  1. Wow, Hendry's priorities really don't fit this market. Maybe he should consider that next time he comes up with a wish list.
  2. Hendry overvalues speed and defense.
  3. What makes you think that if the Cubs got Lugo Cedeno would start at 2nd? He and Neifi would be first in line, but that wasn't really part of the point I was making. Cedeno not starting because better players are in front of him = good. Cedeno not starting because the abomination formerly known as Neifi is in front of him = bad. I agree, but getting Lugo just moves Neifi to starting 2B (once walker is gone). Cedeno still doesn't start b/c an inferior player is in front of him. Neifi pwns rooks.
  4. Why and why? Dusty and Kerry. OK, if this is just the way it is, here is my shopping list: Lugo Pierre Abreu Burnett or Milwood How's this for a lineup?: Pierre Lugo Abreu Lee Ramirez Murton Barrett Cedeno (2B - Just say no to Neifi!) Prior Z Woody Burnett / Milwood Maddux =P~ The only thing that makes that lineup decent is Abreu. Pierre is a joke. If hendry overvalues speed to the extent that he thinks it makes up for his no-out-of-the-infield-hitting, noodle armed, poor range garbage, then he's on drugs.
  5. I don't believe it. [-(
  6. Why would Beane dish Zito this early? He's in a position of extreme advantage right now in that he doesn't have to deal Zito and there are tons of teams looking for starting pitching. If this is true, Hendry just got fleeced.
  7. Burnett throws harder? Farnsworth throws harder than Wood. Burnett is more of a groundball pitcher? That doesn't have anything to do with quality of stuff. It's a pitching repertoire that tend to get those results. Wood isn't a groundball pitcher. I suppose Prior's stuff isn't so hot b/c he isn't an extreme groundball pitcher. Lowe's a groundball pitcher and his stuff isn't great. Burnett has a plus changeup? Where'd you hear that? I'd call it average, maybe even slightly above average. I'd say Burnett throws the two-seamer slightly better, but Wood's slider is much better than Burnett's. Both have solid curveballs and plus four-seamers.
  8. Those 4 wins a year against the Cubs will probably help. Only 4? Oh, that's right. He'll get paired up against Zambrano once and they'll both get no-decisions as the Cards win 1-0 in the 10th. no way. that's when Neifi rocks the slam in extra innings for a Cubs 4-0 victory.
  9. New stadium. We just made millions auctioning off things from the old park. A bunch of extra revenue just came in... In reality, I don't think this really cripples us at all. The contract is backloaded. We'll be trading Marquis... When you factor out the $5 million or so Marquis would cost us, Burnett might only be making like $4-5 million this year. Heck, even less? I really think that, provided the right guy was out there, DeWitt would give us a little extra money to play around with. Jocketty and LaRussa convinced him Burnett was that caliber player. And then, by the time the backloadedness (@_@) of the contract picks up, Edmonds will be off the books, and he'll likely be replaced by a Colby Rasmus, if all goes well. It's going to work out pretty well, I think. Burnett's risky as he gets further into the contract (injury concerns). Backloading it just makes it worse, but hey, good luck.
  10. When I read stuff like that from a semi-official source I skip stunned and go straight to homicidal.
  11. Where does Hendry throw away all that money if he gets Wilkerson and Bradley? You know he has to spend it or people will riot. Extensions for Lee, Prior, and Zambrano. Use the extra money to pay them more now so they'll accept a little less down the road. Sounds good to me, but I hope Hendry doesn't go crazy on Lee's extension.
  12. there's an age restriction for Little League.

  14. lmao, this is what Rotoworld had to say about the Burnett pursuit:
  15. Forget Orton. If it wasn't for the best D in the NFL, he would have been tarred and feathered by now.
  16. but he would have $10 million more guaranteed with the Cubs offer. When he becomes the next Alex Gonzalez at Chavez, he won't get those last two years worth of money. Yes, the difference is 10M. Do you think that when Furcal hits the FA market again (assuming he doesn't re-up with the Dodgers) that he won't command at least 10.5M/2 years? he's going to have no problem making 50M over 5 years after taking 39.5M/3 from the Dodgers. Maybe maybe not. how do you know he won't get hurt? We didn't sign AGonz did we? I thought we just inherited that contract in the trade. If he has one leg amputated, one of these crazy, out of control GMs will still offer him $8 million per year. I hear they're handing out free money in LA.
  17. Easy on the hyperbole M&P. I don't want Burnett either, but he's still produced well. Sorry. I just don't want another Kerry Wood contract, paying someone 10M+ for a season of nothing. If he gets a 5 year deal, that's fairly likely considering that he's had 2 TJS. Hendry loves to take risks, but if you take enough of them, you get burned. I'd rather not take a high price / medium reward risk. it's fine to take a flier on guys like Dempster and Williamson, where the worst case scenario doesn't hamper us for 50M+/5.

I really doubt Furcal develops serious injury concerns over the next 3 seasons. Is it a risk? Of course, but it's a small one for a lot of money.
  19. Hendry needs a beating if he starts after Burnett...preferably a severe one.
  20. believe it or not, lots of people think neifi is good. just read the lemmings' comments on cubs.com for further proof that those people exist en masse.
  21. good. take soriano away from hendry. someone snatch up gathright and pierre while they're at it.
  22. Worst Case Scenario: Hendry goes into the season with Cedeno at SS and Neifi at 2b. Cedeno struggles out of the gate so Dusty decides to move Neifi over to SS and start Macias everyday at 2b. With Dusty this is very possible. I won't stand for either of the two being starters. What would you do burn down Wrigley or something of that nature?? i'm just going to cry. ...little machine gun sobs. uhuhuhuhuhuhuh.
  23. they drop less balls than the offense.
