time to do SOMETHING soon with him.
  7. Yeah, there would need to be a few other trades happen to set a real baseline. You guys are right, it wouldn't work otherwise.
  8. My guess is this: They planned to be in the 10% penalty range, but they had to pay Jimenez more than they had figured. Now, they'll just try and load up on as much as possible, to compensate for it. My guess(hope) is they'll spend double their allotment. Another possibility is they made the Torreyes trade to establish a general baseline for what space is worth, so they can then ask other teams for a specific return next year.
  9. According to Phil Rogers(yeah, sounds stupid to use him as an authority, but he mentioned this last week) the Cubs will blow by the spending limits this year, because they like the class better than next year. Next year, they'll take a quantity approach on pitching and look to possibly trade some of their space as well.
  10. I still don't know what that means. Obscure prospect lingo makes people sound really cool so just go with it. *spec lingo I have zero issue with #want, #rig, or any hashtag, scouting grades, etc.....But "spec" is a term I wish I'd never see again.
  11. Noticed this never got an answer. I'm not really positive either way on this, but I trust there are people here who would know for sure. Not positive, but I'm pretty sure he had another year. My guess is AZPhil has already done a post on it at TCR. This is a pretty light year for us, as far as guys we have to add. Alcantara being the main guy.
  12. Sweet. Taking the all in approach.
  13. PTBNL going each way as well. Arguello made a really solid point, just a minute ago. Says Cubs got a better individual player for Hairston, than the Marlins got for Nolasco. I think I'd agree actually.
  14. Maybe a Starling Peralta type. Just got moved to High A, will turn 22 in September.
  15. Cubs look at Lake to take Hairston's role next year, according to Heyman. Cubs are chipping in 500k of Hairston's remaining salary this year, but none next year.
  16. Not remotely related, but evidently Heyman used #HugeTits as a hashtag in an earlier tweet.
  17. Are you a DePaul graduate? Aren't they talking about building a casino or some [expletive]? Like selling it as a city convention center or something. No clue honestly. I haven't read anything on it at all. Obviously, it'd point towards you being right, if it is the case though. Still, it seemed like there was certainly momentum towards the Cubs getting money back before the Joe Ricketts-Obama crap.
  18. Are you a DePaul graduate?
  19. You're not getting a finally healthy and dealing Matt Purke for Scott Hairston. Oh, I know. I had forgotten he existed though until I started looking at their system. Solis seems like a best case scenario to me.
  20. Donnie Murphy was pulled from Iowa tonight after hitting a HR. Solid guess as to who's coming up.
  21. Solis turns 25 next month. Missing 15 months for TJS(and a recent DL stint for shoulder discomfort too) has really impeded his progress. He's still in High A. (or will be once his current rehab is finished). Purke is throwing low to mid 90's again and is also in High A for them.
  22. I think its TBD on which of Schierholtz or DeJesus is moved. But I do think one will be here next year.
  23. Yeah, that was a piece I was happy to have penciled in for next year. If it expedites Lake getting called up, I'll be interested. Even with the low BA though, he's not a guy I'd just dump.
