  1. Was it "I think a breaking ball low and away will do him in right here."?
  2. That is just awful awful awful*. I see no good reason to attend. *sorry about that morbid comment Geez, I know they intended it to be a college field only, and it was probably built on the cheap, but how can their consession stands not be built to withstand temps below 30, as if it's not possible to get below 30 degrees in mid to late November in Minnesota. Also no beer taps? Again, I understand it's a college stadium but it's a bit strange that they didn't bother to have any plans for any other events but college athletics apparently. I'm assuming it's the only outdoor stadium in the Twin Cities area that is readily available in the summer for stuff like concerts or soccer games. They didn't consider additional revenue streams like that at all? Given the issues the Univ. of Minnesota had with beer sales in the metrodome (alcohol banned from games after alleged sexual assault during game) I sense they decided it wasn't a good idea. That doesn't mean it was a good idea to not build taps, but that might have affected decision-making.
  3. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/15/nyregion/15snub.html?_r=2&hp Great article.
  4. Please make the tournament. :beg:
  5. John Shurna is ridiculous. 10-for-11 from the field last night and is now shooting 62.1% from 3.
  6. I was thinking you were a Minny person. It's their own damn fault for playing in a decrepit stadium that is prone to roof collapses. You can't blame the NFL for putting the game in Ford Field. It's like Houston people whining about the Miller Park games. If their owner did a better job in advance of that hurricane, it could have been resolved differently. The timing of the issue can't really be pushed aside. Coaches are already making game plans for next week. I didn't think I blamed anyone for it, I simply said it sucked. and, how, other then clothing or shoes, does the change of fields change coaching? Its our Offense vs their Defense, and vice versa. Its not like we are Miami and we never play in cold weather. Seriously?
  7. I couldn't get through that.
  8. He's a 'tard, but he's our 'tard.
  9. Something about Mallett seems off... whenever he throws he looks completely flat-footed. It just looks unnatural.
  10. I live a block away from the Hilton and it's still a waste of time. As has been said, it's too crowded and there are just too many weirdos there freaking out.
  11. I think he used to be the OC at NU in the early 2000s.
  12. And it doesn't matter how great your escapability is when you throw of your back foot and make terrible decisions at times when you are not under pressure. Brady, Brees, and Manning will get sacked more than Jay does in this offense. But they will make up for it with better mechanics and better decision making skills. Cutler's arm is strong enough for him to get away with throwing off of his back foot. He's made clutch throws time and time again doing so. He gets into trouble when he tries to force throws.
  13. I am really, really sad about this.
  14. Rest in peace, Ronnie. And screw you Vet's Committee :( http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-ron-santo-chicago-cubs-obit,0,1699814.story
  15. I think just because it's such a revenue generating ballpark. Something like the #3 tourist destination in the state. That's the organization's argument, at least.
  16. Umm, doesn't that mean he's NOT a 2 hole hitter, Lou?
  17. Ugh, I just realized we're going to have weeks upon weeks of people mispronouncing Qatar... "kuh-TAR"... wrong "gutter"...wrong "cutter"...wrong ... "CUT-ter"...correct
  18. Here's a fun exercise: try to find 15 sites in the state of Rhode Island to host games, plus sites for training grounds. All within the state border. What a stupid idea. When do the vote rolls go public? Yup. They gave the World Cup to Connecticut. Except Connecticut is bigger. And has over twice as many people. But has 500x less money (no, really). Come on, I was shocked and disappointed as well but this could be a pretty neat event. Sure, I think they'll spend lavishly and it will be "neat." I just don't think the World Cup should be aiming for "neat." Fair.

  20. It will definitely be interesting to see how the 2011 Asian Cup goes. Obviously a much, much smaller scale, but I'm interested nonetheless.
  21. You're right. They already announced they'd compromise religion for economy and relax alcohol laws during the Cup. Also, I'm not worried about level of play, they'll get the stadiums cool enough. Qatar will spend any amount of money regardless of whether it's worth it, to make this Cup amazing. They are starving for an opportunity like this to show the West they are progressive, welcoming and relevant. They won't screw it up. But I live in Phoenix. I've experienced long days in the sun and the dreaded desert summer drunk. It can break bad on you pretty easily. Some brit tourist is going to get loaded, pass out outdoors and die. That is very true (and probably likely). Then again, you're not going to have a Brit tourist get loaded and wander into the wrong neighborhood and get robbed (or worse) like you might have in other countries.
  22. But has there been any word of the training grounds being air conditioned? I don't know. If I were running Qatar's World Cup, I'd make sure the training grounds were cool enough.
  23. Somewhat idea but I don't think players are going to die. Didn't they say the stadiums would be air-conditioned? I'm thinking open air with AC like Chase Field is. It should be fine. And there's no way alcohol is not served.
