  1. I mean, Theo can clearly form thoughts. I'd describe him as a fairly sharp corporate bro, and typical in so far as he enjoys a frat house atmosphere. Sow frat house games, reap frat house prizes. What's disturbing to me is that these types of boy's club corporate set ups are so common, and not just in sports franchises. I'm not sure if its because these guys are fostering an atmosphere so that women will stay away, or that having set ups like these are required to attract the "talent" they are targetting, or some of both. In any case, men are largely pathetic children and they suck, and if you want to blame Theo for this guy sending his dick to a lady that jilted him, I guess I don't especially care. That's a really roundabout way to shrug off something that happened on his watch. Like, it's always convenient for people to act like when it was working that the Cubs' FO was this amazing machine that basically sprang forth from his brain, but then when horsefeathers goes wrong, no matter on what level or how high up, it's always, "oh, well we can't expect him to be responsible for EVERYTHING." That’s most people though. I’d imagine that you’re saying that because you don’t have a deep reverence or level of respect for Theo. If it were someone you really looked up to, you might find yourself trying to absolve them of responsibility.
  2. i'm not going to deny that you make a valid point by bringing up those horsefeathers. i just think those situations are considerably different than theo risking his career and reputation to sweep some dork like jared porter's creepiness under the rug. He was a supposed rising star in the organization that was allowed to leave to be an asst gm shortly after this thing happened, when they could have just elevated him to their own asst GM gig. It looks to me like they knew he was trouble and preferred to let him go. They also put no effort into bringing him back. Allowing creepy, sexually inappropriate work behavior to proliferate so that it can be outsourced to other competing organizations is the new market efficiency.
  3. I love Theo but I wonder how much of this type of behavior speaks to the character of baseball bros he staffed within his organization. Jed too, frankly. Think of the type of person who sends a dick pic... there is absolutely no way that no one in the FO knew he was trying to hook up with a reporter and some may have known he sent the photos.
  4. Wearing a mask and taking it off to scream is peak moron.
  5. So he’s good against Nebraska, Penn State, Rutgers, and Michigan State (a collective 12-21 record), is effective but throws a bunch of picks against Indiana, is complete trash against Northwestern, is great against Clemson, and doesn’t turn the ball over but is neutralized against Alabama. It’s not an inspiring body of work. Yes. All after a 40 TD, 1 INT regular season last year with wins and fabulous performances against #8 Wisconsin, 13 Michigan, 8 Penn State (in consecutive weeks, mind you), 13 Wisconsin, 25 Michigan St, the same IU defense that gave him trouble this year and brought back every starter but one, and a Cincinnati team that went 20-2 the following 22 games after facing Fields. Yes! Fields was awesome last season! But he was decidedly less impressive this year. I guess NFL teams may disagree but I don’t see him as a first round guy and I’d be disappointed if my team took him in the first.
  6. Carolina may have cost itself 5 draft positions with a stupid win over Washington, but the silver lining is they won't have a chance to talk themselves into Fields. He may well end up being great but he's had a few too many of these. He's literally had 3. And that's counting this 0 turnover game as 1 of them. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk So he’s good against Nebraska, Penn State, Rutgers, and Michigan State (a collective 12-21 record), is effective but throws a bunch of picks against Indiana, is complete trash against Northwestern, is great against Clemson, and doesn’t turn the ball over but is neutralized against Alabama. 7. He was 12/27 for 114 yards and 2 picks in the big ten championship. I’m not convinced he’s a first round talent.
  8. I knew Northwestern’s defense was better than Bama’s but it’s good to see the confirmation.
  9. I hadn't heard about off field concerns before. One article I found mentions a few things from his college years and a DUI from like 2001. Is there more than that? Yeah, it's mostly nonsense teams can use as an excuse not to hire a black coach. DUI, fight in college after being called a racial slur, multiple rapes when he was on the Colorado staff, some assault stuff that got him banned from campus. But nothing since he's been an NFL coach. “The arrest report outlined the incident: Bieniemy was with five friends in a parking lot when he allegedly approached a lot attendant from behind and grabbed her by the neck. The victim told police the contact was not painful, but it startled her. She said the man also made comments while holding her. "She stated that the male who grabbed her said something about 'a bunch of black males all at once being her worst nightmare,' " according to the report. The victim told police the group of men then dropped their pants and began urinating nearby.” I don’t see why these things would be disqualifying for head coach but not assistant but that’s pretty gross.
  10. Yep, if you slow it down the DE is off balance headed towards where he thinks the RB is going. Mitch needs to pull that back from the mesh.
  11. NY sports media will eat Kris alive.
  12. I’m lost. Burke and Lasorda, Jr. used to do it. The young Lasorda died from AIDS, and his pappy always clung to his son being a straight man. Wow, hadn’t heard this!
  13. I’m lost.
  14. Sorry, Tom. At least you’ll get to see Lindor play the Cubs more often.
  15. He got his ass kicked the one time he played an elite defense.
  16. Hot take: this is an upgrade.
  17. It’s more about being fair to Ohio St: if they somehow pull off the win, it will come with an asterisk due to all of the extra prep time. Everyone will see the win as tainted and they shouldn’t have to carry that burden.
  18. But playing Illinois is basically a bye so
  19. Not forcing Northwestern to play yet another game (4? 5?) against a team coming off of a Covid bye week? Illinois isn’t coming off a bye. It would mean that Northwestern wouldn’t have to face OSU coming off of a bye after Northwestern played the week before. Northwestern’s opponents: Maryland - season opener Iowa - no bye Nebraska - coming off bye Purdue - coming off bye Wisconsin - coming off bye Michigan State - coming off bye Illinois - no bye; Northwestern coming off bye Ohio State - coming off bye
  20. I don’t understand what the point of that would be Not forcing Northwestern to play yet another game (4? 5?) against a team coming off of a Covid bye week?
  21. losing len hurt me more than any chicago athlete leaving ever has. i guess we all just assumed that he would be here for a very long time. What the hell?
  22. I think we should figure out a way to play tOSU like BYU & Coastal Carolina did. Either way someone will likely earn a playoff berth with a win. It would be good for Ohio State, too. There’s no rule that says they have to win the Big Ten championship to go to the playoff. A 6-0 O$U with wins over Indiana and TAMU is a playoff caliber team.
  23. SUPERTHREAD WARNING: So you think the Cubs had a better core in 2015 than the White Sox do now? I didn’t think that would be too controversial (particularly on a Cubs board). You had two top 5 prospects in the game (Bryant and Russell), Rizzo, the #4 pick in the draft who had destroyed the minors (Schwarber), another top 25/top 50 prospect (Javy), Soler, Contreras in the pipeline, Arrieta and Lester at the top of the rotation, plus Hendricks. Plus Strop and Rondon.
  24. The most provincial big city in the world? What the hell are you talking about?
  25. For the record Len has been open about his anxiety and depression: https://www.dailyherald.com/amp-article/20140608/sports/140608612/
