  1. I honestly don't think any of their position players would be. Maybe 2, Altuve as a backup MI and Carter in the AL as part of a DH platoon? J Pierre D Solano G Stanton P Polanco J Ruggiano M Olivo C Kotchman A Hechevarria so yeah, if Stanton gets the flu or something, we'll see the worst lineup ever assembled
  2. I've never used the term "bad" in reference to Flacco. He's average when it comes to legitimate QBs in the league. Except that he's not average. http://wp.advancednflstats.com/playerstats.php?year=2012&pos=QB&season=reg Ranked as the #12 QB during the regular season. Including playoffs, he's ranked #6. In 2011, he was ranked #9 in the regular season, and in 2010 he was ranked #5 in the regular season. why are you using WPA for this exercise?
  3. career Lillibridge is a career 89 wRC+ (vs. LHP) opposed to 51 for righties so they're both (he & Valbuena) historically completely dreadful vs. RHPs, but borderline adequate otherwise
  4. did Mike Milbury send that to him?
  5. didn't realize Valbuena had heavy reverse-platoon split 65 wRC+ vs. RHP 97 wRC+ vs. LHP well, that does complicate matters
  6. Lillibridge at 3B and against a LHP isn't nearly as bothersome to me
  7. i'd like to trade Vitters for a good player right now, if it's possible
  8. damn, i really like what CBus is doing
  9. well they bought themselves another 3 years to try to groom a replacement
  10. I would think there are three options. Fire sale. Hold firm. Actually go out and try to acquire a difference maker. There are variations of those, like a Vitters for somebody's overpaid veteran which is essentially holding firm. The chances of actually going out and acquiring a difference maker would probably require the team being in first or second by late July. option four, and maybe my favorite, is to still pick up a devalued asset regardless of our status as sellers if we're out of playoff reach, we can trade off Soriano/DeJesus/Marmol, etc. and still pick up future contributors; the Yankees got 2-1/2 good years of Abreu by relieving the Phillies of his contract, same with the Dodgers going after Hanley (unless you think Eovaldi was a significant return [i don't])
  11. you want to talk about hindering your ability to put a complete roster out there? cap hits, next 3 years combined Flacco: $37M Suh: $45M
  12. slightly tangential, but what's really sad (to me) cap hits (source: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl) Matthew Stafford: $20M, $19M, $17M, (FA) Joe Flacco: $7M, $15M, $15M, $29M, $31M Stafford has $41M guaranteed, and Flacco has $29M; i don't know if he'll make it past 2015 as a Raven but Flacco actually earned a Super Bowl to get paid like he did, Stafford just got a Brinks truck of cash simply for having potential FFFFFUUUUUUU old CBA
  13. swapping out Wil Myers for Fuld should help some
  14. '12 leverage by Cubs RP http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=rel&lg=all&qual=0&type=3&season=2012&month=0&season1=2012&ind=0&team=17&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=8,d leverage explanation: http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/misc/li/ Marmol entered the game in pretty similar-leverage situations to Camp & Russell last year edit: oh yeah, the guy who created LI works for us now
  15. i'd actually love it if he's kept as the nominal closer and Fujikawa gets most of the high-leverage duty in middle relief and he and Russell can bail him out if he's in full-meltdown mode
  16. it's a nice relief to not have 1/3 of the lineup be forfeit territory against LHPs Hairston, Sappelt, Castillo, Castro should feast on them; hopefully Rizzo can improve to semi-competent and HOLY [expletive] HOLY [expletive] DeJesus slugged .149 (!!) last year against lefties
  17. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_Major_League_Baseball_Draft it's a wonder they set a record for losses a few years later
  18. Castro's defense is giving me heart palpitations
  19. i don't really love Flacco, but i always found this unfair; he could have probably won last year if Lee Evans knew how to hold onto the ball, or if Billy Cundiff knew how to make a chip-shot FG
  20. an audible "[expletive]!" there from Rizzo as he bounces to 2nd
  21. i feel like Castro made that look a lot easier than it was
  22. what's the point in having a 6'3 1B if you don't make him stretch for routine plays?
  23. something like that I fixed it. Was just too excited to type. did you?
