  1. So again, why should the Cubs make this deal? Because they may project Arenado more favorably moving forward, he’s controlled longer (I’m operating off the assumption if he’s traded he’s waiving his opt out rights as articles have mentioned), Arenado has been healthier and better more recently, projects to be able to stay at 3B longer, the Rockies are willing to pay down the deal and you’re getting Arenado at a discount, if we can throw Chatwood in him and Bryant are close to equaling out Arenado’s salary this year, maybe they like Arenado’s personality a bit to shake horsefeathers up like they’ve mentioned wanting, etc. You can still get under the LT this year acquiring Arenado and there’s still plenty of money to spend next offseason with him added. I’d rather move Bryant for around an equally as good player, who’s controlled longer than for a prospect poo poo platter/pitchers who probably die. They've also mentioned valuing contact and Arenado Ks a lot less, fwiw.
  2. So again, why should the Cubs make this deal? I donno, maybe because they disagree with the projections? Maybe because they have access to information Fangraphs doesn’t have? It’s not complicated.
  3. Seriously. He's a freak.
  4. Is he all of a sudden not going to play a [expletive] of games at Petco and Dodger Stadium and AT&T?
  5. Occam’s Razor would imply that if we think the FO is sharp, if they did do that trade either: 1. They don’t think Nolan is just slightly better moving forward 2. It’s not such a big contract after the Rockies throw in cash
  6. My favorite thing (other than the obvious WS stuff) to watch from that run is the comeback in SF. I LOVE the comeback against SF. Javy, Zo, and Willy were so swaggy.
  7. I always figured it was because of the politics thread. HuffPo and CNN are really the only other politically related things I go to on my work comp. If it's your work comp it's likely because you're sharing an IP with folks who actually are being targeted. That, or you're flagged as interested in politics, and the Trump people are content spraying ads at politically motivated people even knowing full well that they're wasting half of them. Many display ads are based on the content on the page. This board can’t go like 3 pages without mentioning Trump so that’s probably impacting it.
  8. Let's check in with our old friend Ed Lynch, shall we? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2020/02/10/mlb-2020-former-gm-ed-lynch-decries-analytics-baseball/4712923002/
  9. [tweet] [/tweet] I am very much here for this. Also lmao at the replies.
  10. Salt? No Salt? Rocks? Which apps?
  11. It’s just that you tend to vastly overestimate the extent to which anyone outside of Mississippi (or even Ole Miss alumni) give a horsefeathers about Chad Kelly or any other Ole Miss players not good enough to start in the NFL. Even mentioning him in the same sentence as Manziel — who literally won the horsefeathering Heisman — is bonkers. He had like one good season in college and was an NFL backup.
  12. You think Pete Rose should be banned from the HOF? Until he’s dead, yes. It’s not just the fact that he did it but the fact that it lied about it so many times and didn’t come clean about things until proof came out that he did what he was accused of. All he wants at this point is to be inducted into the HOF at this point so he can enjoy it. He wouldn’t have admitted to anything had proof not come out and I don’t think he’s the least bit sorry for doing it. He doesn’t deserve to enjoy getting into the HOF. horsefeathers him. Interesting. Do the feel the same way about the steroid guys who haven’t apologized? Or I guess even the guys whose apologies you felt were just aimed at them getting into the HOF?
  13. You think Pete Rose should be banned from the HOF?
  14. The Mets wanted Cohen to buy a majority stake for $2.6B up front but wanted a Wilpon to be in charge of the team for 5 years. This is peak Mets. https://nypost.com/2020/02/07/steve-cohen-could-be-blocked-from-buying-another-mlb-team-after-mets-mess/
  15. Ask Sammy how not giving a horsefeathers about the Chicago media worked out for him.
  16. Don't they usually just include projections for FAs who havent signed yet under their old teams? Yes but I still thought it was funny.
  17. I’ll take the under on 2.0 fWAR projected for Addison Russell on the Cubs this season. Wtf?
  18. You write that as if it's meaningful. It's certainly meaningful enough to get teams to not want to go over 3 years in a row.
  19. Price has negative value. Including him keeps you from getting all the “A-AAA darlings.” I think your view on his value is skewed. It would be like if we traded Heyward with Bryant and wondered why we only got Jean Segura and Nick Pivetta back. No, I'm saying I wouldn't make that trade in the first place. If I'm trading my MVP I'm not doing it to get rid of a bad contract in Price/Heyward, especially if I'm already staring down the barrel of losing picks because I cheated. I need more prospects....period. They paid something like $13m in luxury tax last year alone. The penalties get a lot steeper for year 3 over tax. Like the Cubs, I suspect they will be under for 2020 and then go over in 2021 when it resets.
  20. Really? They, IMO, very clearly are valuing staying under the LT over all else. yes, but cant they get better prospects? I mean, its MOOKIE BETTS for crying out loud. AND David Price. David Price is 34 years old and due almost $100m over the next 3 seasons. He's averaged about 2 fWAR over the last three years. Even if you bump him to 3 and he gets an NL boost... that's not prime prospect stuff. Betts is great, and you have him for 1 season: will he be the 10+ fWAR guy from 2018, the 8+fWAR guy from 2016, the 5+ fWAR guy from 2017, or the 6+ fWAR guy from 2019?
  21. One of my favorite Strop videos of all time. Probably tied with him dancing alone in the pen lmaooooo. https://www.instagram.com/p/BEcE_NPjodX/
  22. Yeah, it's sad. I horsefeathering love Strop. But I think it's the right call. If he's healthy/fixed they can sign him next year. It's gonna suck when he has a good outing against us tho.
  23. Bryant will be a FA An expiring contract >>> a player opt-out No horsefeathers?
  24. Yeah that's a fun follow up poll
  25. Bryant is a FA at the end of 2021 Arenado has an opt out at the end of 2021 Who will post more fWAR between now and the end of 2021 season?
