  1. My feeling currently is the same unfortunate one I always have when going after big names: No shot whatsoever from the time we're first mentioned, up until the day they're rumored to sign. Where I get optimistic enough to where it hurts when they go elsewhere.
  2. Liriano hasn't pitched more than 162 innings since 2010. I'm perfectly fine with him going elsewhere.
  3. I actually prefer Montero at 3/40 over Martin at 5/82 or whatever he got, by quite a bit.
  4. If we trade [expletive] Dallas Beeler today to free up a roster spot, they'll take credit for "something" happening.
  5. I've always been under the impression Arguello knows a few area scouts and Loxas, who I think works at a high end restaurant, gets his info from Cubs affiliated people that eat there. In neither case do I think they know guys high enough up the food chain to where their info should be taken seriously. Has Marlin said anything of note recently?
  6. I hope like hell we're talking to Billy about Sonny Gray.....
  7. ESPN fell for the fake Rosenthal account.
  8. Stewart said he hasn't spoken to the Cubs since the morning.
  9. Here we go! Geez, get the hopes up, only to see the Dodgers get him for 5 billion or some [expletive].
  10. Maybe not, but maybe they just aren't willing to go higher? If you wind up going after Shields or Scherzer, is the loss of a 2nd round pick worth 10 mill?
  11. They've brought up the Nats before with the Werth signing signaling its time to compete and you might have to overpay to get that initial large piece. My honest guess is money won't be why we lose Lester(if we do). Personally, I don't have a realistic number I'd be out on. If it takes 7/175, I'd gulp, but I'd do it, if necessary. I hope we're ready to do that.
  12. 3/30 sounds in the right range. He pitched very well for us too, Im fine with him coming back. Definitely want a guy better than him, but as long as he's the 2nd guy, that's fine.
  13. I thought it got pushed from "before" to "likely during" at this stage.
  14. Anything from the guy who has a family connection? Or did he get ran off?
  15. Sounds like SOMETHING is going on anyway. Beane can pull the trigger on anything, so here's hoping we're dealing for Sonny Gray....
  16. I would too. I doubt it'd keep them away from Lester though damnit.
  17. One of the A's beat writers says they're finishing up a trade involving Shark, where they're getting several players back and they're targeting hitters..... Any chance we're trading back for him?
  18. As someone who was raised 20 minutes outside Asheville and within an hour of Greenville, I'd LOVE to hear how those two places are the same.
  19. Good God, this is a shitty as [expletive] 3 minute period of breaking news.
  20. If we CAN get him, his rep with pitchers can't hurt us with Lester.
  21. As for La Stella being a more valuable asset, I think that's pretty obviously true. Why did the slots go with Vizcaino and not the other way around if it wasn't? The slots were useless to us. We were capped, not being able to sign anyone over 250,000. We were well under our limits and not likely to spend much more this spending period, so they were disposable.
