  2. man, i love Jorge Soler at the next level
  3. i should have stated in this i'm overly confident Turner and Straily will be at least league-average the new inefficiency can be a staff full of #3s
  4. socks with sandals is a thing now, dweebs
  5. Arrieta, Turner, Hendricks, Straily, Wood midseason trade for TOR starter
  6. that all boils down to personal opinion, based on how much nuanced thought and reasoning you're willing to commit to the exercise; i'm not really interested in that argument at this time but i mostly assume somebody making the accusation that '12 was voluntary suckitude is doing so with the main intent of losing my respect for their opinions in general
  7. it's a tangential point now, but people earlier in this discussion (and in others) who are framing failures to compete in '12 as the FO's willful or purposeful tanking seem so hilariously divorced from the confines of reality the new FO inherited a 91-loss team, saw the payroll cut by $25M and the internal options at their disposal (Brett Jackson, Josh Vitters, Bryan LaHair, Steve Clevenger, Chris Rusin, [Marwin Gonzalez, Ryan Flaherty, DJ LeMahieu]) all went on to combine for minus-1.6 fWAR reasonable expections, to be sure "the team i'm giving you really sucks already, and i'm slashing your budget, and using the guys from the minors will only make you worse" "but i'd still like you to compete"
  8. And praying for no holes. yeah, good luck with that Chris Davis hit 53 HR last year, and he's sitting at replacement level right now Proven Veterans™ Matt Kemp, Jay Bruce, Allen Craig, Carlos Gonzalez, Prince Fielder, Billy Butler, Alfonso Soriano, Aaron Hill, Eric Hosmer, Carl Crawford, Carlos Beltran, Shin-soo Choo and like 100 other players with a track record, have all been pretty dismal this year...and this is to say nothing of the volatility of pitching looking only at prospects that have floundered and drawing broad conclusions is ignorant of the greater unpredictability in player performance and serves as confirmation bias for an ill-informed mindset
  9. "Minor league batting statistics will predict major league batting performance with essentially the same reliability as previous major league statistics." -Bill James
  10. they'll both show up but i already [expletive] hate the CBA that incentivizes this, if that answers your question
  11. it seems like they probably made a miscalculation, but in the end they still ended up with a monster IFA haul for it, even factoring in the lost class this year
  12. what a weird comment; if Coghlan gets termed a bright spot, there's been like 10-11 bright spots, even ignoring guys who've been dealt away

  14. i voted yes given payroll slashing, i simply don't believe it was it was ever a realistic proposition to contend in '12-'13, and sure, i'm slightly aggrieved that this year didn't pan out in terms of wins but when we've got young stars starting all over the field, the added single year of unnecessary plight will be rendered mostly a non-issue for me; and i fully expect this to happen sooner rather than later actually, make that a resounding yes
  15. Dilson Herrera immediately comes to mind
  16. i'm only seeing 3 (7/11, 7/19, 7/21)
  17. on that note, this HR tracker is pretty hysterical: http://i.imgur.com/TgYHqdM.png gray denotes an off-day
  18. i've always liked this guy's potential; i had him 10th vs. 17th rank in the midseason community rankings last year and i'm glad he's validated my faith so far
  19. Hendricks looks really good; how many balls have left the infield tonight for the Dodgers?
  20. Castillo always catches the ball a mile from the plate on these plays
  21. as far as i know, minor league contact rate numbers only go back a few years player pages at minorleaguecentral.com have the contact rates (under Pitches)
