  1. Dusty Baker would never bat Dunn 2nd, ever. Dunn would be 4th between Lee and Ramirez because of the almighty R/L/R. Thats one of my fears. Dunn taking away rbi chances from Aram is bad. Dun creating more run scoring chances for Lee and Aram is good. it doesn't matter who gets the RBI. what matters is maximizing the total runs scored by our lineup.
  2. isn't this where all the moneyballers jump in? who cares what the scouts say. I'm sure scouts don't like him because he's a .260 singles hitter. I'll look when I get home, but I'm willing to bet that Pierre never had OBPs of .390+, .370+, .370+ when he was in the minor leagues. one thing that generally never changes between levels of baseball is the ability of a hitter to tell the difference between a ball and strike. Bacon is a walk machine. wrong
  3. that baffles me. look at their attendance records and compare them to the cubs (and the cubs payroll). something doesn't add up.
  4. Imagine how many posters that would have to change their names? Well I wouldn't have to change my name, but the 22 is in reference to Prior. I'm sure I'm the minority here, but I think despite Prior's struggles, he is still better than Zambrano. IMO, Prior with all his struggles is slightly worse than Z. When he's healthy he is flat out filthy and another level above Z. I'm very optimistic about his 2006 season (Z's as well).
  5. We have Rusch. What more could you want? 8)
  6. When he's healthy this season and kicks some serious backside, i'm going to sit back and laugh...all the way to the playoffs.
  7. It's like evaluating a QB by W/L record and pass attempts. Like Brady? Wins by Brady mean nothing to this bunch. and those wins have nothing to do with the other 50+ men on the team? :?
  8. It's like evaluating a QB by W/L record and pass attempts.
  9. Very true. To measure a pitcher with a stat that he has at best 50% control of the outcome is ludicrous, ridiculous, and assinine. I don't care if people have been doing it for years, its still a foolish way to look at things. I think a refresher course in Baseball 101 is needed. 20 wins in a season, 250+ wins for a career are the standards by which starting pitching is measured. You can't dress up that pig to look like a winner. Open your mind. Think about what those stats mean and what goes into achieving them.
  10. I can't believe how much people are over valuing Felix Pie. The guy hasn't even played a year at AA and already he is the second coming. A majority of the posters on this board are clamoring for guys with high OBP, yet you want to pin all your hopes on an uber prospect whose plate discipline thus far is lacking. While Pie may end up being a great player, he is not there yet, and may never get there, while a player like Dunn is there and has been there for an extended period of time. Pie isn't an uber-prospect. He isn't even a blue chip prospect, but he's the best we have and part of his value is how much we value him (ie our unwillingness to part with him). His value is higher than his record warrants, i'll give you that.
  11. Lugo isn't a bad idea but I wonder what it would take to get him. I like Lugo too, but we need to fill at least one hole via FA. We don't have the prospects to fill all our holes with decent players via trade (unless we want a depleted farm system).
  12. thanks for the info! Pierre is the top priority over Furcal? That's new. Very interesting.
  13. You also have to consider that Pie can play CF very well, has a different role in the lineup and will cost a fraction of the price for the next 5 years. I agree with the general point, but I don't think it makes sense to look at it that simply. Morgan Ensberg put up a better OPS than Adam Dunn last year, but I don't think I would trade Pie for him. how many consistent .900 OPS guys are there? Dunn is also younger than Ensberg.
  14. the cubs aren't exactly a "winning team."
  15. Even without a long term deal, you have Dunn for two more seasons. isn't Dunn set to go through arbitration shortly? we could offer a multi-year extension above what he would receive in arbitration.
  16. Wins is a team stat, not an individual pitcher's stat. It's that simple. A win is a function of many things including those not influenced directly by the pitcher.
  17. Why would we get Kearns? Dusty and Hendry value left handed bats. We'd only have 2 switch hitters and no true lefties with Neifi and Furcal (assuming CPat is traded). I'm willing to be there is more interest in Dunn than Kearns (from Hendry at least) based solely on that. We got rid of Burnitz and we need a replacement for his lefty power.
  18. We need another left handed hitter in the lineup, especially if we're going to trade Walker and Patterson. Dusty is a big fan of alternating righties and lefties in the lineup.
  19. The Yankees are interested in TO for CF too. that dude can really catch the ball though!
  20. He better lock Pierre up long term without Pie waiting in the wings. BTW can Dunn play RF? I thought he was not defensively gifted? I've heard Dunn is defenisvely challenged and I agree that Hendry would lock up Pierre long term first. Maybe Murton would be one of the players used in the trade for Dunn? Dunn is a horrible defender, however he is a offensive monster. I doubt the Cubs obtain him, but I believe JH is leaving as many options open as possible as all GM's should. He's not that bad (about 4-5 errors/season). He has decent range for a monster, too.
