  1. I think there's probably a bit of weighing prospects chances in where to put Javy. You've got Olt, KB, and Villanueva, at 3B, all with the chances of being major league ready at the start of 2015. Meanwhile, only Alcantara is able to say the same at 2B. Probably not a giant reason, but I'd guess it plays into things a bit. At any rate, it's [expletive] awesome to have this many possibilities.
  2. I hate saying it, but I think Olt gets sent down for a bit. With the "when he comes up, he's staying" type attitude and comments about Javy-I could see them applying to Olt as well. No clue about his service time stuff, but between that and needing full time reps at 3B, while working thru his shoulder stuff.....I think there's enough excuses to send him to Iowa for a month or so. I hope I'm wrong.
  3. Well, if that isn't just about every Cubs conversation for three years in a nutshell. "X doesn't look too good." "Yeah, but if you include players who aren't here yet, it's *going* to be good" You know it's time for the season when Kyle has his first waffle of the year.
  4. Jon Daniels admitted he looked too much in the short term and the Garza deal could really give him nightmares. John Hart said he thought Theo/Jed picked Daniels pocket, even without CJ.
  5. I get what your saying, but between injuries, different defensive packages, and general competition, I think the rookies would find plenty of PT, if they're good enough. Plus, it really allows us to truly take BPA and not get pigeon holed into "needing" to spend an early rounder in a certain area.
  6. I still really like the pen. Who makes it at the beginning means very little. Parker is going to contribute, Vizcaino will as well. Ramirez and Rivero can too. It's highly unlikely the original group of 7 wind up being the 7 biggest contributors. The pen will be just fine.
  7. So, the pen is Veras, Strop, Russell, Wright, and either 2 or all 3 of Grimm, Rondon, and Cabrera. Dependent upon whether Rusin or Villanueva gets the 5th starter spot.
  8. Yeah, he's going to be so pricey, I'm not all that enthused. I'd love to get him, just don't think we'll be able to outbid the true heavy hitters. I hate saying that too. Masterson though, I think we'll get him.
  9. NFLTradeRumors has a blurb mentioning Ihedigbo may be deciding between the Lions and the Bears. He's evidently changed agents or is in the middle of that. Which could be why he's so late in signing. At any rate, he'd be an excellent addition, if we haven't filled our FA S quota.
  10. This year is going to be extremely interesting. I want to say I don't give a [expletive] about wins this year, but we have too many guys that can contribute this year that are possible long term pieces for me to say it. Castillo, Castro, Rizzo, Lake, Kalish, Olt, Ruggiano Shark, Wood, Arrieta, Rusin Strop, Rondon, Parker, Vizcaino, Cabrera, Grimm Javy, Villanueva, Alcantara, Szczur, Bryant, God forbid either Brett or Vitters Hendricks, Rivero, Rosscup, Ramirez It's just way too many guys to not care at least somewhat about wins in 2014. Because if things go to form, quite a few of these guys will get chances this year. Maybe not KB, even if he's great in the minors, but the rest will definitely have a shot if they perform in AAA. Add that to the guys that are already here and this is easily the most important year of the new regime's to date.
  11. To be fair to him, he did this last year too and then came back strong (check out the first 5 pages of this thread). Of course he's a pitcher blah blah blah. But it seems like he started last year off great from a stats perspective. Was his velo down then too? I know he had dips last year, but it's yet to go up at all this year, unless I'm missing something. I'm one of the few here that wants a pitcher, all things being equal this year. Any red flags on Rodon that he can change soon, I'm all for it. But the velo thing is disturbing obviously.
  12. Wow, unless his velo comes back, I think Rodon not only makes it to us, but past us.
  13. I think Drew will get a longer deal, if he waits. Not at 14 mill per, but I can see him getting 3/30 or so, once the compensation is lifted. That said, I don't understand why teams are trying to sign these guys on one year deals. If I'm going to lose my first round pick, I'd rather get a long term fix out of it myself.
  14. Morales is still talking to Seattle, so he's got a shot at signing before the draft. But I can't see anyone giving up a pick for him, unless Baltimore found room, since it'd be a late pick. I think Drew is going to wait it out and sign after the draft. Unless Detroit gets desperate quick, after Romine sucks.
  15. Turner's stuff hasn't rebounded, has it? If he's going to be considered a back end of the rotation type, I'd honestly rather hold on to Vogelbach. Use him as a 2nd or 3rd piece to acquire more of a top end type. If Turner's stuff is back though, he's an ideal guy to get obviously. I think he's more of a 90-91 type now though, without the control to be elite, pitching at that velo.
  16. My guess is its just a favor to get him with a west coast team. Why he'd get accommodated? Last name is my only guess. Even if it doesn't seem right. Still, I don't really care, he's far from good.
  17. It's not that. I keep forgetting he's on the team when doing this.
  18. Isn't an 800 OPS really good these days? I had the same thought. Seems pretty ambitious. Yeah, .800 is pretty damn good these days. Somewhere between .750-.775 maybe? At any rate, I think he could have the highest of anyone currently in our ML OF picture.
  19. Nude pics of his sister coming back our way.
  20. What in the actual hell? I didn't see this here. Possible we just gave him away? It's not like he's got value on his own.
  21. Either we've made a trade or we gave Trevor Gretzky to the Angels, as he's being wished luck with his new team.
  22. Why do people insist on inventing false choices? This isn't a game of Sophie's choice. They've intentionally decided not to try when they very well could have done both. You still clinging to your idea that finances aren't playing into anything? Oh my. This blanket excuse that somehow financial pressures outside of their own making forced themselves on the team is ridiculous. The Cubs chose to be very bad for a few years. They actively chose that path. It was a decision made by the powers that be. Some people are fine with their favorite team losing a lot. Some people try to convince themselves they are fin with it. Others find it annoying. I've assumed we're in the same general age range. I'm 39. The Cubs have sucked the vast majority of my 32 years of fandom. If it means sucking a few more years before that changing, I'm fine with it. All I want is for us to be able to use our large market like large market teams do, to gain every advantage we can. Ricketts can't do that currently. I'm not sure why anyone disputes that, at this point. He may not use it once he has it, but that's TBD. So in the meantime, I'm not getting worked up over our current ML situation, when there are certainly rays of light starting to show very soon.

You still clinging to your idea that finances aren't playing into anything? Oh my. What does finances have to do with anything? Your post is [expletive] ridiculous. If they don't have the money they don't have a choice. So no decision needed to be made. So did they have a choice or not? Uh, are you really asking if finances play into whether its possible to turn a bad team into a good one? Thanks for proving my point.
