  1. Why? He turned down the QO and was pretty consistent over the last 3 seasons from a peripheral standpoint.
  2. Monetarily, its decent value. We've still got the ability to add a major piece.
  3. Value-wise, I think its fair on all levels. I could see Arizona just saying no to dealing Pollock this year though. I could also see Atlanta just deciding they can't deal both of Miller/Teheran heading into the season, even with them tanking. But value is there on all sides.
  4. Theo made it sound like he still expects to sign and trade for a starting pitcher.
  5. Good.
  6. There's an article on Carrasco's trade value today on Fangraphs. Brings up Javy/Soler for Carrasco/Chisenhall with the likelihood there'd be a few other pieces.....
  7. And Tim Brown is saying we're hot after Lackey, discussing two and three year deals.
  8. Anyone with BA able to give us anything interesting in part two(pitching) of the Cuban article that Badler put out today? Badler said on Twitter he expects Cubs to sign at least one of them.
  9. I kind of doubt it'll take 100(even with the 20M fee) on Maeda. That said, depending on how fast the SP's start signing, I kind of hope we don't wait for him. The process takes 4-5 days(I think) and we don't know yet WHEN he's getting posted.
  10. 18 is the AAV for Shark evidently. One team is at 5 years. I guess I'd be OK at 5/90 on him. But I think I'd pass and wait for one of the others to find a better deal(or make a trade). Finding money for Heyward/Gordon may be tough after a deal like that for Shark.
  11. https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftorosdetijuana.com%2Fcolumnasid.php%3Fid%3D151%26fb_comment_id%3D978180912234799_995867257132831%23f5087cbc244752&edit-text= Here's a bit on Jose Albertos, the RHP we signed from Mexico. No bonus amount listed, but it says it's the 3rd highest in firm's(?) history. Don't know whether that means league, team, or what. At any rate, the interesting part here is saying that scouts that saw him placed him in the top 3 talents of Latin America, including Dominicans and Venezuelans. So, both he and Paredes seem to be guys we may have lucked into with lotsof teams not scouting Mexico heavily.
  12. I thought after Price, Greinke would sign quick and we'd see a few more fall off the board too(including a Cubs signing/trade. Oh well, we're just a few days away now.
  13. Alvarez will get decent money from an AL team. 7-10 mill maybe? I'm not thinking Middlebrooks is getting a major league deal at this stage.
  14. Am I wrong in thinking we can still release Richard up until a certain date without having to pay him anything? If I'm right, we locked him in to at least give us time to sort thru some more of the off season.
  15. Man, he'd fit us great. It'd probably be a mess trying to fit him in at 2B with the timing unknown as to when he'd be available and us likely out of money by then. But I guess it could happen.
  16. So we wound up non tendering Ryan Cook and DFA'd Leathersich as well. Came to an agreement with Richard. Henderson Alvarez was non tendered. Just had shoulder surgery, supposed to be ready by June.
  17. The issue isn't whether you are "happy" to let him opt-out after the three years. The issue is whether that scenario is *good enough* to balance out the downside of being stuck with him if he isn't. Didn't Cameron or someone put a 20 mill value on it? Edit- I guess for me, if its a player I feel I've got to have, I'd gladly give in to a deal like that in the end.
  18. If I'm buying a pitcher for 7/210 and he's 30 years old at the outset......I'm happy to let the guy opt out after 3 years. 1)that means he's pitched his ass off for me and 2) odds are against him continuing to do so over the final 4 years. I'll take the 3 years of production(conceivably in win-now mode) and the financial flexibility afterwards to grab a younger good pitcher or whatever else may be my biggest need at that point.
  19. Saw this bumped. Just binge watched Schwarbers bomb(and the Pittsburgh one) and Javys bomb for the last 30 minutes or so. As awful as TBS announcing was, I honestly think the Schwarber scoreboard HR call is my favorite of all time. Mercy.....What in the world?
  20. Neftali Feliz was non tendered, weren't we trying to get him when he was DFA'd during the season? At any rate, I'd like to see us take a chance with him.
  21. The Red Sox didn't get an appreciable discount because he didn't want to go there and they paid up knowing that.
  22. I hadn't even thought of Upton. I wonder how much they'd eat on his deal?
  23. My guess is its Arizona going to 100 on Shark.
  24. If Shark is getting 100 and we can only give out 1 deal of that magnitude, I'm out. I'd much prefer Heyward and I'd rather have Gordon than Shark as well. Drop down to Leake, Chen, or even Lackey.
  25. Thanks for the video. I just wish we had an actual list of signers.....Not even a full list, just one with mid six figure bonuses and up. Morel getting 800K and never even seeing a mention of him is the first time I can remember that happening with us.
