  1. I think the Yanks panicked after eyre and howry left the market. ryan wanted to close, so they had to over-overpay. No way Farns is worth that contract. Best of luck to him though.
  2. It's going to be a good prospect in that scenario.
  3. are we going to have to wait until after the rule 5 draft to get our PTBNL? i can't remember the rosters are "frozen" or not. :? maybe i'm just imagining things again.
  4. They're going to be a great team for the next 2-3 years regardless of signing Burnett. I hate to say it, but we're looking at the WC before the season even starts. Burnett and Rolen are going to be nice salary drains after that 3 year window, which will make me happy.
  5. He's laid low when the competition had similar needs before and it burned us though. Think back to when they traded for Scott Rolen...We could have had him for Bobby Hill and a couple of others. Had we gotten Rolen, St Louis would have been left with nothing, and I doubt they would have made a move on Aramis with the baggage he had while he was still in our AAAA club. I'm happy with Aramis and his contract. Rolen and his contract is scary. His health is a major issue too, not that Ramirez is a picture of health. Rolen actually hurt the Cards this year and they still dominated. The only guy they couldn't lose for a full season and dominate is Pujols.
  6. who were the rumored three? Pinto... they certainly weren't crappy pitchers. three decent arms for a rental who is going to make decent money next season?
  7. Come on, man....I'm eating here. Apparently you eat many meals.
  8. It depends on the contract. Think Renteria and Cabrera. :-&
  9. patterson for bradley is muuuch better. that's the hendry trade rape/burn/pillage that i love. forget free agency, Jimbo.
  10. good buddy working for the cards? consorting with the enemy are we? just kidding.
  11. They'll move kent to first, and Walker will play second. As for Konerko, I don't think the Dodgers would be interested. why are they interested in moving Kent to first?
  12. I still haven't given up hope that we could get Castillo from the Marlins fire-sale. That would be an amazing IF. Castillo = =P~ His injury concerns worry me. His OBP and D are sexy though.
  13. This is the one move that would make overpaying Furcal (50M/5) reasonable to me if we have an impact bat in RF.
  14. You're welcome :D Meat & England, I'm curious why you two think the interest in Bradley means Hendry is confident about Furcal. Is it more related to trading Walker? Yeah, I think Walker's departure implies a Furcal signing. I just can't see Hendry going with a Cedeno/Neifi infield. Walker was rumored to be gone only if Furcal was signed. After the Hendry/Furcal lunch on Sunday, it seems Hendry would have a good idea where Furcal is going. This info from ESPN 1000 could also have been from before the Furcal/Hendry dinner, in which case it was just Hendry keeping his options open.
  15. A 79 win season last year leads me to believe Jim doesn't always get it done. I will worry about this team until he does something to drastically improve it. I agree. I was just saying that Hendry is good when it comes to the trade front and horrible in the FA market. Those aren't the only two parts of putting together a winning team. I just wish Hendry would play to his strengths.
  16. It seems like a lot to give up for Bradley, but I won't complain too much. This could mean Hendry thinks Furcal is Chicago bound. Thanks for the info, Blue.
  17. I rip on Hendry for his FA actions, but he gets it done in the trade department. No worries.
  18. You're telling me that if we had a lineup of Lee/Walker/Neifi/Ramirez/Barrett/Murton/Bradley/Abreu, we are in trouble?
  19. He also mentioned that the first team to add the 5th year probably gets him. I say do it, he is still young. I disagree. Furcal is a 2nd tier SS and I'd rather not have him much longer once Hendry and Dusty are sent packing. I could deal with 4/38M, but that's probably not an offer he accepts. Would you list the "top tier" SS in the NL then please! Also, list there availablity via free agency or trade! Thanks! Who's better in the NL? Bill Hall and Felipe Lopez. Does it matter who's available this year? This isn't checkers, it's chess. We can solve the OF issue this year via trade and then afford to have some combo of Neifi/Walker/Cedeno in the middle infield. SS offensive production per dollar is very low compared to other positions, especially the OF. There are plenty of viable and productive options available in the OF, where the dollar goes further. Let's spend money there where it makes the most sense. If a stud SS comes along in the future, assuming Cedeno doesn't pan out for us, we can upgrade. And I will stop right here. Unbelievable that you would say Bill Hall is a better SS than Furcal. Wow, I didn't know what I was dealing with when I asked you a simple question! Why are you avoiding the second and third paragraphs? I hate when people dismiss an argument just b/c they don't agree with some side issue that isn't even relevant to the argument in the first place. I highlighted the argument for you.

What if not getting Furcal meant that Neifi or Agonz II would start at SS, would you still feel the same? If Furcal comes here, Walker is gone. Neifi will be starting anyways. I don't see Cedeno playing 2B in Venezuela like Hendry and Co. said. I'm not willing to throw away 50M/5 (potentially) on a guy just to have ok OBP batting leadoff instead of the horror we had last season. If we don't get Furcal, we're going to go buck wild in the trade scene, which is what I would have liked to see Hendry do in the first place. His best moves have come via trade. He gets taken in free agency. Neifi is gone after 2 seasons anyways. I'll take 2 crappy years rather than getting locked into Furcal at top dollar for 5.
