  1. After a discouraging first year in Florida, where he won't hestitate to leave once the offer was on the table! Question is, who would we have to send to FLA as compensation after this season... Neifi.
  2. IIRC, Delgado had no interest in playing for the Mets. Delgado showed no interest in wanting to be traded this year either. Should be interesting to see how this plays off. Could he cause some problems in that clubhouse? posted before I saw this. I wonder if he'll demand a trade next year, wouldn't surprise me. I know I'd be pi$$ed off if I signed a multiyear deal with a team just to get traded a year into it to a team without a clue that I had absolutely no interest in playing for in the first place. Mets could end up with a one year rental when it's all said and done. after trading away top prospects to get him. he's a steve phillips clone, that Omar Minaya.
  3. it's perfect. after realizing the value of young players with lots of first hand experience, Joe will replace Dusty as cubs manager somewhere in the not so distant future.
  4. and now they're paying more for him than they offered at the time. it's hilarioius. i'm sorry, but OM is a moran! a moran with a lot of cash, but still a moran. Or maybe Delgado wasn't that interested in playing in NY last year... that's even worse. now you have a player who doesn't want to be there.
  5. With a 1 million dollar base salary, I think any incentives in the contract would be insignificant in the larger picture of the budget. I would think even if there are incentives, the total package would probably only top out at 1.5 million. I don't think anyone cares about the extra 500k. They worry about giving Baker the appearence of a platoon partner for Murton. Murton can't be trusted. A veteran who played himself onto the bench can.
  6. Petit is going to be very good. Is the 1st baseman Brazille? Here me now and believe me later, the Las Vegas Gamblers are going to be very, very good. I think Petit's going to be one of those pitchers who have tremendous minor league numbers that becomes a 4th starter in the bigs. Control issues? Control pitcher. The stuff just isn't overwhelming according to any report I've ever read on him. his K/BB ratio and WHIP are ridiculous. his K/9 is great too. a simple "control pitcher" doesn't put up those numbers. there's more to it than velocity, although his fastball is reportedly fairly straight. hitters say it seems like he throws way over 90, when he rarely does. location doesn't do that. edit: i'm not saying he doesn't have great control, but his stuff is pretty good as well. i guess we'll see if he can take it to a higher level. a lot of scouts doubt that he can.
  7. i'm guessing milledge was not available, although i think he's highly overrated.

  9. that would be a good move. no cards hate here. mabry is decent.

  11. well, it looks like the Marlins have one of the best farm systems in baseball right now.
  12. It's hilarious that the Pierre deal supposedly stalled b/c the Marlins didn't know "what direction they were going in" ie if they were going to have a firesale or not. What's the delay? I'm not advocating getting Pierre, but I'd be interested to know what is keeping Hendry on the sidelines.
  13. Well, Hanley Ramirez was 2+ years away from the big leagues at that time.
  14. According to Rotoworld, the Mets offer was for $31M/3 with an option for a fourth year (rotoworld got it via the NY Times).
  15. Wells is the one leaving, not Clement. He's already asked to be traded to a west coast team.
  16. It's really upsetting that Hendry will give 3 years to Eyre at his asking price, but won't make a pre-emptive strike on Giles. who's more valuable? this isn't rocket science. if Giles wanted 4+ years, then i could understand the hesitation.
  17. fixed
  18. the funny thing is the yankees refusal to part with them. neither one of them is that great. it's kind of pathetic. i enjoy it.
  19. i bet howry saw eyre's contract and decided he wanted another few mil and a player option for a fourth year.
  20. Good. We will get to enjoy watching the Bears cram some more crow down their throats.
  21. Sweet. I always liked him as a baseball player. What was up with Mulder?
  22. Can you imagine the off the field distractions in Las Vegas? 8) Put them in the NL Central, please.
