  1. True. True. :D I think the Angels are a good match in that respect with Kendrick/Aybar(move from SS to 2B) and Mathis with some other players. Aybar is blocked by Wood anyway, if not Orlando Cabrera. Willingham might be pretty solid offensively, but his D is horrible, so they definitely need a decent game caller behind the dish like you said, with offensive potential.
  2. I think you're being a little too kind. Olsen projects as a potential number 1. Petit is overrated. His stuff is mediocre at best. Some scouts even question whether he can transition to the big leagues, much less be a front of the rotation starter. Sanchez is a nice prospect, but has a history of arm problems. If healthy, he's better than the likes of Papelbon (came from Boston's system). It's almost like dreaming of Guzman acheiving his #1 status, which he has/had the stuff for. Not likely to happen. That said, their pitching prospects are way better than ours, who are either injury magnets or unproven at higher levels (Pawelek).
  3. ??? Pitching is the one thing they picked up a TON of over the winter. They probably have more top pitching prospects than any other organization. Olsen Vargas Johnson Nolasco Petit Sanchez And there is more where that came from. How many of them project to be front of the rotation starters? Quantity isn't quality, although the Marlins have shown the ability to identify and develop good pitching throughout the years. If the Marlins don't move to a market more capably of supporting a higher payroll (i.e. keeping Willis and Cabrera), Willis is out the door and the Marlins are left with a bunch of back of the rotation guys in their rotation. Not good.
  4. =; If you mean "thrown out by the 3rd inning" = CG shutout, I agree.
  5. Kerry Wood won't be taking a pay cut as long as; a. Some other team will be willing to pay him more guaranteed. b. (more importantly) Scott Boras is his agent. Scott Boras is his agent? Not that I'm aware of. I thought the Hendricks brothers represented Kerry. Pat Rooney and Greg Landry are according to Cot's Baseball Contracts, FWIW. Sorry about that. I was given false information about Boras being Wood's agent. My "bad", then. there's little difference. they're all blood sucking vampires. If Wood wants to stay, then his representation will get it done. If he's lukewarm about the idea, his representation will get him a better contract on a different team. We'll see just how committed Wood is to staying in Chicago.
  6. Hank White post ASB 2005: .318/.379/.518/.897 And he's typically been much better offensively post-ASB.
  7. What does that mean? They can play many positions? Not one of those guys is a deep threat or has much of a bat at all. What are they going to do with 1 out and a man on third in a tie game in the eight inning? I don't know that it would change the outcome of many games, but I would like to see at least a few guys on the bench who have the possibility to take a guy deep. That is why I wanted Sing or Restovich in one of those slots. Our bench is strong defensively and has speed. And can't hit. The Cubs are supposed to have an improved bullpen. If that is ture (and I'm not saying it is), then it seems much more prudent to find at least one guy with deep threat capabilities. As it stand now they have exactly 0 guys who fit that description. I don't think this is worth arguing over, so I leave it at that. And can't hit? I'd like to see you prove that statistically, but since the argument isn't worth having, I won't hold my breath. Ever heard of Mabry?
  8. Boy, did that ever add a lot to the discussion. But, I'm sure everyone appreciates your input. It was about as insightful as the post he replied to.

That is why I wanted Sing or Restovich in one of those slots. Wait, our bench options aren't capable of hitting it reasonably deep to the OF? Darn near every ML player is capable of that. Our bench is strong defensively and has speed. I don't know if you've looked at the A's lately, but those are the bargain qualities available today - prime for sticking on your bench.
  10. Keep Mauer. Barrett is a great catcher...in NL only leagues. Otherwise he's just mid-pack offensively. Mauer is in line for a break out year. Last year (just so-so for him) was on par with Barrett's break out year. Barrett will improve, but not even close to as much as Mauer will. Also, having Jones in front of Mauer will hurt his RBI chances, as Jones's OBP is horrible.
  11. Yup. We're just not a good fit, besides the farm depth issue. Hendry might like Cabrera, but he doesn't have the players to get him.
  12. ok - so dubois is an AAAA player, but hollandsworth is good off the bench with a 2005 line of 254/301/388 for the cubs and 171/275/257 for the braves? yeah, that sounds REALLY solid, brah. how is saying someone isn't good off the bench and then using Holly's 2005 numbers (platoon) a valid statement? apples and oranges, brah. oh, and holly was with Atlanta for about a month. huge sample size.
  13. I'm skipping a job interview for this game. Win, farkers.
  14. Why would ppl here go ballistic? The prospect love here is a little much, but understandable. Dubois is a AAAA player. Holly is pretty solid off the bench. Didn't they just extend Sizemore? In light of that, any perceived mistake with Dubois is inconsequential.
  15. All 4 of those guys won't get Cabrera. I doubt Pie, Marshall, Pawelek, and Murton would do it.
  16. We're not going to get Cabrera. There are at least 15 other teams with farm systems deep enough to offer packages better than ours. The Marlins will never get equal value for Cabrera when dealing for prospects, but they're going to ask for a lot more than we can offer in terms of top tier talent. Hill is a fluke. Marshall isn't as ML ready as some of us like to think. Pie is raw, but very talented. Ryu is solid with a mediocre ceiling. Pawelek is a stud in the making and the only Cubs prospect I'd truly miss seeing.
  17. The whole team? And I didn't know Pavano's nickname was 8-ball. :-k Pavano must have taken the train to work.

  19. I agree. Wood's value is seriously undermined by his contract and injury history. Trading him would be dumb unless we somehow managed to get good/great prospects in return, which the Yankees don't possess (Hughes in an injury nightmare waiting to happen). If Wood pitches good this year, then the option will be picked up b/c the sizable buyout is already a sunk cost.
  20. hahaha, way to take the go ahead run off 3rd base.
  21. Pagan almost beat that throw out. If someone bobbles, he has a good chance of reaching. I like speed.
  22. why does his velocity fluxuate so much? it did that in SF and here. :?
  23. Bobby Abreu Then what are we waiting for? Thank god Hendry isn't stupid enough to trade a 25 year old Prior for a 30+ expensive Abreu. i agree. good to hear Prior is coming along ok.
