  1. Zach Zaidman is so bad I’m actually laughing at his 9th inning.
  2. I mean, okay, but... that’s Darvish throughout his entire career. He goes 5-6 and gets a [expletive] of strikeouts. He’s pretty much always been that guy so not sure what you were expecting. He’s not always been that guy, he routinely went 7+ innings in the past. Yes he’s had numerous injuries and isn’t the same pitcher as he was in 2014 but I’m not going to praise him for going 6 innings (exactly) in 1 of 9 starts this year. Have our expectations for him already been trampled down that much? If you want to make the argument that he’s still building up his arm and let’s wait to see if he can start pitching deeper into games as the season goes on fine. But no I’m not going to say 5.1 IP and 2 ER is what I expected as his 2nd best start of the season. I’m not going to go to baseball reference page for you and divide his IP by his GS but you can and see for yourself. He’s the all time leader in K/9. He has never averaged 7 IP per start. He doesn’t need to do so to be effective and bringing this up after he’s gone 5.1 IP, 2 ER and 11 Ks is horsefeathering asinine: you’d really complain if he put that up every start?
  3. This is a weird take. It’s hard to have a super efficient game when you have 11 Ks... $20m a year to be a 5-6 inning pitcher I mean, okay, but... that’s Darvish throughout his entire career. He goes 5-6 and gets a [expletive] of strikeouts. He’s pretty much always been that guy so not sure what you were expecting.

  5. I mean, if we’re talking about most likely outcomes...
  6. Did we get another year of control with this Iowa stint?
  7. I mean he’s the all time leader in K/9 so a lot of people believe the legend.
  8. Sure, but it hasn't really been mainstream for a long time. It wasn't a focus of national media until somewhat recently -- the person sitting behind Brett Kavanaugh comes to mind -- and most recently, the NZ shooter. It's not unreasonable for the average person to not know that it's a white power symbol and to be surprised that someone would do that on live television at a Cubs game. And multiple people in the White House doing it, too. I get what you're saying, and others who somehow mercifully missed this. I guess we're just at the point where more and more people are going to realize what's changed, and ideally knock it off. Here's a good overview on the circle game, fwiw: https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/wj8e74/searching-for-the-man-behind-the-circle-game I was talking about this incident with some guys at work and one of the guys said "oh, he did this?" and then I looked down and got a light jab. So it's alive and well lol.
  9. It's definitely a racist symbol but it became a thing in large part because of 4chan and it really hasn't been a thing for that long. https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/okay-hand-gesture https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2018/09/18/ok-sign-white-power-symbol-or-just-right-wing-troll The whole 4chan "let's make this a fake thing to pwn the libs, 'whoops', now alt-right people are doing it ironically/seriously" started in 2017. But Milo and co. started it back in 2015 as this intentionally nebulous dog-whistle along the lines of, "white guys chill like this" or whatever the hell goes on in their lizard brains. It's been festering for a while.
  10. I'm online a lot but I have no idea what 4chan is even though I've heard of it. I vaguely recall hearing that this was not used to racists horsefeathers but I don't hang out with anyone who would use it (to the best of my knowledge) so it's not something I immediately thought of when I saw the pic. I've never been on 4chan. 4chan isn't the story. This symbol is a racist symbol used by racists and has been for years and people know it. It's definitely a racist symbol but it became a thing in large part because of 4chan and it really hasn't been a thing for that long. https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/okay-hand-gesture https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2018/09/18/ok-sign-white-power-symbol-or-just-right-wing-troll
  11. This is surprising to me.
  12. Well, wouldn't best case be good Marmol? Because that slider is filth. i'm not sure he'd ever be able to get his BB/9 even to the 4-5 range that good marmol was at. later on it was higher but he was still a pretty good reliever Remember the conversation I started on how good of a career Strop has had? Marmol’s career fWAR is third all time for Cubs RPs, ahead of Strop and behind Sutter and Smith. Really easy to forget how good he was since he fell off pretty hard.
  13. There was a graphic up during the broadcast that said Strop is the only pitcher in franchise history with 5+ years with a sub- 3.00 ERA and 50+ IP in each. Definitely in the discussion for best Cubs reliever ever.
  14. Celebrations are the icing, not the cake. Baseball is a hell of a lot better with celebrations but pretty damn good without them, too. MLB’s current virality is based on celebrations, which is fun but likely not a sustainable way to grow the game (e.g. being conditioned to think that a walkoff isn’t cool without a bat flip is probably not great).
  15. Y’all gonna make me miss my start.
  16. Duke’s power was his unconditional faith and that broke. It’s over.
  17. 11 pitch PA from KB ending in a walk. Battled back from 1-2, too. Good to see.
  18. there was no reason to trade them then. especially russell. saying they "should" have traded them in hindsight is pointless, especially since there was probably more reason to trade baez then, which would have been a huge mistake. Russell had a #1 prospect attached to his name and would most likely bring more in return. To me Baez had a higher ceiling than Russell, even at that time. Damn, you're an oracle, B2B. What predictions do you have for the current roster? Please share.
