    All day interview isn't that uncommon for a senior position in the business world. If you're speaking with a lot of people on the leadership team plus lunch it's not really absurd. Oh I know, I’m more just upset they essentially wasted a full day on Girardi. Sources tell me that they asked him to manage a simulated game and the Cubs were losing 10-2 in the second inning, so took a lot longer than expected.

    If they didn't think he'd provide continuing value they wouldn't have offered him a job and wouldn't have committed to creating the role in the first place. The Cubs clearly wanted this guy and lost out on him to a division rival that also stole the one good pitching mind they had in the organization. It's a loss. Why do you think Boddy went to the Reds over the Cubs?

    Close to being the same hitter in terms of production. Not the same player overall though. wRC+ are similar.

    We either got outbid or outsold with a better pitch. The pitching development infrastructure is non existent, I can’t imagine we weren’t willing to give him whatever role he wanted in pitcher development. Whatever role he wanted? No way. Boddy is the kind of guy you bring in to run the pitch lab, and maybe give insight in scouting, mechanics, etc. There’s no way I’m giving him free reign over the entire pitching program.

    There’s no way we got *outbid* by the reds. He was likely offered a bigger role that we were not willing to offer.

    They very publicly and intentionally made Joe a lame duck, so if they are seriously considering Loretta, I doubt they care too much about the association they've created by making him Joe's bench coach for a year. Wouldn't the bold essentially make "seriously considering Loretta" not likely? Yeah, Joe wasn't exactly a lame duck.
