  1. I'd like to see the Cubbie face that went away in the late 80s or early 90s come back. I also wouldn't complain if they wore the white with pinstripes every game. Also, upon further consideration and reflection, that old Brewers logo is really cool. I just noticed that the glove is made up of 'm' and 'b'
  2. Looks like Dusty is not the only one showing thier true colors... Don't worry. The longer you're here the more you'll get used to the regular use of Dustyisms by a majority of posters. I'll give you a quick rundown of standard Dusty references: anything about black vs. white players and playing in the heat anything about catching fish, especially striped bass anything about a player being his "girlfriend" There are several others, but I gotta go. Someone else will fill in the rest. Constantly saying "Dude," dude.
  3. Wait, so you can't demolish an old, large building right next to a new building?
  4. I don't really care about "some good moves". I want him to create a great team, and unlike 70% of the league, he has no excuse to fail to create a great team. I'm not interested in him simply doing well for the most part. I don't want to see another 88 win season. This has to be a championship caliber team, and it should be a 90+ win team every year for the next 2-4 years. That doesn't mean simply acquiring a couple good players. It means making a series of great moves, not overpaying for mediocrity but then offsetting it with a nice role player. There is no reason why this team can't be a top 4 run scoring team and a top 4 run preventing team in the NL. I agree. In fact, I would say that most Cub fans agree. What I was getting at earlier was, we don't know if he's in the process of building a great team. Let's wait until the offseason ends before deciding if he's a fool or not.
  5. Yep. I view these boards every day, and have for months even before I joined, and I've gotta say that there's been a lot of conclusion-jumping going on around here lately. (And that's not to say that I'm completely exempt from doing it either!) Naturally, during an offseason following a few very disappointing seasons, some emotions are going to be running high, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. If you want to say Hendry sucks and is a moron, that's fine, but he's the same Hendry who has come through in the past and until the offseason is over, it'll be very hard pass true judgement upon him. If you hate him, that's completely fine, (this is a place for people to share their opinions after all), but when he makes a great deal to help our team, don't jump on his bandwagon (or bandWGN) all of a sudden. This is like the situation a team's manager faces after a game ends on a suicide squeeze: The manager sends the runner on 3rd for a game-winning suicide squeeze, but when the runner is called out, the media and fans criticize the manager for calling for such a risky move. However, had the move been successful, people would've been praising his name and talking about how great of a manager he was. We don't know the whole of Hendry's moves. And by assuming that the moves he's made, the comments he's stated, are to be taken 100% at face value, yeah, he's a moron. But for just one second, consider that there's some strategy in what he's doing. There's a reason he's a general manager for a major league ballclub - odds are, he knows what he's doing. If not, we can rag on him, but let's just see if there's some sort of master plan he's working on before shooting him down. You mean the Hendry who only came through in 2003? Last year we were 4th in our division. In 2004 we choked and a case could be made that the only reason we made it to the playoffs in 2003 was because the Cards and Astros faultered at the end. No I dont have that much faith in Hendry and last time he did something was 3 years ago. If history is any indicator of future success I would have to say that Hendry and the 100mil payroll does not know what he's doing. No one expected us to finish 4th last year, and the major reasons for our failure were not Hendry-related, imo. Sure, the Sosa deal turned out badly, but to many fans, the creedo was "get him out at any cost". I would argue that the majority of 2005's failure had to do with Dusty misusing his team. Yes, Hendry decided to stick with Baker, but that move could've been more political than we're willing to admit. I'm going to wait out this offseason before making any final decision on Hendry.
  6. He's been the GM for 3 years, and was ASST GM for a couple years before that, reportedly the force behind most of the moves officially signed off on by Andy. Hendry's fingerprints are all over this team already. This isn't his first offseason. This isn't a case of jumping to conclusions. I've seen the results of Hendry's work to date, and it's entirely unimpressive, to say the least. This isn't anything like jumping on a manager for one loss. You probably know more about Hendry than I do, as I did not follow him or his work before becoming GM, so I can't really comment on that, but you're certainly entitled to your own opinion.

  8. I wanted to post those but they were way to obvious...thank you for doing so I'm glad that someone other than me found those funny. :D
  9. I felt refreshed today :D
  10. Ah, sorry, thanks.
  11. We're in the same county, maybe it's a Chicago city-limits deal.
  12. Exactly, if the Olympics can test for it, congress should push around MLB some more and get this included as well. I am curious to see what testing pitchers for meth will do. Meth? Yep, methamphetamines/crystal meth It is the most common drug used in MLB, pitchers are the dominant user of it. you sure you don't mean amphetamines (aka uppers/pills/greenies)? Crystal meth is a recreational drug that's snorted or smoked. it's also the reason why you can't buy Sudafed without getting it from a pharmacist behind the counter. Not trying to get off-topic, but are you sure about this? I've always bought my Sudafed straight off the shelf at Walgreens.
  13. Who we want, or who will be starting on Opening Day?
  14. Go ahead and make that argument for me, if you don't mind. I'm DYING to hear it. Please do.
  15. I didn't believe it, so I had to check. He did indeed make 2 errors in 10 games at 1B. For the record, I think AROD deserved it. Besides AROD having better batting stats, I also think its absolutely fair to consider desfense when both of the candidates are so close. Its not Most Valuable Hitter. Now, in a situation were a DH was clearly above and beyond all other hitters than yea, give it to him. I vow to never make such tongue-in-cheek assumptions ever again. :P
  16. Thank God. I knew Lee wouldn't get it because of the Cubs' record this year, but a guy in my dorm was telling me JONES should get it over Pujols because "I saw him carry his team". When I brought up Winshares, VORP, etc. in addition to the other stats that Albert holds over Jones, he noted that I had "taken statistics too far" because the Cardinals' supporting cast was vastly better than that of Atlanta. Definately the right decision.
  17. Haha I was thinking the same thing
  18. Rich Hill better be the lefthanded Carlos Zambrano if JH honestly feels that way. I'm not JH, so I have no idea what he was actually thinking, but just because he said it doesn't necessarily mean he meant it. If GMs were completely frank all the time, it wouldn't be baseball. It's also worth pointing out that he said this around the trade deadline, when Hill's value was at its highest, as his weaknesses hadn't been exposed on the MLB level just yet. I don't think Hendry values Hill quite as highly as he used to - but I imagine he'd still be hard to pry off of his hands. Ah, I wasn't aware of the comment's timing.
  19. I'm talking about what I think the Cubs should do. They should sign Giles, first and foremost. If they can fit in Furcal after that, fine. But Giles is the first priority. If Furcal goes back to Atlanta, the Braves suddenly have to cut elsewhere, then take Marcus off their hands, and you have a perfect situation to introduce Cedeno to the lineup. Yes, BGiles should definately be our #1 priority.

  21. Wanna back that up? Let's look at the numbers: Runs Created Arod: 138 Papi: 136 RC/9 Arod: 9.1 Papi: 8.7 OPS: Arod: 1.031 Papi: 1.001 RBI: Arod: 130 Papi: 148 BA Arod: 321 Papi: 300 HR Arod: 48 Papi: 47 Win Shares Arod: 37 Papi: 31 I think it looks like the voters got this one right. (It's about time!) You forgot one thing though: Is a self-centered, egotistical jerk who cares first and foremost about his own image? ARod: Yes Papi: No Didn't know that was a measureable factor in the MVP voting. But Papi didn't make an error all season! He never helped make an out either. Well, yeah, I was being sarcastic. :) This was the right decision.

  23. But not as good as Rambo IV (also in the works.) Wow. Is Stallone really hard up for money. Also as much as I hate to admit it, if/when Rocky VI comes out I will definately go see it in the theatre. No matter how ridiculous it is, I still love the Rocky series. Me too, but it's going to be ridiculous. I read somewhere that his opponent is a boxer named Mason "The Line" Dixon, no joke
  24. I do, too. In time I'll grow to accept someone else as the #1 slugger on this team. I like Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez very much, but they're no Sammy. Nothing was better than a Sammy homer to win it. Nothing. I love Sammy. Always have, always will. I was appalled at the insanity surrounding that thing at the end of the 04 season. I didn't care if he showed up for the game or not, the season was over. Lord knows that Chip and Steve didn't show up for that one (yeah, they sat there, but they didn't say much of anything) considering they knew they were both lame ducks at that point. Obviously, I'm glad we traded him when we did, because things had deteriorated, and because I wouldn't have wanted to watch him play so badly in Baltimore this last season, but Sammy was what made me a Cub fan and I'll always remember that. :D Well put. Many forgot what he did for our team, our city, and for baseball as well as sports in general. While I don't condone his actions at the end of the season, players have done much worse than leave a meaningless game they had off early. It makes me sad to think that Sammy will not be remembered in the best of light. Oh well, best of luck to him.
