  1. Good. [expletive] the NFL for doing this. It's disgusting that TMZ is doing a better job being journalists than all the bootlicks on NFL beats for national outlets. Seriously. I can already see Goodell squirming.
  2. Cubs signed an IF named Fidel Mejia for 250k.
  3. I honestly doubt they spend 50 mill this offseason unless they see payroll being able to move past the 100 mill area prior to 2020. And I think the only reason that'll be the case is if we see enough of an attendance spike, that it gives us an extra 10-20 mill to use over that timeframe.
  4. He's done this at every level. Usually struggles bigtime for around 150 at bats. With this being the highest level, I'd give it double that personally. But my honest guess is he'll bust out before the end of this season. That said, he's going to be an extreme hot and cold guy, ala Soriano, for his career. Maddening at times, carries you by himself at others. I'm not worried at all about him.
  5. I was a Star Wars nerd as a kid and wound up making lots of Star Wars for memorabilia trades in my late teens. As far as memorabilia goes, I bought an absolute [expletive] ton of stuff from a place called Sports Card Heaven(or Haven) out of Florida in my college years. And one day I got my SCD in the mail and they were the lead story for selling fraudulent [expletive] lol. Were actually caught by Dan Marino at a show.
  6. I remember trading a kid a box of commons for Sandberg 1984 Topps, Donruss, and Fleer rookie cards. Our door bell rang and it was the kids mom. With my box of commons, telling my grandparents her son had taken advantage of me and she was making him undo the deal. This was in 1990. When Sandberg's cards were worth 20-40 dollars or so. My grandparents attempted to reason with the woman, saying I was happy with the deal, but she was adamant that 500 cards were worth more than 3 cards. I was thinking this was the lady's way of getting back the valuable cards, until she finally decided to halve the box of commons between us, with me keeping the Sandbergs.
  7. Growing up in the 80's, I collected cards, as did most of my friends. But it didn't take me long to turn to memorabilia and vintage cards. I don't collect anymore really, but if I see something cool, I'd still buy it. But [expletive] all this new stuff that comes out at a higher value than it ever will be again. I've got no idea why people want that stuff.
  8. I've got the 30th spot on my top 30 earmarked for him just based on potential, but I understand if others won't rank him. Based on potential and recovery from TJS, he'd be at the very top of this list for me. But he's got to show it obviously.
  9. I saw somewhere today Olt will be playing 1B when he comes back.
  10. My honest guess at the Nix outcome is they sign him but lose the amount of overage they gave him off next years total pool amount.
  11. Hate seeing him likely miss the rest of the season, but great bounce back year from him. Just get him and Rizzo healthy for next year, they both had great seasons.
  12. I'm thinking the rise in attendance could unfortunately go towards the renovation, as a worst case scenario. Until PTR proves otherwise, I have a hard time upping payroll without a TV deal. And yes, one big FA SP and Stanton is doable, but it doesn't leave room for much else, in my opinion. I think we'll be needing more than one SP addition personally and still don't feel comfortable in dealing one of our big 4, as each of them has the ability to put up as much WAR as him over the next 8-10 years. Not saying each or even any of them do-but they have the ability to and I AM comfortable with each of them being productive long term, just not necessarily at that level. If he's attainable using Starlin and prospects from Almora on down-Im all for it. If not, I truly think we're going to have the best offense in MLB without him and we should focus our available funds on pitching. Again, not trading from the elite guys(or even Starlin, when it comes to pitching)
  13. The main reason I'm not falling all over myself for Stanton is simply money. Our payroll may very well be stuck at around 100 mill until after 2019. I'd rather take the chances with what we have(and I like our chances a lot) with the offense we've already got in tow, spending big money on ONE FA SP and using pieces to acquire another good SP via trade. And if you project money out until 2020, unfortunately it's about all we can afford. Stanton is going to be getting 25 mill + after 2016. If I thought we were capable of spending 125 mill prior to 2020, I'd be much more in favor of Stanton.
  14. Underwood Zastryzny Sands Stinnett Mejia Blackburn Clifton Black Torrez Steele Paniagua Pineyro Martinez Skulina Norwood With Williams and Pugliese not worth ranking
  15. I interpret that Theo comment to mean we're not adding a high dollar OF next year. I've seen an article mention we were looking for a DeJesus type-mentor, can play multiple positions, lefty, etc.....Personally, it seems a bit redundant to me since we've got Coghlan, Ruggiano, and Sweeney. But(even with my trade Valbuena stance yesterday), this lineup makes sense. C Castillo with competition or an upgrade 1B Rizzo 2B Javy SS Castro 3B Valbuena LF KB CF Alcantara RF Soler When Russell is ready, I'm unsure how they move guys around, but it's not unheard of to keep him in AAA all of next year as it is either. Especially since that lineup can be ridiculously good next year.
  16. As you most likely know, they're worth more individually. Not to mention, if one is dealt rather soon, it doesn't look quite right anyway.
  17. No clue what utility guys are out there, but I feel rather confident one can be had. It's not like the 1-2 WAR from Valbuena has to be lost. I hope we get one *and* keep Valbuena, keeping Watkins and Olt in Iowa. No one expects either of those 2 to be much, but you're going to Hendry away money for no reason at all. I listed 4 pitchers I'd use Valbuena as part of a deal for. As TT said, it's not exactly like there's a ton of guys to even consider. But we could sign Lester, trade Valbuena and something that doesn't hurt us to deal, for Porcello, and go sign a backup IF. The team is much better off that way than sitting on Valbuena and just adding Lester to the rotation.

  19. He seems to get across to the players very well. Not thrilled with his in game managing at times, but I'm OK overall with him.
  20. Wittenmyer says Olt may still make it back, just needs to get healthy. Beeler reached innings limit.
  21. Olt was taking grounders the other day, I guess he's just not ready. Sucks for him. I would have thought Beeler would come back up, not that it matters. I was expecting Rivero, but I understand the need for the extra roster spot this winter. The only guys I see getting non- rostered are Rusin, Vitters, and Valaika.
  22. Bourn or Swisher for E-Jax? Arguello mentioned them and Cleveland needs innings eaters. I think I'd be in favor of either.
  23. Yeah, I had a Porcello deal in mind. Same with Eovaldi, Duffy, and Hutchison. Personally, I look at them as upgrades from anyone other than Arrieta for us longterm. And in each case, they'd help out in 2015.
  24. you probably won't want to compare Olt's stats to Baez's so far You're better than that. you should know that i've wanted Baez traded like a hundred times by now, if he's being viewed as future superstar by other teams is it also not worth mentioning that the scourge of baseball, Junior Lake, had better offensive production Oops, didn't think it went thru first time.
