  1. I’m not so sure I trust any Astros hitter or pitcher to not fall off a cliff on a different club at this point.
  2. As most people do, I think it's an eyesore from the outside, but I think it looks great from the inside. I don't care that it has a small capacity nor do I care that that leaves Chicago out of the conversation for a Super Bowl. That said, I wouldn't hate it if we had a building with a retractable roof, and I might be slightly more likely to go to games if it were. Then again, I also kind of like the fact that dome/warm weather teams seem to horsefeathers themselves when they come visit in December/January. I absolutely hate getting to and from it, but football is better on TV anyway. Exactly this.
  3. This is a good hire IMO. I don't know what impact Justin Stone or Craig Breslow will have on this organization, but this could be big. I wasn't even aware this guy applied for the position. He was very highly regarded when he was in the Cards' FO. He's well-versed in analytics and is definitely more "new school" compared to Jason McLeod. Smart dude -- has a master's degree in statistics from Harvard. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-conversation-with-oakland-assistant-gm-dan-kantrovitz/ He probably didn't apply.
  4. Why would the Cubs contending hinge on how much time Happ gets in CF? If he's a negative fWAR guy like our everyday CF last season, it would definitely hurt the team. With that said, as one of the biggest Happ fans on this board... FREE HAPP!
  5. Who is that terrible douchebag? Don’t answer that. Just never bring it up again. He was annoying but it was a pretty good breakdown.
  6. The Luxury Tax is so fun. Owners insist on these punishments for crossing an arbitrary threshold, and now that those punishments are in place the owners cry "what are we supposed to do in the face of these harsh punishments??" Last year's payroll ended at ~240, with the highest LT level starting at 246. This year's limit is 248, so I'd imagine flat-ish means they probably can do 240 to start the year and have a little breathing room for the trade deadline. Where does the money from the luxury tax go?
  7. Mark Saxon is an awful writer. What the hell was that intro?
  8. [tweet]https://twitter.com/stras37/status/1191498539458867206[/tweet] You may now resume hating Strasburg.
  9. What the horsefeathers are you rambling on about? Don't get him started about how Penn State University should be Penn Commonwealth University Nah that’s not the same. Pennsylvania is also a state. It would have been hilarious to hear Ortiz say “It’s all about the special federal district you represent.”
  10. Something very important is missing from that video...
  11. *whispers* The Maddon-Hendricks move wasn't a bad move. it was when you consider the state of the bullpen and chapman The Cubs needed Chapman + the entire rest of the pen to get 5 outs. I don't think anyone expected him to give up two runs.
  12. 2 hits. Total. It was worse than Maddon pulling Hendricks. Ehhh, it wasn’t worse than the Maddon-Hendricks move. *whispers* The Maddon-Hendricks move wasn't a bad move.
  13. This is true. Another reason why it’s silly to not just give yards away.
  14. a 41 yard fg kick should be placed left, center or right in the NFL and be pretty close to a gimme, so Pineiro can kiss my ass. That doesn't excuse Nagy, he's an idiot for not trying for more with that much time left, but it sounds like Pineiro is just saying horsefeathers to provide cover for himself. A 41 yard FG is in no way shape or form a gimme. Kickers were ~87% on FGs between 35-45 yards in 2018 (295 of 340). 85% on 154 attempts between 41-43 yards. James Harden is 85% from the FT line. It's like him missing one with the game on the line. I don't know how we're defining "gimme" but, all else equal, it's not really *expected* when someone misses from that distance.
  15. Larry Rothschild being fired as a pitching coach in the same month Prior is hired as one is pretty weird to think about.
  16. Offense scores 1 TD, it's the kicker's fault! A 43 yarder is like 75%-80% in the NFL. Yes, the Bears could have been in a better position to win the game but the kicker sucked/sucks.
  17. to be fair, last year we failed in the playoffs because our kicker sucked and we knew that early on Also the offense did jack squat all game but for some reason people forget that. What that reason is, we'll sadly never know...
  18. I love that photo. It's really cool.
  19. There are a lot of protections against bad landlords and yeah, a lot of them are huge dicks. It also sucks when someone ruins your place.
  20. Everyone feels this way until someone trashes an apartment they own.
  21. [tweet] [/tweet] It's Bob, but...

  23. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/ct-wp-washington-nationals-st-louis-cardinals-20191016-juarvdrv45dthb6fi6g3erb6xy-story.html Yes, Kolten. The haters were right. Good luck repeating this charade next season, bitch!
