  1. I have no idea what teams are still after the upper end guys, but I don't really want to see Cueto wind up in LA or STL. But I'd rather have that than either of them on Heyward, so [expletive] it.
  2. "Top" closer being the true caveat here, I could see Arguello being right that its Doolittle.....Could also mean that Rondon may be needed in another trade, I guess?
  3. Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick 1m1 minute ago #Cubs are actively exploring a trade for one of the top closers, baseball sources say. WTF??????
  4. Was that confirmed? I read somewhere they MAY technically be able to do something like that.....But I read it more in the same vein I read Theo saying we had to get super creative to do two big moves. Was there something else?(I definitely think they're adding one major piece obviously)
  5. Yeah, I edited mine after I saw you had. Made me wonder if I had gone nuts, because I had no idea why I responded that way.
  6. My guess is Starlin sticks. I don't see us holding onto Coghlan myself though, maybe not Wood either. I really want us to add Yusmeiro Petit, then I'd be happy as hell to let Hammel go. Since I definitely think we'll be adding another SP this offseason.
  7. I've read a few times that Cueto isn't an option for the Cards due to some things happening between them.
  8. I know he's not even available yet, but after the Lackey move.....Yasiel Sierra is a perfect fit. Forget a trade, just add him and hold onto Javy and Soler. Still would leave us money to address CF.
  9. That's why I ???? it. I'm guessing we have a natural progression of players to go thru....Maybe we know Heyward is a long shot, Gordon too? Maybe it's just them doing their extensive homework that has basically just connected us to everyone? Maybe, hoping beyond hope here, there's somehow money or a plan in place that allows for Chen AND a Heyward or Gordon?
  10. Bruce Levine ‏@MLBBruceLevine 2m2 minutes ago Free agent Wei-Yin Chen on hot topic for Cubs Hmm, I don't think I like this?
  11. I wonder what the deal looked like and if it can be revisited. He acted like it could be revisited evidently. Just seemed confused by the Braves situation as to why they'd pull him back away quickly like that.
  12. Tim Brown says 5/90 on Shark. I think from a team building standpoint, with no consideration for douchiness, I really, really like the Lackey deal better than that.
  13. Henry Schulman ‏@hankschulman 4m4 minutes ago I'm hearing #sfgiants are close to a deal with starter Jeff Samardzija. Could be today. Didn't waste time licking their wounds.
  14. Gammons was on Inside the Clubhouse and said that as of Thursday, the Cubs thought they had the framework for a Shelby Miller deal in place. But things fell apart quickly on Atlanta's end for some reason.
  15. Thanks Johnny. Was there anything on Perez or Bolanos that makes them seem worthwhile? I'm starting to wonder if they've passed Gutierrez up at this point as far as priority goes. I guess Ruiz is the top guy, based on pedigree, how advanced he is, and likely his stuff too.
  16. Yeah, I can't see him as the everyday CF in 2016. If he's around, you can find him 400+ AB's all over.
  17. As long as he's healthy and playing like he's capable of, I'd say 400 is the low end.
  18. With the Dodgers and Giants losing out on Greinke and the Cards offering 180 on Price, my stance has changed. Heyward is heading towards 250 and maybe higher.
  19. Bill Shaikin said Dodgers never got comfortable with a 6th year being guaranteed. Thought they were close to a deal Wednesday but obviously didn't happen.
  20. This move looks better now that Greinke is off the market and SF and LA are both looking for FA pitching.
  21. Greinke to Arizona per Rosenthal Lolololololololol
  22. Well, we'll get a pick for Fowler that'll be 5-8ish picks behind the one we just lost. Will we sign another guy that costs us our 2nd rounder? Very possible. We'll sign enough IFA's to make up for the lost value of the pick(s).
  23. in a vacuum how could you not love it? it's almost guaranteed neutral value with some potential for solid surplus plus very short term commitment. it's outside said vacuum that you can find reasons to not like it, IMO how is it almost guaranteed neutral value? lackey is old and has recently had two consecutive completely lost value seasons. He's thrown 600+ innings and has an 8.4 combined fWAR over the last 3 seasons. So last three years is all that matters? The fact that he's 37, a doughy douchebag and recently provided no value for two consecutive seasons means he's a lock to be good again this year? You originally said you didn't like the amount. You then said its not even value-neutral. The last 3 seasons are certainly more important than the two prior to that, as you know. So you think this needs to be judged on 5 then? Why not 8? He IS a douche. I'm not a fan of him either. But this contract is just fine. What did you expect him to get?
