  1. Maybe there's another issue we don't know about. Maybe his arm is messed up. Maybe he was told from higher-ups not to pursue Wood further. Maybe Wood said he wouldn't come back under any circumstances despite statements to the contrary (to save face publicly?)? If it were as black and white as we're saying, there's no way any GM doesn't offer Wood arbitration.
  2. Hopefully Eberflus gets that Toledo job. The Alamo Bowl is garbage. I can't believe Nebraska is going to get into a better bowl than us. What's even more garbage is that 9-3 Northwestern is going to end up in the Alamo bowl, and 8-4 Iowa (whom Northwestern beat -- on the road) will go to the Outback Bowl. Wealthy fans who don't get to go to bowls every year travel well too!
  3. Gregg Sucks even compared to Howry. And Hendry is not a good GM. http://www.fangraphs.com/comparison.aspx?playerid=1793&playerid2=237&playerid3=&position=P&page=3&type=full so K/BB is the best way to judge pitchers now? I missed the memo You miss a lot of things. It's one of the more important stats when judging a relief pitchers. However, Howry's been better than Gregg in almost every category save for last year. I don't like Howry, but Gregg is terrible. By your logic and looking at the graph you provided, last year was Howry's best year ever. His K/BB ratio was great because he never walked anyone... because he left fat pitches over the plate that got crushed. K/BB is important, but so is the quality of a pitcher's stuff -- something that does not appear on the graph provided.
  4. http://www.prosportsdaily.com/forums/showthread.php?t=297233&page=38 I'll believe it when OriolesHangout reports it. The original poster said he heard it on XM radio's MLB channel
  5. Isn't that what the saying is? Or is it something close to that? I may be going crazy :banghead: It's either, "hold onto your seats!" or "fasten your seatbelts!"
  6. I looked into the eyes of the list of the most overrated bands in rock history and I saw three letters: a D, an M, and a B. You might not like the Pumpkins, but to call them the most overrated ever is ridiculous.
  7. I saw Ben Roethlisberger at the NU-Illinois game. I asked, "Ben why are you here?" He pointed to a guy and said "This fool." I think it might have been Mendenhall, which would make sense.
  8. I hate him as an opponent, but he'd be a fan favorite.
  9. I mean, think about this for a second. Both Towers and Wren, 2 General Managers for MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL teams have been working on a potential trade for a while right? So you mean to tell me that's all been useless, and that Peavy would have never accepted a trade there anyways? And neither of those GMs wrere aware of that, yet some guy in a casino who briefly chatted to Peavy knew about it? Come on. You know perfectly well if we were Braves fans reading this stuff we'd laugh. The 2 millionaire GMs don't know about it, but DonnieD does? Plus there's the fact that Peavy had the Braves as one of the 5 teams he'd accept a trade to in the first place. I think people want to put too much into Donnie's story and aren't being reasonable because of it. What if I told you DonnieD was a billionaire? My point wasn't that they are millionaires...it's that those millions were paid to them to run a pressional sports rganization. So DonnieD being a billionaire wouldn't be relevant unless those billions came from the Padres or Braves. I was just joshin' with ya.

  11. According to another board Levine was just on ESPN 1000 and said Bradley is the only RF Hendry is looking at. Gotta love that .436 OBP and .999 OPS. His injury history is somewhat discouraging, but with our depth we could afford to have him play in only 120-130 games. DO IT JIM!!! PLEASE! Make my day. Bradley, Furcal and Peavy are the guys that I want and I can live without Peavy if we can somehow get the other two :) You guys do realize that there are OTHER teams in the MLB as well don't you? The Cubs can't sign EVERY FA and trade for EVERY All-star. The Cubs are NOT gonna sign Rafael Furcal. He is a lot of teams' top priority, whereas he is our #4 or so priority. The most we'll do is sign a RF and trade for Peavy, and that is more than enough. The main focus right now should be trying to find a 3rd team to get Peavy to Chicago, and also look for a FA RF. I think Peavy is a real possibility, but I feel like since it hasn't been completed yet I only give it a 40% chance of happening. I would love to have Milton Bradley in RF. He is the best RF FA by far. Look at those numbers, they are ridiculous. And he can take a day off a week and start Fontenot. BUT I don't think the Cubs are gonna offer him enough because of his baggage (injuries/attitude). He won't pick the Cubs over a team like the Blue Jays whom I'm guessing since he will be their main priority will offer them a way bigger contract. Call me pessimistic but I don't see us getting Furcal or Bradley. Let's pray for Peavy though! k
  12. Is he claiming the guy in the taped footage was someone else? I hope they throw the book at him. Unfortunately, they'd probaby miss and hit an innocent bystander in the courtroom. That's not really how it works...
  13. Northwestern and Iowa both win, then I get pissed that Iowa (8-4) goes to a better bowl than NU (9-3) despite having a worse record and losing the head-to-head. Hopefully Minnesota takes care of business.
  14. Guys c'mon stop. The thought of all of those loopy uppercut swings and misses is making me sick.
  15. Who was saying that his previous awards makes him worth signing? I'm not sure if whoever brought it up had that intention per se, but bringing it up within a discussion of possible interest would seem to indicate that it's relevant, which it isn't. I was the one who brought it up. I said it's worth a shot. And then I said, wow, I didn't realize he won 4 straight Cy Youngs. (Something I noticed when visiting his BR page). Wasn't trying to make a connection.
  16. Who was saying that his previous awards makes him worth signing?
  17. Worth a shot for a 1 yr deal. Just get rid of Marquis. I didn't realize he won 4 straight Cys!
  18. Thanks for the info, Donnie. I'm pretty excited! Hopefully it works out. Soon.
  19. Something tells me there's something going on we don't know. If all Kerry wanted was 1 year deal, there's no way we just let him go. I have no idea what the story is, but it can't be that simple.
  20. I too want to believe Donnie, but how does a pic prove anything? I have pics with a lot of people in the Cubs organization... it doesn't necessarily mean that they're giving me insider info. I JUST WANT PEAVY DAMNIT!
  21. I would love to give Greinke a shot, but something tells me that the Cubs don't want to deal with another talented pitcher with mental/headcase issues. However, we are an organization that prides itself on a players' performance from the previous year, so maybe we'd give him a look.
  22. Unfortunately for him, "walks" aren't good in basketball, either.
  23. It's a pretty subtle u sound that I feel could easily be glossed over for the sake of poetic expression. also requires having "sucked" as one syllable. Everyone says "suct," I know. Yeah, that can be iffy. Interestingly, I know some people who pronounce "poem" as a single syllable, as well: "pome"
