  1. two words for you: Scott Kazmir Any GM that can get absolutely fleeced like that doesn't deserve the job. Hendry is a moran, but I'd still rather have him than Phillips (i'm sure you were just kidding about that :D ). I may be wrong but i dont think that Phillips was the one who traded Kazmir, wasnt it his replacement? true. it was Phillips' assitant that did that after Phillips was canned. maybe i should have said "phillip's regime." he's still a moran though.
  2. No, Dusty would probably hit Neifi fifth. Dude, did you see that slam he hit in St. Louis? Dude's got power!
  3. Dusty got away with Neifi and Macias batting before DLee last season.
  4. Anyone with a brain and a pulse beats Joe Morgan, so surely he couldn't be the worst commentator on ESPN.
  5. two words for you: Scott Kazmir Any GM that can get absolutely fleeced like that doesn't deserve the job. Hendry is a moran, but I'd still rather have him than Phillips (i'm sure you were just kidding about that :D ). edit: upon further review from the booth, i am wrong. but phillips is still an idiot (dotel, robbie alomar, burnitz, mo vaughn).
  6. We're going to have a tough time acquiring a stud OF bat if Pie, Murton, and Hill are off limits (although hearing that about Murton makes me happy). Hendry has too many holes to fill. Time to play little Dutch boy.
  7. I love the cubs. Get a leadoff hitter and we make the playoffs. Excellent reasoning.
  8. it's just timely hitting. stats don't show that. (i'm being sarcastic)
  9. go ahead and add in HBP as a single. considering the numbers involved, it has minimal effect on WHIP. you don't use WHIP in evaluating single games. that's stupid. you use it to evaluate a large number of innings (large sample size). WHIP isn't supposed to distinguish between a single and a HR. That's not its purpose. There isn't one all encompassing stat like you try to make wins/WHIP. did you even bother to look up the pitchers on the WHIP list. those guys dominated. b/c you've never heard of them means something?
  10. Kinzer, what a dink. I think I like Boras more.
  11. Both the agent and the mariners denied that report and said they aren't close to anything.
  12. That was a really long time ago. I'm sure a nice steak dinner would solve any lingering issues. i'm sure Wood would feel bad about it if he was on the same team as Lugo.
  13. i don't think Hendry is willing to deplete (to a certain extent) the farm system by totally turning away from free agency. we'll get 1 or 2 bad contracts from free agency, don't you worry. :)
  14. I didn't hear that one, but I'm sure you could post a link that I could do so. I did find proof to the contrary from TSN: Not only did he change his mechanics, but his approach. I'll be looking for that ESPN proof. where does it mention changing mechanics? 98% of what is there is about the changes in the pitches themselves and his approach, not mechanics. the only thing is see as being possibly interpreted as "changing mechanics" was the first line of the last paragraph with the phrase 'downhill fastball angle.' adding a new pitch or changing up pitch selection doesn't have much to do with changing mechanics. pitchers are constantly adjusting their mechanics anyways, including slighty tweaks in arm angles. that is not the massive change of mechanics you implied earlier. wood has changed his delivery just like every other major league pitcher has, with slight alterations. the changes are so slight you're never going to notice them. i bet rothschild has to sit down and go frame by frame with video to tell the difference.
  15. and having a farm system devoid of position players leads you to...free agency where bad contracts are plentiful. and if you do have good position players, you rush them to the bigs so you don't seem incompetent (Patterson).
  16. If I was Nomar, I'd tell Hendry and the Cubs to go jump into Lake Michigan. how many millions did Nomar take off us? i forgot.
  17. IMO, offense is far more important than defense. Walker isn't even close to being a butcher in the field.
  18. he can't play defense or steal bases. What's with the eyeroll? You're going to sit there and tell me that Furcal is worth 4x what Walker makes? Not twice the player or 3 times the player, but 4x the player. Furcal had 27 errors in 2002, 31 in 2003 and 24 in 2004. One season at 15 (ahem, contract season), and all of a sudden he's a defensive wiz. I love it. Furcal averaged 20 something steals until 2004 (his contract year). Then he magically steals nearly twice as many. You know for a fact he won't go right back to his lazy 20 something steals and 20 something errors once he signs his name on that big fat contract? Edgar Renteria and Orlando Cabrera sure are earning their money these days, aren't they? My apologies if I misunderstood your eyeroll post. my eyeroll was at the statement i posted. i was mocking those that love furcal for his speed and defense (things walker lacks). :D i agree with you about Furcal. he is severely overrated defensively and offensively, IMO.
  19. he can't play defense or steal bases.
  20. Pfff. Where is he going to get that money? 36M/4 is beyond Atlanta's range and the other suitors in that article (mentioned by the agent) are longshots other than the cubs. If Hendry gives Furcal 50M/5, he is indeed...well, see avatar.
  21. Supposedly Hendry has a serious jones for Pierre and he's the number 1 priority. Hendry is the man. I haven't seen anything that said that Pierre is Hendry's top priority - everything I've read says that Furcal is. Furcal is the top FA priority. Pierre is the Hendry's top priority (according to Bruce Levine). here's where i heard the pierre "priority" stuff:
