  1. homeruns and heartbeats? that's gotta be the most boring, pointless story i've heard in awhile
  2. i'll do this discussion a favor and ignore that first paragraph of nonsense. you seem to be in agreement with me here. you're admitting if you pitch badly but get otherworldly lucky your success probably won't last very long. similarly, if guys keep hitting moonshots a few inches foul or blasting 400 ft opposite field flyouts, these guys should start finding the bleachers/avoid gloves when luck evens out.
  3. thats kind of a dumb ass comment i'm not ready to bury guys because guys rip a pitch opposite field 395 feet instead of the requisite 400 feet it takes to go over the wall. the fact of the matter is they played well enough to win but didn't catch the breaks. not sure why people are focusing solely on the result and extrapolating from that.
  4. i like that in Hanson's last 3 starts, he's got a 1.06 era and 1.76 whip
  5. Not terrible, no. But not good. Gave up two homers in a pitcher's park (what it that, 13 now this year?) and walked, what, four guys? He's clearly not even close to the pitcher he was last year. Fortunately, Lilly has been great this year otherwise who knows how far back the Cubs would be right now. i think comerica park is a lot more hitter friendly now than it used to be. that's true, but it doesn't matter much when both HRs traveled > 400 ft
  6. i don't think they played all that bad last night. Bradley narrowly missed a 3-R HR foul, Hoffpauir had a bases clearing double go just foul, and Fox nearly had two opposite field HRs. that's just bad fortune.
  7. going to the game tonight, i'm hoping it drags and we can see the Detroit fireworks in the background of CoPa
  8. this. the blame lies sorely on Boras' shoulders, and Magglio's own greed that he's not playing baseball right now. take a longer contract for lesser annual money guaranteed and you're not in this situation.
  9. i think we're all going to feel nauseated when we see what the Indians are able to get for him in a couple weeks
  10. 2002 scouting report: COMMENT: Good athletic frame. Well-toned and strong. Fair bat speed, occasional power. Long, strong stride; average speed to 1B. Adequate under way. Solid, average, playable arm. Adequate range. Skills for corner outfielder. Plays hard. i love that draft. Bullington, Gruler, Loewen, Everts picked before a slew of all star players and real solid starters (francoeur notwithstanding)
  11. Jeremy Papelbon?
  12. the tigers brass has always remarked that his tools have vastly improved since they drafted him, it's really impossible to determine whether he'd have developed into the same quality of player had we drafted him. he's improved a lot on his plate discipline, fwiw. i think he'd still be a terrific defensive CF regardless
  13. i was at that game, the walkoff HR went 8 rows behind me
  14. thats true, and so was Manny Ramir... wait that doesnt work
  15. the Hossa interview is just awkward. every reporter's giving him a different clever variation of the same question
  16. his voodoo doll actually worked though
  17. tune in a year from now for the rubbermatch
  18. they should give the Conn Smythe to the crossbar
  19. i don't think hendry understands the concept of selling. as bad as we were in 05, he passed on Ethier in favor of Izturis because he thought he'd be pay more immediate dividends. and there really wasn't much more movement beyond that.
  20. thats obviously a mspaint, how dare you denigrate his artwork like that
  21. He does realize Edmonds had tremendous power right? Edmonds certainly didn't have power until he hit the big leagues; how he "grew" into it is worthy of debate
  22. yeah, Osgood and Fleury and Scuderi were all great in net
  23. HOLY [expletive] FLEURY
