  1. I feel like it's unnecessary. Other than the "feuds", I don't really see the value.
  2. Nothing wrong with the poll for the sake of a good (if not overdone) argument, but I think the real question is where to go from here.
  3. He'll go in as a Cub, but I think a lot of writers voted for him because he "revolutionized" the closer role simply because he was the first to be used as a modern closer. I give that credit to his manager. His numbers just weren't good enough.
  4. I haven't read through 21 pages of posts, but I just thought it was funny that Corey's quote in the espn.com article included "I'm a guy that can get on base..." Has he looked at his stats? Good luck to him as long as he doesn't come back to haunt us, which I don't really see happening. I will always miss his McDonalds homerun ad.
  5. I agree about the good field conditions, but you don't think playing with a wind chill in the upper 20s would be an advantage over the Panthers? The Bears have shown they can dominate in very cold conditions. Assuming it was cold in Buffalo in late November, that would be Carolina's only win in cold weather. The wind chill was in the low 40s in New Jersey Sunday and they just don't have much experience playing in the cold. There was an article a little while back that basically said that the Bears really aren't that great in cold weather. Mike Downy also noted that Charlotte's Sunday forecast calls for a low of 32 as it does in the winter anyway. I don't really care as long as we win, which I am arrogantly expecting.
  6. Thats definately good news
  7. I did too, but didn't want to admit it
  8. Dawson and Rice, yes
  9. I was at the game tonite. How many times did they leave Jones open? Ridiculous. Furthermore, tonite sealed it - Chandler sucks.
  10. this is a great idea Vance
  11. I said no. It's not like it was a night-and-day decision- he was a good pitcher. My rationale is this: he wasn't good enough to make it to the hall with only a few good seasons (a la Koufax) and a lot of the reasoning people use as justification for him being in is that "he revolutionized the closer role in baseball". I give such credit to the manager, not the player. on a slightly less scientific note, he was pwn3d by ryno as well
  12. There's some truth to that, no doubt about it. But looking at Iowa's last four games (including the losses to Michigan and Northwestern) they completely outplayed their oppposition. Even though Michigan and NW beat us fair and square, it took a couple of lucky bounces to go their way. Then they just destroyed Wisconsin in Madison and did the same to Minny in Iowa City. I think the bowls also looked at how we finished in relation to the teams that beat us. We finished stronger than NW and Michigan and got the nod for that reason. I don't think it's fair to say that it was solely fanbase (though I'd be naive and foolish to say it didn't play a significant role). By those standards, you could say that Penn St. got some luck in beating NU then.. I mean, I don't know that you can say really use that in sports.. you know what I mean? NU also beat Wisconsin and destroyed Michigan St. in East Lansing when they were both very strong teams. And considering that Iowa and NU had the same record, and NU beat Iowa, I have to think that 90% of the decision was bowl-revenue related: Iowa had already been to the Sun Bowl and they have a bigger fanbase for the bigger bowl. Like I said, I know the fanbase played a large role. I'd be a fool if I thought otherwise. In the end, the bowls are all about the almighty dollar. I was at the NW game in Evanston along with several thousand of my Iowa brethren. There *may* have been more of us there than there were Wildcats fans. If you are a bowl committee and you see that, all else being equal, who do you take, you know? I don't think Iowa was MORE deserving, just that we weren't UNdeserving. Anyway, when are the Notre Dame fans coming in to hijack this thread? I hope you weren't on the NU side near the South endzone. I was relentless after we took the lead... I actually just talked to a guy on the team while walking thru Evanston to get lunch... unless he was just wearing Vitalis Sunbowl NU gear to fool people. ND IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN EVERYONE OMG WTF
  13. Hahaha this poor guy. He's probably just sitting at work, hoping the Cubs do well next season and here we are making fun of him. Bogus yet hillarious.

  15. you try going through 97 years of baseball purgatory and tell me how rational you get. the only reason some people look lrational around here is because they'vre come full circle. in short, they're so crazy that they're sane. That blew my mind
  16. Florida by three (OK, sour grapes, Iowa got a better bowl than us because of their fanbase)
  17. I've always been a Zito fan, a lot of people tend to underestimate him and then he ends up surprising them. That being said, I don't think the Cubs will bring him to Chicago because of Dusty. See, everyone on the team needs a nickname. "Big Z" is already taken and "Zito-y" makes no sense.
  18. I only say Petroleum Jelly when I'm in a goofy mood - it just sounds so ridiculous
  19. No no no no no That being said, it's probably pretty baseless and I don't see it happening
  20. Note: Its Mike Brown, not Alex Brown. Why?
  21. You seem to keep forgeting there are other teams in the divison and the rest of the national league besides the Cardinals and Astros. Additionally, the Cardinals and Astros sucking doesn't make us better - it only lowers the bar for the division. The worst thing I can see happening is us somehow winning the division with a San Diego-type total, meaning Dusty and Hendry would take the credit and end up sticking around even though the team regressed.
