  1. That's the mid-year of their fifth season. Don't hurt yourself bending over to set the bar that low. Come on, we don't need to go through all that [expletive] again. If we're a consistent playoff team from 2016 moving forward, I'm happy enough. With the only caveat being if we don't win a WS during the regime, it's still a failure to me.
  2. To me, Lester has the cleaner history of the two, will come cheaper and won't cost us a pick under any scenario. Which is why he's my clear cut favorite of the two. Not that I'd complain whatsoever if we added Scherzer.
  3. I'm surprised at the near universal positivity about an interview where Theo left 15 outs for the FO should we fail to spend money this offseason I'm not going to go bat [expletive] crazy if Lester gets 7/175 and Scherzer gets 8/200 and we miss. It just puts more pressure on us the following deadline and/or offseason to get some things done. On the other hand, as silly as those prices on Lester and Scherzer may appear-if we did pay that to get one if them-I'm not going to complain either. So ... no failure conditions. Epstein has done such an amazing job grooming this fanbase. No, there is failure in my eyes. And that's if we haven't added 2 frontline starters by the trade deadline of 2016. My guess is we add one each year, but I'm not going to throw a fit if it doesn't work out that way.

  5. Seriously, I'm basically to that point too.
  6. @AndrewCieslak: Box score says Castro left a guy on base. Just left him there. Who knows if he's sick. He's stuck now. Castro selfishly deserted him.
  7. They explicitly said the same thing prior to the season too. Not before they missed on Tanaka, is all I'm saying. This past offseason was the first that they actually brought up having money left over.
  8. By the way, this is the first time they've said they DID leave money on the table. Previously, they had mentioned that IF there was, it'd get spent at a later date. But they had mentioned they had spent their budget prior to this past offseason.
  9. Yeah we did. But unless we find out otherwise, I'm just figuring Hammel and Bonifacio ate into the Tanaka savings and that just helped replenish it.
  10. Theo mentioned having the rollover money to spend today, if its needed.
  11. Rob Kaminsky, if he's pitching for Peoria. Carson Kelly was a 2nd rounder for them, he's worth looking at, I guess. He's a C now, which I didn't know. Glancing at Beloit's roster, I didn't see anything.
  12. In my head, when starting this post, I used..... Wood-5 Strop-1.8 Wright-1.750 Ruggiano-2.6 Valbuena-3 Arrieta-4.75 Castillo-2.75 Doubront-1.5 Vizcaino-.750 Coghlan-1.1
  13. PTR is in McCourt territory payroll-wise in some ways. They had a cost-controlled team of Martin, Loney, Ethier, Kemp, Broxton, Billingsley, Kershaw and others and never spent on a CC, Cliff Lee, or whoever else was out there to help put them over the top back then.
  14. I'm not necessarily all in on Martin, but this is so silly. We hope this guy in A ball can stick at catcher so we're going to resist upgrading the position until we know if he can handle it in 2-3 years. Nah, it's not that as much as whether they think Castillo is a viable stopgap until then. With the possibility of adding competition thru trade for him that doesn't require the monetary funds it'd take to get Martin. No clue what they're opinion on Castillo is now, which is why I brought up Martin to begin with.
  15. I'm trying to remember, but isn't the CSN half only 200k more per game than the WGN half? If so, short of a true totally renegotiated monster deal prior to when the CSN part is done-Im just not seeing it being worth more than an extra 5-10 mill per year for now.
  16. http://sports.cbslocal.com/show/670-the-score/ Quick snippet from Theo. They're very high on Hendricks and are looking at Schwarber as a C, which could cenceivably knock Martin out of the equation, assuming he'll get a 3-4 year deal. TT, I don't see the Tanaka money as upping our payroll, I agree on it going to a posting fee or like I mentioned earlier, towards an IFA spending spree possibly.
  17. If we DID, I think we'd use up both our 1st and 2nd round slot and get 2 guys. But I think the possibility is very slim we do that THIS year. Making Lester the clear cut favorite addition out of the really big names. I think we get outbid on Lester, and wind up with a Hammel type. I'm expecting payroll around 80-85M with a promise that money was held back for midseason additions if we contend. I can see that, I'm just hoping for a better outcome than that. Still, adding 30 mill of talent to what we have is intriguing, as I don't see them frittering it away like Hendry would.
  18. Between the OF and C, are you seeing 2 starters? Probably not. The OF will be a tweener type who doesn't mind not starting every day, and there are never any good Cs so mineaswell keep Castillo there. Not a Martin fan?
  19. Theo mentioned it again yesterday at least. He's fighting to keep it anyway.

  21. I see no way we spend that kind of money Really? Goony brings up a good point on the IFA's, but Kiley has kind of brought it up already, so I think it's a distinct possibility. Or using it as the posting fee for Maeda. But a signing of Lester or Scherzer and one of Markakis or Martin basically spends the vast majority of 40-45 mill as it is. You think our payroll for next year is going to be ~$170 million? (55m commit, 100 mil added, ~15 mil rollover savings from Tanaka)? No, 100 mill TOTAL, plus the Tanaka savings. Meaning 45-50 mill max of spending ability, plus the Tanaka money.

  23. Yasmani Grandal would be a nice buy low catcher, if we go the trade route, in my opinion.
