  1. Who's happy with the Oguleye for Booker trade? :D
  2. Orton was on in the first half. he should have been well over 250 yards passing (probably over 300) with 2 TDs if certain receivers would stop dropping the ball. his accuracy beyond 20 yards is improving. I like Rex, but we're not desperate at QB. Orton is doing enough to win. This is a running team anyways.
  3. ain't no luck involved. \:D/
  4. Moose had better not whine about Orton any more.
  5. But at least they have a 600 foot tall arch that's just the toilet seat. i feel bad for all the female Cards fans. having a toilet seat permanently in the upright position can't be good for male/female relations in that city.
  6. You might be surprised. Rumor has it they plan to flip Blalock once the trade is completed. Wow. That used to be a good organization.
  7. I don't think Sheff would drop balls on purpose. He wants to win. On the other hand, I'd rather not have a disgruntled Sheff. In spite of Sheff's problems, they have never gotten in the way of winning. my bad. he didn't drop balls. he threw them away b/c he didn't like his team/city (Milwaukee). purposefully committing errors. yeah, that's a real winner. yes, sheffield's problems have gotten in the way of winning. he's always been a whiner and a complainer. he tanks plays on purpose. what about that man's actions suggest that he is anything different from the spoiled child with a monster paycheck he was in Milwaukee? For the record, here's the final record and standings of the last five teams Sheffield has played for: 05 Yankees: 95-67 (1st AL East) 04 Yankees: 101-61 (1st in AL East) 03 Braves: 101-61 (1st NL East) 02 Braves: 101-59 (1st in NL East) 01 Dodgers: 88-76 (3rd in NL West) There's 4 first place finishes out of five. Now, they either won because of him, with him, or inspite of him....but it definitely doesn't appear that having Sheffield affected his team mates or caused enough of a rumble to affect their ability to win. There's also three 100+ win teams in that group. That leads me to say, either: 1. Sheff isn't the malcontent he's made out to me. 2. It doesn't affect tram performance. You're reasoning from the whole to the part, which is not a logical argument. What I'm reasoning is that Sheffield hasn't kept his teams from winning. I'm not arguing that they became good because of Sheffield. Yes, all were good before he got there. But his antics, if there truly are in, didn't have much effect on his teams ability to win games. Are the Cubs a good team now? It's a different situation. Bringing in Sheffield to a good team that can cover for his temper tantrums with superior play isn't going to happen in Chicago. The data you gave can have any number of explanations. Maybe those teams Sheffield played for were so good that even Sheffield's tantrums couldn't make them lose. His attitude certainly isn't a plus.

  9. If they are having a firesale, that means they are trying to trim payroll and Beckett makes too much for their liking. They might want one of those players from the Cubs, but the Cubs aren't giving any of them up, and the Marlins can't afford to take any of them on. Going from Beckett and Lowell to Blalock saves them a lot of money. I understand that they're having a firesale. I was commenting on our possible trades with them. We don't have the cheap major leaguer they would want. Our prospects really aren't that great either. We don't have any blue chippers (Pie is as close as we come and he's a step down from the top). Look at what they're asking from Texas. Do we have anything comparable to offer? No.
  10. Beckett isn't going to be had for some minor league talent. We'd have to give up Ramirez, Lee, Prior, or Z to get him. Blalock and top pitching prospect for Burnett and Lowell (who has negative trade value). We're not going to get him with some combo of minor league pitching, Corey Patterson, and Todd Walker. I can't imagine Hendry trading away one of our studs for Beckett, who has injury concerns.

  12. It's not really a baseball park. It's just a large urinal.
  13. All he needs to do is man up, and pee on his hands.
  14. Why do people (not you, vance) keep bringing up sheff to Chicago? he threw a massive tantrum last year when there were just rumors of him being traded. i'd rather not have him dropping balls on purpose. he's a solid player, but the guy has a real attitude problem. i can see hendry getting Bradley way before sheffield. the former only has an attitude problem. the latter has that and a large salary.
  15. I'm still going to go. A few dollars isn't going to keep me from Wrigley. However, that won't keep me from being POed at management/Trib. Co. if they don't increase the payroll.
  16. I don't know if you can honestly be satisfied with "he'll figure something out." Just read this thread - that's what we thought last year with our LF situation. Quality GM or not, the Cubs and Cardinals both share quite the black hole in the outfield this offseason. I don't really understand why you're "working on pitching" either, I don't see any reason to dump Marquis, and finding a fifth starter shouldn't be so overwhelming it takes your eyes off the prize. I understand your post but Jocketty has proven time and again that he caan get it done. Remember the Cards are getting a big bat during the offseason - Scott Rolan. I would be upset if we had 30m to play with but we don't. The Cards can't have everything and I accept that. Hendry on the other hand... 1) Wastes money on players that don't make a difference. 2) Spends or will spend money on positions that have viable in house alternatives. 3) Doesn't seem to grasp how perfect of a fit Giles would be. However he might have something else up his sleave - we'll see. 4) Hasn't fired Dusty. Seriously, how many non-Cubs fans like Dusty and Hendry? I don't hear many people outside of Chicago and SF praising either of them. It seems like the objective opinion on both Dusty and Hendry is negative.
  17. Please elaborate how a mere Wilkerson or Bradley addition to this team would be that great of an improvement? I just don't see any difference with an outifeld of Patterson, Wilkerson/Bradley and Murton than we had last year. Also, with no Furcal, we'd be seeing an infield of Cedeno/Perez? Or Cedeno/Perez and Gonzo? I just dont like either one of those scenarios. I think for this team to contend, we need two offensive improvements in the OF, and an offensive improvement in the middle infield. Please elaborate and convince me otherwise :) I'm open to any alternate theories..... THANKS! I'd like Bradley/Wilkerson in CF. Neither is a great option in a corner OF spot. Personally, I want an OF of Murton, Bradley/Wilkerson, and Giles. With Furcal hopefully re-signing with Atlanta, we'll have a lot of free cash and a limited pool of players to spend it on. The pressure is on Hendry to get a big name. If Furcal and Pierre go by the wayside, which certainly looks plausible, I can see Giles in RF next year, even if Hendry is forced into overpaying. It's funny that the Cubs don't want to overpay on Giles, but they're willing to overpay for Furcal, Eyre, Rusch, and Neifi. Crazy. The only reason I'd applaud a Furcal signing is to help keep Neifi's ABs down. I don't see Hendry dealing Walker if we don't get Furcal. Walker/Cedeno works for me. It is likely that Neifi is going to get a fair number of ABs in that scenario under Dusty, but I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that is going to happen regardless. you don't pay someone 2.5M to sit on the bench all year. cedeno is going to have to play is butt off, which is certainly possible considering the league hasn't seen much of him. i'd love to have a middle infield of castillo/cedeno or giles/cedeno. Hendry has always been high on Cedeno's glove. It's the offense that has been lacking up until last year. Neifi doesn't really offer more than Cedeno (probably much less production offensively!), so I don't see Hendry advocating Neifi playing over Cedeno. Of course Dusty makes up the lineup card. :( A Cedeno/Perez MI is a nightmare with an average/below average OF. I can't believe that Hendry just goes with a Murton/Patterson/Mench in that scenario. He has too much money to spend. With a stud OF, I can live with an offensively iffy MI (Cedeno/Neifi).
  18. Burnett might be worth 10-12M per year, but 5 years? ouch.
  19. I don't want Pierre or Furcal. Hopefully Furcal decides on Atlanta quickly and Hendry has to trade to fill the holes on this team. With Pierre off the table, maybe he'd go for someone like Bradley or Wilkerson. I read a quote today about how Karros had clubhouse issues before coming to Chicago and Hendry said he was a great clubhouse guy. Maybe he is more willing to take a chance on a guy like Bradley than I thought.
  20. Morris and Lowe aren't too likely to improve much at this point in their careers. Williams is going to improve.
  21. My sister is in St. Louis (SLU) Can't we just concentrate on the Cardinal's stadium, players, and maybe fans? Actually now that I think of it, go ahead and nuke the whole city, just make sure its over the Thanksgiving holiday. That way you get lots of people from out of town in the blast? :? Tell me you don't work at the pentagon. Sorry, I'm just trying to protect my sister. . . . :( I was just playin'. :D
  22. I don't have anything against Morris b/c he's a cardinal or a "whiner" as some have called him. I just don't want him based on his pitching performance the last 2 years. I'd rather take a chance on Jerome Williams in the rotation than a chance on Morris.
