  1. It seems possible we could still have the top system in baseball even after Javy(and Alcantara) have graduated.
  2. @billazbbphotog: Carson Sands & Justin Steele both need 1 more 3-inn outing to qualify for AZL top 20 list in @BaseballAmerica. Difficult decisions ahead.
  3. God, we're going to love that trade.
  4. I'll believe Rosenthal and just hope he's wrong somehow.
  5. It'll be interesting how any contract gets structured with him, since this season is basically over(and IS for us, the Red Sox, and Phillies). So this year almost definitely has to be structured to make much less, right? Or use a signing bonus to even things out? I'd think the Cubs would want an extra year possibly in a situation like this, unless they prefer going shorter term, like the A's did with Cespedes.
  6. We need an OFer. I prefer him based on age and his ability to play multiple positions. We've got plenty of money to spend too, so that's not an excuse. The FA market is awful, basically Melky or Markakis, if Baltimore lets him get away. I'd take the risk here, money be damned.
  7. Elbow inflammation and teams figure Texas has no interest in dealing him, I guess.
  8. Tseng has a WHIP of .70 over his last 70 innings and has allowed 18 base runners over his last 30 and 2/3 innings.
  9. http://obstructedview.net/uncategorized/dont-say-the-cubs-never-listen-to-you.html So, did you guys ask for this?
  10. Here's my list of young major league pitching I'd like to trade for.... Gausman, Cobb, Archer, Hutchison, Stroman, Kluber, Bauer, Duffy, Ventura, Gray, Walker, Fernandez, Teheran, Wheeler,Harvey, DeGrom, Cole, and Corbin. Some have injuries currently, so they're not ideal. In going after anyone from this group, Im taking the best guy that can be had for Alcantara and/or Almora. If that's none of them, just stick to FA. Or Hamels if that backfires.
  11. still not used to that phrase Good point. I clarified it.
  12. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/how-pitchers-are-pitching-to-javier-baez/ Good stuff from Jeff Sullivan on how guys are pitching Javy.
  13. Keep in mind for the Yankees to match a 50 mill offer, they're paying 75 mill with their luxury tax hit.
  14. I still don't think we're going to trade one of those guys though. Alcantara and/or Almora seem to be the most likely to be dealt, in my opinion.
  15. That's 4 years of control. How long do you expect a trade acquisition to be signed for? Crap. Can't read. I'd be fine with 4 years.
  16. FWIW, Harvey hits arb next year, has Boras as his agent and almost definitely is hitting FA. With him coming off TJS next year, he's far from an ideal guy to trade for.
  17. Wheeler is electric, but he's one injury away from setting the franchise back a bit after losing Castro. I think it makes sense for both sides to fill their holes through free agency. There are plenty of starting pitchers and shorstops available for only money this winter. Lester, Scherzer, Shields, Liriano, Maeda, etc for us and Hardy, Lowry, Hanley for them. Makes more sense for each organization than giving up Starlin and Wheeler. They are available for "only money," but in the case of some of those names it will be a [expletive] load of money (like 25% of the Cubs' present payroll capacity), so if someone like Scherzer or Lester signs and then blows out his elbow or shoulder, that's a pretty big problem. Our lineup may already be set though. What else is there to spend it on? We damn near HAVE to take a shot on an older ace to even get our payroll past 80 mill this year, unless we Hendry the [expletive] out of the offseason, squandering 10 mill on backup position players, 10 mill on the pen, and get 2 guys who are starters for 10 mill or so. And that's not at all what I see happening.
  18. Nothing will be decided until there's a ruling on his grievance, which may take a few more weeks, according to one article. That said, we don't even know exactly what they're asking for IN the grievance. Which could also lend itself to not making his decision known immediately.
  19. http://nypost.com/2014/08/17/mets-have-pitching-cubs-hitting-so-why-hasnt-a-deal-happened/ Decent Joel Sherman piece, mentioning Mets would have to give up more than a one for one of Wheeler or Syndergaard for Starlin.
  20. The rumor Mooney mentioned was Castro/Wheeler. Which I wouldn't feel comfortable with, but would understand it, I guess.
  21. Szczur getting his sink or swim shot audition apparently.
  22. Vogelbach and Contreras HR
  23. Love Tree. But this thread has some serious ass suck to it. This is cubs.com type [expletive].
