  1. What? We shouldn't have run him out of town politely. I don't think anyone is saying that. We just didn't need to destroy his value before we traded him.
  2. Rotoworld has Cedeno at .298/.346/.340 in 47 ABs. ah, your link does too. Good job, Ronny.
  3. his agent expects $9M / 3 years. Go Hendry! Lose that job. Yeehaww!!
  4. Well, this could explain the the Cubs' apparent lack of interest in Giles. :? Toronto, Seattle, Boston, Texas, Chicago, St. Louis, and the New York Mets? wow, there's a lot of cash in that bunch.
  5. according to ESPN Insider. he's received 5 year offers from 2 clubs, with two more expected to offer similar deals shortly. JP hasn't confirmed the offer yet.
  6. Wow. I knew the kid was good, but holy crap!! He really should not be wasting his talent in Pittsburgh. He should be on the north side of Chicago wasting it. I'd even trade Murton for him.
  7. =D> But it's ok to get into a bidding war for Furcal?
  8. ever heard of snow bunnies?
  9. Yes, NY, Hendry was helped along in those trades, but that doesn't change the fact that these guys helped us land our best offensive players. ...who both aren't even close to making the league minimum. we have a 100M team that plays far below its payroll b/c we have vets getting 2.5M/year for less production than a capable minor leaguer would give us, not to mention the value of having a home grown position player making the league minimum. i don't mind trading for Ramirez and Lee, but in the long run, we need to have one or two guys making the league minimum that aren't chilling in the bullpen. it frees up a lot of cash. having murton in LF instead of some 4-5M scrub is a big difference.
  10. Such as? And how many ABs did they get in Chicago? The Cubs haven't had any recent call ups that deserved a shot. At least Hendry and Hughes seem to be able to evaluate minor league talent. Too bad they can't evaluate the talent before they draft. if they're so good at evaluating talent, we'd have productive young position players in Wrigley more than once every blue moon.
  11. Such as? And how many ABs did they get in Chicago? The Cubs haven't had any recent call ups that deserved a shot. At least Hendry and Hughes seem to be able to evaluate minor league talent. Cedeno didn't deserve a shot? This is ridiculous. The reasoning goes, player X doesn't deserve a shot but he could start next year, but the vet will start in front of player X b/c he doesn't have the ABs to tell if he is a sure thing or not. Nice and circular.
  12. Cedeno is supposedly starting at 2B, where it will have more of an offensive backlash on the team if he tanks. This organization is absolutely [expletive]. Cedeno is going to start over Neifi? Please. If my choice is between Neifi and Cedeno, I'll take Cedeno. Even if he has a horrible year, that's 500+ ABs he can learn from. I can't imagine him being much worse than Neifi. Just pencil him as 8th in the lineup and shore up the OF. *I'm assuming Walker is going to be traded like all the beat reporters are indicating.
  13. Such as? And how many ABs did they get in Chicago?
  14. haha, one of those posters said Walker has "a good glove." LOL if that was true, he wouldn't be traded away. he'd have to have Mendoza-like numbers with Hendry as GM.
  15. I just can't believe that we're pursuing the most expensive option at a position we can conceivably fill cheaply (SS). That is just insane.
  16. Bruce Levine or Bruce Miles?
  17. Sounds good to me. Keep him far away from Wrigley, please.
  18. Why not let Ronny start at SS and spend the money on a difference maker? There's also guys like Lugo out there who is a small step down from Furcal, but much less expensive. I love how you don't even consider Furcal a difference maker. I'm sure there are some people in Atlanta that might disagree with you. It doesn't matter what some people in Atlanta think. What matters is how much he actually contributes per dollar. Atlanta is dealing with emotional fan attachment in addition to not having a viable leadoff option within sight. We should be making a cold hard business decision on Furcal, not bidding off the value of another club's emotions. 8-10M per year is ridiculous for the numbers he puts up. Paying a "difference maker" far more than he's worth negates the positives he brings to the table. He's no longer a difference maker above a certain price.
  19. That would be fine, but we're not even close to winning a WS. So many things have to go right for us to make the playoffs. We need a healthy pitching staff and a fixed OF, bullpen, and MI. We're not even close.
  20. Matsui's agent said he and his client were willing to extend the deadline for reaching a deal with the NYY. That doesn't sound like they want to leave to me.
  21. Is it really too much to keep Neifi from the top of the order and playing SS on a team we would like to play meaningful games at the end of the season? I'll let the Cubs worry about payroll... heck the Trib has the money. Hopefully, they are worrying about secondarily to winning. yeah, it's just money now, but when Z, Prior, and Lee are due the big bucks, we're going to look back on Furcal's contract with loathing.
