  1. you probably won't want to compare Olt's stats to Baez's so far You're better than that. you should know that i've wanted Baez traded like a hundred times by now, if he's being viewed as future superstar by other teams is it also not worth mentioning that the scourge of baseball, Junior Lake, had better offensive production Ah OK. Yeah, we're just in different worlds with Javy.
  2. you probably won't want to compare Olt's stats to Baez's so far You're better than that.
  3. Toronto, Detroit, KC, and Muami are the 4 teams I've got in mind for Valbuena.
  4. What team is making this deal that wouldn't prefer another prospect over Valbuena? 300-350 at-bats of him is worth 1-2 wins. We should be aiming for a season next year where 1-2 wins is very important. Am I advocating dealing him for trash or guys that aren't contributing next year?
  5. I'm sorry, but no one has said to trade Valbuena in a one for one deal. A package of Valbuena and others starting from Almora on down can definitely add pitching that's better than what we have. And I'm sorry, but it's not exactly a fantasy to think that between Javy, Castro, KB, and Russell-we've got our longterm answers at 2B, SS, and 3B. If I were bringing up the Olts or Villanuevas of the world, then sure. Valbuena holds value for us, there's no question. But I'm not keeping him because I'm scared of a future injury. He's going to be lucky to get 300-350 at bats next year. His value is never going to be higher than now, if its POSSIBLE to trade him and prospects for pitching, I hope like hell we do it. If not, I've obviously got no issue keeping him, because he IS good insurance. But I'm confident enough that our infield is going to be good without him, so if he can help net a good pitcher, then I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  6. So we make the MLB team worse because we're scared to weaken the farm system. Lovely. You've got some sort of fixation with backup infielders, I guess. Because that's what he is for US going forward. Is that his trade value? No. He's worth more than that. Which puts us in a great position to deal him and upgrade somewhere other than our fifth infielder spot.
  7. You're literally terrified Theo is going to build a completely home grown lineup. As for the clutching pearls comment I assume is directed at me-Im perfectly fine trading prospects. But trading top 5-10 in baseball prospects? [expletive] no. We can trade from Almora on down and do very well there.
  8. Valbuena is good. I'm not saying he can be dealt one for one in a deal for a young pitcher that has impact potential. But he can be PART of a deal for one. Scary to deal for pitching? Sure. But we're going to do it at some point.
  9. I've seen nothing on his defense this year, but he was definitely not considered a strong defender at the time of his signing, most seemed to think he'd wind up at 2B.
  10. Well, as long as no infielder ever gets hurt or needs a day off, then who cares if we downgrade the 5th infield spot from Luis Valbuena to Logan ".550 OPS waiting to happen" Watkins? We've got to get out of this loser mentality where we hate having anything good on the roster that isn't a fun prospect. Yeah, because Watkins is the only option for us next year. If Valbuena can be part of a package that nets us a good starting pitcher, it needs to be done. That's more important than a 5th infielder.
  11. We're evidently targeting a veteran OF. Which makes sense, as KB will be moving to the OF soon. But I fully expect him at 3B next year and then we get Russell/Castro/Javy as our 2B/SS/3B in some form beginning full time in 2016. I don't expect any of that group to be dealt.
  12. Valbuena is NOT a starter for us next year. Not unless something's gone wrong anyway. I'd much rather trade him than one of our top prospects.
  13. If we did decide to move Valbuena, the return should be extremely interesting. Wada too. It'd be nice to keep all our major prospects and somehow get a very nice pitcher thru trade using those two and a Vogelbach type prospect.
  14. As iffy as some of Renteria's in game moves have been, it's a nice asset that he's bilingual.
  15. Welcome! That's not too far off from my list. But I definitely have Mejia and Blackburn in and Amaya and Martinez out. Probably won't have Black in either, at the expense of one of our newly drafted arms. If reports look REALLY good on them, Caratini misses as well.
  16. To me, the answer is a resounding "yes". But I doubt it's likely, for the factors already mentioned. I'd personally look to do the same for Alcantara and Javy as well, with the "team friendly" part being very important.
  17. I still think Zunino is an All Star in waiting. Just rushed and evidently more attainable than a young C with his upside should be. Zunino and Ackley for Castillo, Wada, and McKinney? No clue how to value Wada. If he finishes out the year as strong as what he's done to date.....Regardless of his age, he's a lefty with another pre-arb year left that's a fairly solid 4/5 option. That'd have to hold a fair amount of value, right?
  18. Raw, they don't. I just threw him out there since they do have a solid amount of pitching and he's hitting arb. OTOH-lets figure out something with the Mariners......Zunino, Ackley, Austin Jackson, Paxton or Walker......They've got to be the ideal team for us to make a deal with. And Jack Z got an extension too, so time to take advantage of the feeble minded, Theo.
  19. I've seen lefty, veteran, on base type, and lead off hitter all mentioned.... Carl Crawford for E-Jax, with Dodgers eating most or all of the difference seems to fit nicely. All the way down to him playing LF, leaving Alcantara in CF next year.
  20. Grandal for Wada and Strop Alex Cobb for Almora and Hendricks
  21. Can't agree on Valbuena or Alcantara being expendable. Valbuena especially is an ideal utility guy. Nor are any of the relievers expendable. As you said, it's opening a hole to fill a different one. I'd rather keep Alcantara. Valbuena has serious value to us as well moving forward. Obviously I'm not selling low on them, if I were to deal either. Rondon? I love the guy. With his injury history, possible shot at selling very high? Again, not advocating it, just wondering if that's not possible. The other pen guys I mentioned, we can replenish from within or thru FA.
  22. The holes we have- C, OF, SP Excess or tradeable parts anyway- Coghlan, Valbuena, Ruggiano, Alcantara, Olt, Wada, Wood, E-Jax, Rondon, Strop, Wright, all minor leaguers outside of KB and Russell.
  23. I've got no idea how SD values Grandal, but with Rivera playing well and Hedges coming soon, I've got to figure Grandal can be had. Stealing from TT, maybe a deal starting with Wada? Send them Olt if he plays better in September. For young pitching, I keep looking at Tampa, but them trading for Franklin complicates things a bit.
  24. Great idea for the thread, TT. I'm not a fan of the Alcantara deal, even though I've been scouring for a basic swap of him for a pitcher myself and can't come up with one. Love the Coghlan/Murphy swap. Makes sense for both teams.
  25. http://ajw.asahi.com/article/behind_news/sports/AJ201408310020 I think this MAY qualify.
