  1. For every person that uses the N-word (or any other racial slur) in public, there are 10 who use it in private. For all we know, half of major league baseball could use racial slurs. I'm not going to have a heart attack over it. EDIT: To be clear, I am NOT saying its OK to use such words, ever.
  2. I'll be there waving my huge purple foam shocker. Everyone look for me! espn2
  3. I've bought a t-shirt from a street vendor. They often have pretty good deals. I would definately be against removing them.
  4. Conan: (in the year 2000....) ...the XFL will become the most popular football league EVER ...on planet moron
  5. I love Sammy so much. He was my sports hero second only to Michael Jordan. I always felt that the things he did wrong were exaggerated greatly by the fans and although they were, in the end, not right, he didn't deserve the flak he ended up getting for them. Obviously, there are countless memories, but the one memory that stands out for me is his game-tying homerun in the 2003 NLCS, game 1. I mean, this is what fans dream of. Team down 2 bottom of the ninth, 2 outs, man on second, playoffs, fans on their feet going crazy, your slugger's up. BOOM! onto waveland avenue. I still get chills thinking about it even though we lost the game. That was for all those critics who said Sosa wasn't a big-time playoff-type player. I'm so upset I won't get to see him play ever again.
  6. Yeah.
  7. I spit my coffee at my computer screen after reading that. I don't know why I found it so hillarious. It sounds like a serious medical problem.
  8. No, its not. But I do think it's dumb that he was comparing their outcomes based on what each player started with. Just because Patterson failed doesn't mean Pie will because they had similar stats/skills.
  9. From Jim Callis' chat (espn insider): Norm, The Heights of Arlingon, IL: Hey Jim, You listed Pie at 9. I'm a Cub fan, but Pie's numbers scream Corey Patterson. What is it about him that people love???? Jim Callis: Great tools, and he's making adjustments better than Patterson did. Remember, that's my list for next year, after 20 or so of the game's best prospects have graduated to the majors. :D
  10. Ahem Ahem. (Madison, WI.) as long as it's in the big10.. screw uchicago and washu.
  11. I'm planning on watching downhill skiing, the freestyle ski jump event(s?), and my personal favorite, shorttrack speedskating. Of course, curling will take precedence.
  12. Didn't we blow a big lead in Aug of 2001? Right after picking up McGriff?
  13. Autographed Wood Jersey, that photo-signed cover deal with Prior, Girardi, Dubois, Wuertz, Welly, Lecister, Morandini, Lieber from the Convention plus Banks when I met him at this Cubs VIP something or other at Wrigley. plus Brooks Robinson, Steve Garvey, Johnny Bench which were gifts
  14. Those stats are cool. However, I'm not so sure that you can measure the "return" of baseball on attendance figures. The fans will eventually come back to the seats if their team is playing well (much like your Cubs, Yankees, Indians comment alluded to). I think the resurgance of baseball is more attuned to the attitudes people held toward the game. After all, there are people who love baseball but don't go to games anyway (too expensive, rather watch at home, etc).
  15. Will Farell's imitations of him were gold. "Ya ever been in a room with a Mahrlin?" Edit: After reading the whole thread, yeah, his impressions weren't that good, but they were so ridiculous that they were funny.
  16. Are we supposed to vote to make the Big10 stronger, or weaker so it's easier for current teams to win. I voted for West Virginia - I simply love their basketball and football teams (and programs).
  17. I never got why Grace was such a hero to everyone. He was a good ballplayer, yes, but for a lot of people who say they hate Sammy because of the corking and alleged steriods, I find it wholly ironic that they adore Grace who once said, "If you're not cheating, you're not trying." There, I said it.
  18. Well, part of the reason people don't care about the NBA is because Jordan isn't playing anymore. A significant number of ex-fans will tell you that.
  19. You sure don't have any tolerance for those that don't like Sammy do you? Why do you act like your opinion is more valid than theirs by mocking anyone who might not like the way he acted or might have suspicions of illegal roid use? I know several fans who didn't like him not for "roid use" but more for how they perceived his attitude to be. I know alot of Grace fans that believe he ran Grace out of town. Now I'm not saying any of those opinions are correct, but I'm certainly not going to mock everyone anytime the name Sammy is brought up like you undoubtedly do. I don't get why you feel the need to do it everytime, but carry on if you must. I'm not trying to speak for Goat, but I think he was getting at the fact that during Sosa's glory years, the many fair weather fans were praising his name were the first to bash him when things went wrong as opposed to others who stuck by him. Additionally, anyone who would boo Sosa during his first start back would probably be a jerk anyway, imo.
  20. My friend from Atlanta posed this question to me, and I actually had to hesitate. What's your take?
  21. Yeah. I've always liked the guy (Hairston). And he and Ramon kind of share that "off the bench 'hustler'" way of playing that I appreciate in a player. That being said, of course I'd rather have Walker at 2B. Does anyone honestly want Neif over JH though?
