  1. he know something we don't? Almora sucks, Happ has been on a tear lately, and I think Happ has now been down long enough to get an extra year of service time out of him. Seems like a decent time for a call up.
  2. Green comes off as a complete moron in this. That email is barely comprehensible.
  3. Wow that is bad. Also smooth move by the catcher lol.
  4. Rrrrrrright, because no player wants to play in LA or NY either. Yea no kidding. After the zero state income tax teams (DAL, HOU, SA, MIA, ORL, MEM), Illinois is one of the better states to be a millionaire with its flat tax at 3.75. Only PHI and IND edge it out. So it's still like the 9th best income tax state in the NBA. The current governor wants those making over $1m to be taxes at 7.95% on their total income, which would make it one of the worst.
  5. I know I'm pretty damn bleak on this team, but Baez and Contreras are two pretty gigantic "other than's." Out of the rest of them named, it seems like a lot of that is just baseball being baseball; most prospects are simply not going to amount to much than being Just Guys. It's frustrating for sure that either Russell or Schwarber, as highly touted as they were, haven't amounted to more, but 2 all stars out of 7 guys is pretty damn good. Giving credit where credit is due: this. "lol man it sucks all we did we develop two guys who compete to be the best C and SS/2B in the game"
  6. Yes, from a purely baseball standpoint I always want the Cubs to be as good as they can possibly be. From an emotional standpoint, I am very up and down in that regard this year. Talking/complaining/arguing about them from a baseball standpoint helps me try and sometimes ignore that stuff that's making it real hard to keep liking a team I've been a fan of my entire life. But hey, sweet gotcha, broheim. It's less a gotcha and more of me trying to understand which role you're playing in this conversation.
  7. Wait, you want the Cubs to be good now?
  8. You don't deserve nice things, especially not a guy on pace for 30 dongs and 40+ doubles who has a 12% walk rate.
  9. There is nothing more NSBB than complaining about your cost-controlled 3B/OF who is putting up a .390 wOBA, 142 wRC+ and is one of the best baserunners in the game. Oh, and is playing at a ~6 fWAR pace.
  10. Cool story about how they found him. He’s slashing .295/.369/.600 in Iowa. Plays 2B and MAYBE some 3B/OF. He’s not great defensively but fine at 2B (allegedly), has a bit of a K problem but who cares. Hmmm who else in our system plays OF and some just ok 2B, has a K problem and hits MLB dongs...
  11. I am horsefeathering tired of Rizzo TOOTBLANing all over the field. He’s gotta be one of the worse baserunners in MLB. Does he think he’s faster than he is? Ridiculous.
  12. Read this for more: https://library.fangraphs.com/misc/war/positional-adjustment/ Some would argue that the DH adjustment is too harsh; still, it's a looooong way away from where Schwarber is.
  13. Weird, I have something different from fangraphs: .280 .302 .700 with a .399 wOBA and 148 wrc+ I will absolutely take that. Regardless, him finding some power is a good thing and he has continued to hit the ball hard over that stretch and increased his LD%. A small sample like this is of course not predictive but I don't think anyone is worried about his walk rate over this stretch. Well I think the concern is that you're only going to get one or the other, and if that's the case, I'm not sure this is a better version, unless you think he can continue to put 35% of his fly balls out of the park. Yeah, I don't think that's super sustainable. I am also hopeful that it's not an either/or.
  14. The Defense value you see in the Fangraphs dashboard isn't adjusted for position, so you could use that to compare the relative contributions of Schwarber to say, Baez, if you really wanted to. UZR is going to be a bit more practical for most purposes, and it's further down the page: https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=16478&position=OF#fieldingadvanced Also I misspoke, it's +8.3 career, got the 8.8 from 2017 lodged in my brain. So what is BR doing with theirs? The whole not adjusted for position thing seems really dumb. It's really to better compare players across positions. There's not a great way to do so otherwise. If you wanted to know who the best LFs were, you could still sort on position. Of 33 players with at least 200 innings in left field, Eloy is 31st in defensive fWAR. Just as the scouting reports said that Eloy would hit a ton, they said that he'd be awful in the field. If we're to believe in his bat, we have to believe in the shittiness of his fielding.

  16. Schwarber has been an absolute beast over the last two weeks. Right, as I described: .262 .289 .667 .956 Then this past week: .235 .235 .588 .824 Over the last month his OBP is barely over .300. I seriously doubt anyone here thinks these are realistic or sustainable lines. What two weeks are you looking at?
  17. she would mow these cubs down right now, too I'd hit a homer off of that
  18. Schwarber has over 2600 innings (~285 full games) in the OF with a UZR/150 of +8.8. He has multiple seasons of 90+ games in the OF with at least an 8.8 UZR. Even if you take an oaf tax of half a win per year he's still adding value. I'll fully cop to just doing the (possibly) dumb thing and only going to BR and Fangraphs' defensive WAR/cumulative defensive value numbers. Where is the disconnect? The values are weighted against all positions, not just the position the player plays. Even the best 1B in baseball can have negative defensive fWAR.
  19. Schwarber has been an absolute beast over the last two weeks.
  20. If someone's posting activities were largely: 1. Actively rooting for this Cubs team to fail 2. Refusing to accept/acknowledge that this Cubs team a pretty good team I honestly would not expect that person to be a Cubs fan.
  21. What a game from Darvish against one of the best lineups in MLB. Hope he can keep the momentum going.
