  1. guys who can catch the ball need to start.
  2. Furcal makes no sense for the Cards. i think he wants both M. Giles and B. Giles for the Cards, not Furcal.
  3. If the only competition for a middle infield spot is Cedeno, then Neifi WILL start. It baffles me that anyone could believe otherwise. Cedeno is going to have to be hot out of the gate. The only good news i see is that Cedeno is being mentioned as the "starter" whereas guys like Dubois were only deserving of a "shot" in Hendry's words.
  4. This is bad news. I wasn't high on Furcal before the Neifi signing, but the last $5M Hendry threw away has changed my mind. I hope Hendry has a backup plan for the MI that doesn't involve Neifi as a starter.
  5. well, in my defense, i called him a "moran!" so there. =P
  6. you don't get more "pop" in the lineup by taking up a corner OF spot with Damon.
  7. he's supposed to be playing 2B.
  8. What market? No one else had the chance to bid on Neifury. The same thing an arbitrator would use, Geech. When a player goes to arbitration, no one is bidding on him, are they? The market is what other SSs with comparable stats are getting paid. in that case Neifi should be getting 500k/year.
  9. I liked the color blue. It seems like a steep price to pay for liking the color blue at 3 years old. :D
  10. we let the offensive black hole start at 2B (in all likelihood) just so Ramirez can feel comfortable? he could ride the pine and make Aramis just as happy. :?
  11. Who cares. He should have thought about this a year ago. Walker's not the sharpest knife. Hendry knew about Walker's defense when he signed him. It's Hendry who isn't the "sharpest knife." What a moran!
  12. What are the odds Cedeno gets a fair shot at starting over Perez? Hendry certainly didn't force Dusty to play the youth after we were clearly out of the playoffs.
  13. yeah, gammons asked that after the article surfaced.
  14. Just wait, I bet the next big move has something to do with Macias. Nothing beats stockpiling the game's most useless players. What a thrill for the fans! I hear Mario Mendoza wants to make a comeback.
  15. C Barrett 1B Lee 2B Neifi 3B Ramirez SS Furcal LF Murton CF Patterson RF Preston Wilson Rotation: Prior Zambrano Burnett (with a colosal contract) Maddux Rusch *Wood is on the DL
  16. How is that line up worse than some of the line ups Baker threw out there last year? Macias and Perez were hitting 1/2 for several days in August and September. Dude, we were trying to win. Why don't you people get this?
  17. I would assume pierre bats leadoff and furcal second, as pierre usually has a higher OBP and less power than Furcal. at least neifi wouldn't bat any higher than 6th. :D i could live with that. getting pierre is worth it just for not having neifi in the 2 hole.
  18. Looking @ it from an optimistic perspective, it gives the Cubs the ability to use Jerome Williams, Rich Hill & Cedeno in a trade or trades, which can net a starting pitcher or OF. Why? We have Rusch! \:D/ But seriously, if we're not going to actually play what our farm system produces (those that are ready for the bigs), then we might as well trade them away for players Dusty will actually let get off the pine and play.
  19. yup. and you can be sure JH never would have inked Neifi to that contract if the serpent wasn't whispering in his ear.
  20. maybe you missed this...$5M / 2 years. that's not "backup" money.
  21. Ronny Cedeno should be the backup middle infielder. Yeah, and I think he should start, but that's not the point. I am trying to find out how much the Stros and Cards pay their backups. Here's two examples: Cards: John Mabry: $725,000 (in 2005) Stros: Vizcaino: 1.25 mill (in 05') Boy, this signing looks worse and worse, mainly b/c they gave the guy borderline-starter money. Again, its fine if he's a back up. I wonder if they over pay b/c they have the NL's biggest payroll and therefore they can? Walker was paid 2.5M to start. There's some "context" for you. :(
